Watched a very tense Final overtime. Blood was spilled.
To my knowledge, it's the 1st World Cup of a re-unified Germany. (Edit - Thanks to Shadow Zero, I realised their last World Cup win was in 1990, when West Germany and East Germany were 2 teams. That felt like...a lifetime ago, when David Hasslehoff was a pop star.)
The coach Joachim Low deserves a lot of credit for this one.
The Netherlands nor Japan ( ok I know the second one wont ever win it :P ) didnt win the world cup so Nepht is not happy....but yeah Germany played a good clean game agaisnt a team that was a little bit brutal.
Feel sorry for Messi though missing that kick like that, thats the sort of kick he is always on traget with :<
Dont mention football I can go on for hours /o/
Nepht and Dr Deflecto on primus
They all thought I was out of the game....But I'm holding all the lockboxes now..
I'll......FOAM FINGER YOUR BACK!

I hear ya. The commentators were like, "the best scorer, against the best goalie, at the most critical moment." Then it went over! It's like Messi thought for a second he was playing American Football, going for a Field Goal.
I think Messi was just exhausted at that point, and it was then I realised Low's strategy, I think.
Germany didn't play great at 1st IMHO, especially compared to their very aggressive game vs. Brazil. They started getting really serious later on and then shone in overtime. Now, I think it's deliberate, Low's planning.
He knew Argentina was going to be passionate, gung-ho...and burn themselves out early on.
So I think Der Plan was for the Germany team to prepare for a marathon, not a sprint, draw it out, cover Messi like mad, and let Argentina tire themselves out. And he made a really good substitution at the right moment.
What was interesting was Low's overall strategy with his relatively fresh team. There was a lot of criticism about how he didn't take the big stars. However, that meant he had no obvious targets for defenders.
Like Messi. Superstar...so he had like 3 defenders on him, it stopped the whole offensive.
I really admire how Low turned what was supposed to be a weakness into his strength.
I did feel a bit bad when the Netherlands gubbed Brazil 3-0 right after their MASSIVE gubbing to Germany. But then I seen a Brazilian take a baseball bat to an edam on the news laters and I thought what a waste of good cheese :V
Though this World Cup did give us a good meme
I personaly think the biggest achivement in this world cup was the leaps and bounds the USA team made . I think the USA team itself was shocked at how much of a decent showing they had.

Netherlands played some great games. I was sure the finals would be Netherlands and Germany.
Messi had a couple shots he totally biffed. He did play a good aggressive game though, really did put me at the edge of my seat every time he had possession.

I wouldn't call Argentina's game passionate and gung-ho. They played heavy defense (which makes for boring games in my opinion) and relied on a breakaway or two for a miracle shot on goal. Germany played strong the whole time, had better possession and shots on goal, and holy madness if that winning goal wasn't the most beautifully executed I'd seen in the entire World Cup.
I became an instant fan of the German team when I saw how precise and coordinated they were. They play an excellent game, highlighted against the Brazil match. Not just because it was such a slaughter, but each goal they scored was a great excercise in teamwork, no one trying to be the hero.

Outstanding. I'm going to talk MORE about football.

Schweinsteiger went on like a masochistic Energizer Bunny.
Must really suck to be Messi right now, especially given his reputation.
Head bloody but unbowed. I thought at the time he was going to leave the pitch. Also, no red card, surprised.

Duh. That ref was playing for Argentina. Some seriously BS calls in that game. Almost as bad as Brazil-Costa Rica.
My super cool CC build and how to use it.
Oh come on...you must have had a little klu.
Evil Racist Organisation puns ftw!
