Beast Build Energy Concerns

I'm leveling a FF Beast concentrating on Melee/PBAoE tanking, and at lvl 22 he's having to let the mobs pound on him a bit (and/or use his builder) to recover energy. I am considering swapping Dex secondary SS for End, however the build does use some dodge synergies. Looking at the below, do you think I could rely on gear for End, or it is "better" to use End SS and rely on gear for Dex, or some third option?

Since CON is your PSS, I would drop STR for REC, which will dramatically improve your energy return from Defiance and Supernatural Power. This would require a switch from AotB to Form of the Tempest, but it would work just as well with a high enough crit rate. You can gear for a bit of STR if it's a thematic issue, as the buff to melee damage is additive and not as beneficial as you would think.

For leveling I'd drop Dex for Rec/End. Might also want to swap Con and Strength as your form isn't going to be giving you much energy return with low str.

I'd also swap Aspect of the Bestial For Enrage, as you'll really be sucking wind when you start to use Massacre without it. It also works better with Vicious Cyclone.

Eh, imo the real value of Str to any tank (Str-scaling toggles aside) is the knock resist, but Con PSS can somewhat replace that, as can other abilities (CoPD, Elusive Monk, *ahem* blocking at the right times :p).

I would agree that dropping Dex for End/Rec could work - or swapping to a Focus toggle and dropping Str instead.

Keep in mind that you are only lvl 22. You really shouldn't expect all ur energy issues to be solved that early- given just how drastically higher gear levels can change the energy situation. That said, more Rec/End gearing in general, regardless of build or later plans, is always helpful at mid-low levels. If you find it excessive for lvl 40, ya can always use the free retrain.

Where are you coming from on this? you do realize that AotB is an Enrage form so, the Enrage buff will be present for Massacre.

    That aside...

I'd agree with dropping Dex for End or Rec... being "A little dodgy" is no reason to keep Dex if you feel you need some better energy management... if your to reluctant to drop your Dex though, then you can always keep your Super Stats as they are and just slot some End/Rec mods in your gear.

As for the recommendations of dropping Str and taking a Focus Form... if you take that route you may want to consider Form of the Swordsman rather than the prior suggestion of Form of the Tempest. As your build is Bleed Heavy and your using AotB currently this switch would be the most logical if you were to take that route. Rather than attempting to rely on crits to build stacks you'd still build off bleeds.

Personally I'd say slot some End/Rec mods atleast until lvl 30, if your energy issues are still present, then I'd drop either Dex or Str for End/Rec and change to FotS if dropping Str.

    Massacre does not trigger aotb.

That would depend on the rotation he used, ya? I assume you want him to be optimal and rely on Massacre primarily, only using Shred to keep up shredded and a bleed? Cause then Enrage would make more sense. If he was using Shred primarily instead, then AotB would be the choice.

I'll assume if Massacre is in the build that will be the primary source of damage.
Shred is a utility power, not so much for the damage.

The only setup I could see aotb being useful to Bestial is if you opted for a Bite build.

My bestial build has Dex as PSS, Con and Rec as SSS. I use Form of the Tempest and it works very well for her since she crits very often. Don't often have energy issues. When I start to spam Massacre, often it'll be that Massacre will drop my energy down to the threshold for Supernatural Power to trigger, which will pop my energy back up enough to charge the next Massacre. Rinse and repeat.

I missed that Massacre does KD, and didn't pair Vicious Cyclone's Knockto with Enrage when considering things (doh!). Swapping to Enrage will be my first step, since my opening move in spawns is to use Vicious Cyclone to gather them up and finish off the trash. Later I'd like Massacre to be a mainstay, only using Shred occasionally for its advantages and to apply bleed.

Good to know that I'd still be OK with any of the options between the SSs in question (with Rec edging out End due to Defiance), and using equipment to bolster a fourth stat, which will likely be Rec for me.

Yah, I wasn't looking to have all issues solved at lvl 22, however with my Energy Unlock and Passive in play it seemed that I was in the perversely humorous situation of wanting enemies to beat on Gnawtt in order to regain enough energy to finish them off.
