Vehicle coloring

Will developers ban me if I try to change my vehicle's color using codes?Because I don't like these colors at all!I watched a video on YouTube where one guy changes color on his vehicle...

It would be cool if they added vehicle slots like aura slots with little tabs to change the colors.

I am not sure about that...Fire Ant,for example, has red and gray color...Don't forget that auras don't have 2 colors, but 1.After all,it doesn't have to be like an aura.I mean, you just go to the Tailor and select "Vehicle"?It could be great.But...

It's possible to load up a vehicle as a costume part in the editor with console commands, but that's not how they're used in the game. Last I heard from a developer, it's most likely not going to happen.

So if I somehow load it,it won't be something like hacking?I won't be banned?

I don'tknow about this. Messing with game files is like hacking. If you're scared of the consequences, then don't do it.

OP, the vehicles are NOT meant to be colour changed.
Generally, fiddling with the files or using 3rd party programs or scripts is NOT allowed under the TOS.

It's actually perfectly okay to mod your game.. In fact, there's a folder in the files made just so players can mod their games. As long as you're the only one to see it there's no problem.

So far as I know, this is true. If you can do it, make sure no one else can see it. If you're seen riding around in a custom-colored vehicle, people will report you, and you very, very likely will be banned.

(However, if you do figure out how to do it so that other people can see it, I suggest you share with the developers.)

I figure color changing is kinda a lost cause, after all there the color is probably the main reason people would buy more than one of the same "class" of vehicle ( tanks, jets, bikes etc.)

But I kinda wish they would make more colors available to buy. If they would for example make each base model in the 8 standard crayola crayon colors ( red, yellow, green, blue, brown, black, orange and purple ) and also white they'd probably sell more since a common complaint I hear from people is that none of the current one's match their toon well, I for one would love a Purple or Green hover tank to replace my main toon Neko-13's current blue one.

Thanks doc. And I have to agree. It definitely would be nice if they provided more color options.

Yeah especially now that they're making the stats of vehicles more standardized, particularly once you upgrade them so it seems like it's be simple to like take the Tiger Shark, pallet swap it to orange and rename it the Clown Fish or something.

Now I'm no dev of course, so maybe there's more to it than copy/pasting and clicking a couple colors, but it seems like something that they could like stick on intern on for an afternoon or two and make some quick cash from the C-Store sales, well assuming they have interns of course

Being able to color ones vehicles should have been an option from the start, the fact we are now on "Vehicles 2.0" and we still cannot change the vehicles colors is insulting!

I'd normally complain about vehicles not being colorable as they should be, but there is a second side to this coin.

We know that on some vehicles colors could be changed in tailor. That's true.

But we do not know if there is a way of storing this information in character record, as it is done with character costumes. Nor if it is a technical possibility to add one.

While starships in STO are customisable, they aren't separate devices. They are player characters. It's more like players have different set of builds for space maps, so ship costumes are just map-restricted character costumes.

To me, it looks more like colorisation on bikes is a leftover from their early stage of development, tested then discontinued for whatever technical reasons.
It is an assumption, but it may be supported with the way how vehicle textures are done. Bikes have color channels enabled, while tanks have "baked" textures without it.
So, at least some vehicles were made without even considering colouring them as an option.

We could use more skin options. Like, if you have few heavy tanks with the same basic model, you can change between their models using NPC. Taking your Avalanche and exchanging it for the same device, but with, let's say, Flint Fire skin (if you have both models in your inventory).

Or in the same way changing it for a one of the few available generic skins for said models. Green, Red, Blue, Black, etc...

But then... It would only take more development for more vehicle skins. Even if they are easier to made than character costumes, they still need time to develop.

Either way someone will be unhappy. Players wanting their vehicles colored, or players wanting more attention to the other parts of the game.

    I made that video.

The color can't be stored on a player, or else you will always have a grav bike hanging off your body.

The device is a become that straps costume code on you that is baked in the device. In no way did I demonstrate that stand alone vehicle customization via tailor exists; only that the door is open for it with nothing programmed in yet.

    This!

I still find it insulting that there was a Whole Exlusive Update-Upgrade-Nerfade for Vehicles and still NO option to Customize the appearence and color of those darn things
