A new quest idea: A run against a threat that has as a reward the ability to learn a new power. Only available to level 40 toons, only winnable once per week, and requires in game currency (UNTIL tokens, or something equivalent) to run once. Threats could rotate weekly, would give people more incentive to run UNTIL missions than some cut-rate gear or costume options.
Is this 1 or 100 Power per character?
Because after getting the Power, the reward has been achieved and no point of doing anymore.
You get 100 new Powers, well that can only lead to the Dark Side...

Point taken. Could be the first time you do it, it allows you to spend Unity currency to buy new powers (plural) on a scaling level- each one you buy causes the next to cost cumulatively more. Maybe 75 unity for a new power, 25 for an additional advantage point, maybe other perks as well, like a 1% increase in health or a boost to a super stat. Running it additional times lets you gain maybe 5 or 10 unity currency, sort of an augment to the daily unity missions.

Change it to Silver Champions recognition and I would be 100% behind this
I think it should be limited to one or 2 new powers per character simply to keep it from being too OP, but additional runs after gain Silver Champs rec, and a decent amount of resources.
Mmm, the open endedness was kind of the point to it- It'd take a long time to rack up more than three or four powers, but being technically open ended would mean there's no literal limit to a heroes strength, but a fairly decent practical one.
Okay. Given it a lot of thought, reading what people are adding, and I can see where everyone is coming from here. But players who've been playing a long time, in my opinion, deserve an incentive of some sort to KEEP playing.
I'm not talking about a huge buff each time. (And silver champ recognition was what I was talking about before). I have a lot of level 40 champs, and with no effective way to advance them or diversify them I find myself tiring of them, they become a picture on champ select I hardly touch, while I experiment with another power set. This would give me a reason to keep playing them. Spending a week or two to get a new power or another advantage point or another specialization point wouldn't be so bad, and within a year the dedicated players would be able to brag of the titan on their roster who's battled everyone and everything the game had to offer, and stood head and shoulders above.
One option would be, once a character had racked up a certain number of upgrades in this vein, to be able to, maybe once or twice per day, queue for a 5 player alert or something solo. This wouldn't be hard to code for, limiting it to once or twice per day would mean the instance servers wouldn't be too strained, and it'd add a new dimension to the fighting if, instead of patiently attacking in small groups, fighting would attract the notice of other enemies in the bank/museum/harmon labs/wherever. You know, like it would if it was a real life circumstance. That could just be simulated by having a minion run for reinforcements after a set amount of time, or maybe an expanding aggro radius after the fighting started.

From a business POV, players who have been paying a long time deserve an incentive to keep doing so.
So no, it'd be an absolutely horrible idea to introduce yet another reward that ultimately, LTS benefit most from irrespective of whether they spend anything anymore, at least until Cryptic/PWI have figured out a way to signal they didn't actually mean to crap all over long-term subscribers who can't afford a big one-off payment.
That aside, it's a horrible idea because it'd kick what small semblance of game balance still exists to the curb. Introduce something like that and i a year, there's no bloody point in partaking in any events anymore because they either
a) have some uberspuermeghagigahyperhero roflstomp the end boss in 30 seconds flat
or
b) have souped event bosses up to a point were everyone else fighting them dies in 30 seconds flat
And please don't tell me you actually believe Cryptic of all people could/would come up with a good implementation instead....
