From what I've heard of Cryptic and NCSoft parting ways with the latter seizing control of CoH, the existence of a "reversion clause" seems incredibly doubtful. In fact, that was partly the reason of Cryptic buying the Champions IP, so it couldn't be taken from them. Big help that proved to be, they barely touch it now.
Actually, Cryptic sold out CoH to NCSoft because they were working with Microsoft and Marvel on a Marvel online game. The engine, etc was in the works when MS and Marvel couldn't get along. Cryptic carpped their pants because they had no income since they just sold their property to NCSoft.
They grabbed up the Champions IP (because it's really not a known name at the time outside the P&P circles) and plugged it into their engine.
Interesting revisionist history there, hate. It cruises just close enough to the known facts to seem plausible, without actually matching them in any particular. (For starters, Tumer told us why the files for CO are called "Fight Club" - they started working on the game on the sly, knowing that NCSoft was about to can them and create their own in-house development studio. The folks working on it, obviously, couldn't mention the new game anywhere the NCSoft execs could hear about it. And we all know the first rule of Fight Club...)
