That odd beginning, with everyone carrying objects and heading over to the Westside was prearranged because it was one of the things AoC loved to do. Apparently he loved coming into the RenCen with a heavy object and like a pied piper he would then gather many other heroes by proding them to pick up any object and follow him down to the Westside for a impromptu "Westside - Take out the Trash Day."
So after that beginning of the Memorial and the reliving that memory, everyone seemed to just gather up and go on a Cosmic hunt. It seemed pretty cathartic at the time.
I didn't know AoC. I don't mean not just as a friend. I doubt I even saw his characters in CO. But I know how the loss feels.
I used to play on a Neverwinter Nights server that was run like a small MMO (heh, very small considering max people logged in could only be like 40). It was a good community of friends, gathered either in the game, on IRC, or posting on the forums. There was one player/DM that we all joked was our "D&D Supercomputer" on account of his being able to recite just about any rule for the game. He wasn't a "rules lawyer" though, it's just that he cared a lot for the game and fairness and just had a damn good memory for the various rules. He came up with some great plots as a DM, had some memorable PCs, and was a great guy OOC too.
He passed away quite suddenly and unexpectedly. One of the other players was close friends with him and broke the news to the rest of us. It was the first time our NWN community lost a member.
It's odd in a way. I never met the guy in real life. Most of us never met him. Few of us even knew his real name or vice versa. Yet we could all feel a loss, a void where he was. A lot of us gathered on IRC to mourn his passing and share stories about times with him. Never was it more obvious how much of a community we were.
We had additional players pass away over the years, from various causes. Each time we came together as a community to mourn and heal.
A friend online is no less a friend. May the memories of those we lost keep alive in our hearts.
My friends dad is battling cancer, i dont think he has much time left, my other friend reckons he has like 2 more weeks or so..
My cat also had to be put down cause of cancer 2 years ago, i still think about it all the time. Her son my other cat also had cancer on one of his front legs, we had to amputate it so now he has 3 legs but looks like we got it early so he is fine now

I'm still sad I couldn't make it the big in-game memorial. I'm actually in one of the videos, I just had no idea it was going on...

So, here is the thread from last year of how we all dealt with AngelofCaines illness, and then, finally, his death.

And here is the video made on the night of his Memorial organized by and participated by so many of COs heroes.
