My first draft of TK tank

Hello,

After feeling a bit disappointed of my PA toogle tank, I am looking to retcon to a new thing. After watching Snake Wildlife ultimate tanking video and some other threads in the forums I came with a tank build around TK,

    What are your goals here?

    Just at a glance-

Mental Discipline is a form you'd want to rank up, it's not like the other forms.
I would also suggest not using it, while it can be made to work for some builds it won't give you much benefit on yours. Perhaps form of the tempest.

Ego Reverberation isn't going to do anything for you either, as it scales off of ego.

Mental Storm (resistance debuff), Mental Leech (amazing heal), and Shadow of Doubt (damage debuff) would be powers to consider as well.

I would not suggest Fluidity on anything other than a LR build.

    Thanks for your comments

My main objective is to make a pretty sturdy tank based on Snake Wildlife build of damage resistance, debuffing and healing. However, I don't want to steer towards toxic damage using devour essence but rather using ego weaponry as attack/healing.

I using TK assault as attack for dps.

I am using CC on ice cage because is a range attack so I could do emergency taunts.

I change MD for FotT since focus will gives me good buff even on range, especially since I SS dex.

ego reverberation or msa, I am not sure yet. All my attacks has a chance for ego leech but at the same time I should be using conviction and bcr constantly.

Energy Unlocks aren't going to do anything for you if you don't stat for them. Snake's build could get away with it because Supernatural Power is good out of the box. If you want to use Ego Reverb, you're looking at getting some ego. If you want to use MSA, you'll want int.

Added R2 for Ego Weaponry, the heal on that is based on your crit damage, so you don't want to skimp out on that.

Dropped howl for Mental Storm, this will hike up your damage a bit.

Dropped Ice Cage for Shadow of Doubt. Its function is similar, but gives you more -damage.

If you want more ranged damage drop FoTT for Concentration.

Those 2 TP powers look pretty awesome. However, I have to check how they actually work, especially if mind break is necessary for getting 4 stacks of the special effects. I have a TP char that has due a retcon so I will experiment on him first.

about the energy unlock, by the current plan I will have at least enough ego for the range damage softcap. However, I could SS int or ego instead of pre. I am inclined to go for int because the cooldown and cost reduction. So I guess it would be msa.

Well, w/o ranking up Mental Storm or SoD, it will take a bit to get the stacks built to 4- but Int gearing can help reduce their cd and fuel MSA anyways. You prob wouldn't want Mind Break on this build cause its not dps-oriented, and Mind Break is more an execute/dps move since it ends the debuffs that TP dots stack (as a tank, I'd assume you'd want to not explode 4 stacks of -power dmg and -ego resist that took a while to build up on the target).

According this thread , new TP powers has some mistakes in their info, the one that I am most concern is that SoD is not really an interrupt. Is this true?

afaik, SoD doesn't interrupt (if it does, then its a hidden, random property not indicated on the latest tooltip). Now, Mental Storm can function as an interrupt in effect since it paralyzes the target(s)- but it only works for that purpose against non-bosses.

Thanks, I am back to ice cage. I am keeping SoD for dmg debuff but with no adv. I am switching from tk eruption to tk burst. While tk burst has less area, it is range and has a paralize and knock down*.

    * not sure if I should keep this adv or going rank3.

Well, to me Mental Storm and Ice Cage aren't that similar in function, but at least you can put CC on Ice Cage (the debuff, even if not needed for threat- is still very good -dmg done for a tank).

Sudden Impact is nice to give you some CC outside an interrupt- AoE wont be as strong, but as a tank its more about stacking CS than anything else.

I am unsure about your choice of CoPD. I mean, I understand fully why you took it, and it potentially can be very useful, but I wonder if you truly will be able to stay in the circle and be willing to plop it down often enough.

If you do find the style of circle laying/standing to be too inconvenient in-play, then you may want to consider swapping to Con as PSS (lose some crit/dmg, but gain heals form crit, knock scaling w/ Con, extra health, and potentially some extra defense or dodge rating) and dropping the circle for something else (could put something like Mental Storm or TK Eruption back in its place, for ex). Ofc, if you still plan on being a ranged tank_dps vs. Grav, then the circle is a good thing to keep.

I tested the build I did. While it was pretty sturdy, the damage was still a bit low and the heal from siphoning strikes was not really too significant. TK burst was too low damage, so I put tk eruption back. I went back mental discipline and I superstated ego.

If you wanted a bit more dmg in that build then ya could consider replacing the Gizmo w/ Mental Storm or Ebon Ruin w/ the paranormal adv.

    Otherwise, it's looking pretty good.

I'm back. After checking a bit this buld. I found to main problems.

    1) CC needs to in a decent damage power, which shadow of doubt is not.

    2) Since I'll be working on low dodge chance, BCR shows kind of innefective. I was leaning to bionic shielding but its hard cd, could be a problem so I am thinking about getting resurgance.

This is the proposed build for your comments

BCR/RR isn't that bad even w/o dodge increasing passives, but since you have Conviction I dun think its necessary. Adding Resurgence for a bigger tank cd is prob a wiser choice (Unbreakable or MD could also work). Putting CC on TKA is prob also a good idea- its nice for the debuff and 'taunt' feature of it to not be on a cd power like SoD.

BCR/RR isn't that bad even w/o dodge increasing passives, but since you have Conviction I dun think its necessary. Thanks for your comments.

Another change in the build is the last specialization. I put Vindicator instead of Sentry to get more dmg and use aggresive stance to take advantage of the offense bonus from justice gear.

Sounds fine to me. It all kinda depends on ur goals. Sentry is good for crit-based tank, but its main offensive boost is for single target attacks- otherwise like Protector I consider it a pure mitigation tree. If you wanted a better offense/defense mix then Vindicator does that well when paired w/ Warden_Guardian, and the flat crit% boosts + 15% severity will help a crit heavy build even more.
