Nifty combos!

Hey guys. Kane speaking.

My intent is to make people more aware of nifty combos made possible in CO. I do a lot of Min/max PvP so I can understand how only a handful of powers get chosen. Some combinations of powers might not be T1 elite, but they can certainly hold their own, besides being a blast to play. Feel free to contribute to this thread if you have something to bring to the table.

  1. Clinging Flames, Frag Grenade with Incendiary ADV, PRE. I like this one a lot of healers with out crit heals or ranged DPS builds using PRE. The clinging flames not only provides a limitless pool of energy, it also keeps enemies at bay with a hardy knock back. With high EGO you can also put out some serious damage whilst REALLY sending enemies airborne. Highly underrated IMO.

  2. Gigabolt and Sonic Device with Deafening ADV. Like Gigabolt wasn't fun enough, nothing like clearing squads in a blink from 100ft. The recharge on Sonic Device can be substantial but the sound of destruction and amount of bodies this combo generates makes up for it. The stun is just icing on the thunder cake.

  3. Toxic Nanites with Defile. Same as above, but with a powerful bleed effect attached to a dangerous alpha strike. Softened up with the poison debuffs, this can melt bosses in moments, all at the comfort of 100ft.

  4. Seraphim, Nanobot Swarm with Rejuvenating ADV, and Critical spec (Dex or gear). The advantage gives a mediocre heal over 16 seconds, but with Seraphim it becomes something more serious. Oh and it can critical. I get an easy 1k tick with this, not to mention resetting most of my powers. Simple beautiful.

I will try to post more neat tricks and setups soon. Thanks!

ooh I might actually steal the gigabolt one!

this isn't as exciting/powerful as those, but Energy Wave with the Reverse Polarity advantage is a great lead-in to powers like Thunderclap, Ego Storm etc.

I actually made a toon using some of the weakest attacks in the game, and even though he's far from an offense powerhouse, he's proven to be quite fun. Turns out, there's some nice synergy in practice w/ the Mine spells, Orbital Cannon, and Tractor Beam that are pretty fun to play around w/ (though going in and out of melee as a squishy ranged isn't always a grand idea to build around, I've learned :| ).

Anyways, some combos.. well I'm not keen on obscure ones. Shadow Reverb can work w/ the MA moves that have paranormal dmg (rising knee, chi fist, etc), as long as you have an easy Fear apply. Some of my melee toons have some combo of rising knee's flowing strikes w/ follow-up moves like haymaker, chi fist, upheaval, etc. Tractor beam helps pull in mobs that may try to last-sec step out of ur Orbital cannon. Whirlwind's vortex adv is nice for keeping enemies clumped up in melee range for things like the mines or melee aoe. Dust devil can be boosted by thunderstrike's NI and frost breath or typhoon's chill adv, and it disorients to boot.

Oh, and my fave new combo: the explodey pulley kablamey- involves a hilarious mix of orbital cannon, tractor beam's ejector module, and mini/particle mines all going off at once on one target. Not easy to pull off the timing on it, but damn entertaining when you do >>

I like the good old-fashioned j?tun special: Frost Breath followed up by Roomsweeper. Put the advantage on your FB so that enemies are always chilled, then when you smack em with the Roomsweeper, it's a knock UP instead of knock back.

Very team-friendly way to use Might's signature AoE.

Um, Thermal Reverb works off Endurance now instead of Presence.

And if you want to make use of it, there is also Flashfire (most useful and reliable method probably), Pyre and Brimstone.

As for cool comboes, here's a couple...

-Ego Sleep with its Advantage is a quick way to apply both Fear and Disorient at range on tap, or aoe if charged. It can also apply other effects from your specialisations, such as Vulnerability (presence), Wither (sentinel) and Sentinel Mastery.

-Protector's Bulwark spec helps make tanking in Hybrid role viable. This means you don't necessarily have to use a Defensive Passive to tank. You could use Aura of Radiant Protection instead, which along with some heals would allow you to have a Support role healer build on switch if your team doesn't need a tank (be sure to have some attacks that don't have CS/CC).

An interesting combo that might seem strange is Ebon rift with Vengful ADV and very low EGO. The spike on it is very decent and it can chain up to three times when you only repel them slightly instead of a full knockback. With crit I can hit 7k three times on dummies.

Ya if you use Sigils with the Tractor beam, you can get some hilarious burst damage, especially the Arcane ones.

Nooooo. I just cried on the inside.

Ya I have been out of the game for some time, I just stop in every once in a while when I'm bored because I'm a lifer. The only thing different in months is the name on lock boxes :/

Yeah, I had the arcane sigils for a bit and they def added to the equation, but they didn't really fit the gadget-ey theme I had going w/ him, and I needed to make room for some more defenses so I could drag down- I mean, help Rampage groups w/ him :p

It's a combo that I don't see often, but stacking Regen (R3) / IDF (R3) seems to work pretty well with the majority of the gameplay, throw in BCR and you should be able to "Jenkins" to your heart's content and actually keep your 5 Star Hero Rating...
