Support powers ?

So.. is this going to sound silly ? We don't have support powers. Nuh huh, we only have "prevent X from dying" powers. Can we have support powers ? As in defense/speed/dodge/avoidance/damage/penetration/max health boosts ? Well I don't really think we will get these, but how good would it be ? In my opinion it sure would prevent support toons from feeling pretty useless, and they would really be useful as hell IF and only IF we get a difficulty review. Would there be flaws to such a system ? Because I would definitely go for a support toon then, where right now there are only healers, and a green number slinger is never really interesting in itself.

Actually, I've made a support character - one who doesn't heal hardly at all, but can (usually) still keep a team alive. The key powers for me were: Aura of Radiant Protection, Inertial Dampening Field, and Sentinel specialization for the Sentinel Aura. (I also tossed in Sentry Aura for just a bit more resistance because why not).

Now, IDF does cause some issues with energy; it's generally not a problem in support role, but I'd suggest picking up Dark Transfusion; Sentinel Aura will mostly offset the health cost.

You also probably want one real heal; I picked Mindful Reinforcement - which seems to play well with Dark Transfusion; I haven't noticed it losing effectiveness with DT's healing debuff.

For the rest of your build, you'll probably want: one offensive form power (so you can defeat things faster when you don't need IDF running), an active offense, and whatever attacks & utility powers happen to make you happy. My version uses ego/int/pre as super stats, concentration for a backup form power, lightning arc & lightning storm, and miniaturization drive with reciprocal gyro, but it shouldn't be hard to swap in different powers - a melee version with str/con/pre might make for an interesting character.

Oh, and a res. Make sure you get a ressurection power. Not that you'll need it outside of fighting Gravitar, but it'll come in quite handy there. (Self-res is also a good idea; my build uses devices for that, but that's because I have an absurd stockpile of self-res devices left over from the halloween event.)

Some "Buff Other" type powers would be nice... since currently all we have are "Heal" "Shield" "Crowd Control" "Debuff" "Stealth Area (Sigils of Radiant Sanctuary)"... but nothing in the area of Buffs outside of a few devices such as Resistance Megaphone... I'd love to have some powers that enhanced allies abilities for a short term...

Yea, we may have tons of self-buffs, but that's hardly a reason why we can't have ally-buffs or team-buffs...

I support the idea of "Active Support" powers. "Click this and buff your allies and receive a portion of the bonus IFF the power is affecting an ally"

Another user of "IFF" "If and only if" O.o I'm not alone!!!!

Honestly, I think we need more than just Active Supports... we need some real "Buff-ally" style powers... stuff similar to Illumination is use... but with different effects... stuff like "Damage increase" "charge time reduction" "added effect to next x attacks" and the likes...

I'm just starting today, having come from DCU Online.
The support roles there have become nothing but 1 or 2 functions to support the damage players who don't dodge or block, but simply rely upon support players to keep them powers and alive.
Then they yell at support players if they run out of power or die.

    Not much fun.

Would love to see support powers used well, but selfish players like that can ruin an otherwise fun role and thus ruin the game. (that's why I'm here)
