Earth/Fighting Claws build advice

Per the thread title, looking for advice on a leveling build for an earth/fighting claws character. He's dinosaur themed, a bit of a brutish lug, stout dps more than damage tank.

I want to use the claws power that causes Shredded, and the Dragon attack natch, but I don't envision a martial arts master with this guy. From earth I was thinking Earth Form for passive, and Tremor/Upheaval, perhaps Fissure. There are enough knocks going around with the proper choices to make Enrage seem like a good form, not super sure on that.

Any help for a build skeleton would be wonderful, as my leveling-build-fu is merely average.

When you say fighting claws, do you mean organic claws (ala supernat beast) or the actual weapons tree in MA? Or both?

Earth abilities are best picked if you have a means of employing stagger, also most don't scale w/ strength or the melee role's bonuses (Upheaval does and is pretty good, though). I'm not sure either BSN or FC trees have staggers; it can still work out for theme reasons.. just not as well.

And if you used Enrage, you wouldn't be able to get Rush from Dragon's Claws, if that's the ability you meant. Enrage can work if you dun use the basic melee combo too much and make most the rest of the abilities knocks, but for an MA toggle that will allow Rush then Form of the Tempest is prob the best pick.

Totally forgot I had posted this >.<

I meant Fighting Claws the weapon, not the beast powers. Primarily just Viper's Fangs, Dragon Claws and maybe Rend and Tear (aaaaand maybe the EB). From Earth, there are a few different Knocks which made me think Enrage, and with only 1 Focus ability I hadn't even considered Rush.

Its doable, but a bit clunky. It might be better to just make a primarily FC guy with a couple of Earth powers as gimmicks than mixing the two sets evenly. I'll take the advice you provided, Flowcyto, and see what happens.

    Thanks for the reply.

To be fair, FC doesn't have any unique AoEs that employ the claws as a weapon. If there's any place to supplement some Earth powers w/, its to cover AoE.

Here's a sample build to help you brainstorm a bit:

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Archetype: Freeform

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Dexterity (Primary)
    Level 10: Strength (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Master
    Level 6: Physical Conditioning
    Level 9: Acrobat
    Level 12: Martial Focus
    Level 15: Quick Recovery
    Level 18: Relentless
    Level 21: Impresario

    Powers:
    Level 1: Boomerang Toss
    Level 1: Viper's Fangs (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 6: Way of the Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Form of the Tempest
Level 11: Land Slide (Nailed to the Ground)
    Level 14: Dragon's Claws (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Bountiful Chi Resurgence (Resurgent Reiki)
    Level 20: Tremor (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 23: Molecular Self-Assembly
Level 26: Resurgence (Rank 2, Evanescent Emergence)
Level 29: Fissure (Rank 2, Reconstruct)
Level 32: Rend and Tear (Rank 2)
    Level 35: Tiger's Bite (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 38: Stone Shroud

    Travel Powers:
    Level 6: Athletics (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Earth Flight

    Specializations:
    Dexterity: Gear Utilization (3/3)
    Dexterity: Brush It Off (2/2)
    Dexterity: Deadly Aim (3/3)
    Dexterity: Expose Weakness (2/2)
    Warden: Slaughter (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Upper Hand (2/3)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Dexterity Mastery (1/1)

W/ this type of build you'd be using Viper's Fangs to apply shredded, then full charge a DC for rush and tap-spam it till shredded is about to expire (TB can be used as an 'execute' style move for shredded targets near death, or for when the debuff is about to expire), reapply shredded w/ VF, repeat.
I gave you Tremor as a basic aoe that doubles as aoe CC, and fissure in the same vein (w/ reconstruct also heals you and allies that stand in it, moreso w/ stone shroud if you block). R&T was kept in as a quicker single-target CC in melee. If you need a bit of extra energy ya can also use Land Slide for triggering MSA (ofc, its also good as a lunge).

Dex or Str primary SS is up to you- both work well, but if ur using a Focus toggle then most of ur gearing stats should focus on Dex regardless.

Hope that helped give you some more ideas. Have fun w/ it.

Thanks a ton for the help and the build!

I'll give it a test drive and see how it runs. There is a lot in there I hadn't considered just due to being too locked into "earth guy" mentality. Thanks again; "builder's block" stinks, but this should be just the thing to overcome it.

Yeah feel free to tinker around w/ it as you wish- esp w/ the Earth powers. You seemed to be set on the good claw attacks, the rest is just filling in the gaps w/ Earth abilities that you like the 'feel' of.
    Happy to help 8)
