Dear Perfect World Team

How long will this upcoming release of Arc be taking?. I'm asking this today because I want to star and try out the new game that I have't even touched before called STO.

However I'm too afraid that I will mess something up with my other game CO, and I whuold like to stay away from Arc as much as possible to the hate I have in such programs. I have noticed you bought up in a update of this Arc that players will have the choice to launch their games through the existing launchers, without Arc, are welcome to do so while we continue to iterate on the Arc Client.

However what I fail to understand is that why do I need to download Arc right now at this time in order to even download STO.

I'm wondering if your team or someone could link me to a page where I will not have to download Arc in order to play.

I will not accept..random links from people I do not kown and only a dev team, so don't try it people. Also please note this is a post in-order to get one of the devs to respond to me not an normal post so please re-frame from posting on here that has nothing to do with this topic.

Please and thank you

Sincerely,

Cryneting

    OOPS lol

I don't understand how you expect any of the dev team to even find this let alone care to help you find a place to download STO where you don't need to download ARC. You'll just have to be more trusting of people.

As I understand it, the current setup requires that you have either Steam or Arc to download any PWE games, including CO and STO. I had both of them back when we were still under frigging Atari, so I can't verify - but my roommate's been making noises about getting me a new laptop for Christmas, so I might be finding out soon.

(Apparently, he's tired of hearing me cursing when the particle effects slow my graphics processor to a crawl...)

You can use steam to download STO and afterwards play STO without steam. If you launch STO directly it will not start steam, it will not care if steam is running, maybe it wont even care if you deinstall steam, never tried that.

Just go to your steam folder after downloading it and launch STO directly.

Do the installers from the discs still work?

I recently migrated drives and ended up having to go through Arc and then moving folders around for Steam (which has been working much much more reliably than Arc). I didn't even think of re-installing from the discs to get the old launcher back until I had gotten the Steam installs up and running.

The Steam wallet makes it (too) easy to buy Zen.

If you are playing CO without Arc nor Steam, I ll guess you are using the old launcher (as I do), well if so, there is an option to link all Cryptic games to the CO launcher, you choose the game in the same combo you choose between Live/PST, and any of the 3 games will be patched/launched from CO launcher. I m at work atm so I can not check the exact option, but you should find it just in the launcher options.

If you copy the Cryptic Studios folder to the new computer you do not need to download the game and you ll continue using the old launcher, of course you ll need to manually create the shortcut but it ll save a lot of downloading time.
When you copy the game respect the same path, in my PC is something like d:\program files\cryptic... in the new computer use the same path you are using now.

I had to reinstall CO after upgradng windows.

I installed it then deleted arc, then created a desktop link for the game.

and Nepht is actually correct, rudely done but correct.
Look for the ARC forum threads on STO. A lot of people asked for the files to install it without and several people posted links. You'll just have to read through the ARC thread to find it.

try this one or try under technical problems

Well, in the future, it's going to be just ARC to launch and patch all the games after the removal of Game Lauchers. And maybe thru Steam also. Maybe.

Arc will not cause a disruption in playing. New installations go through Arc because it allows us to put more social tools in your hand and better functionality, and as we continue to improve Arc, it'll keep getting better. Currently, for Cryptic games, you can only install them through Arc or Steam.

    Hope that helps.

I don't need or want more social tools in my hands or shoved down my throat. So if there's nothing in it for me, what's in it for PWE? That's who it's really for.

Glad I had my game installed before Arc and Steam. I don't like Arc and I don't use Steam *too* much. Only when Starbound has a grasp at my throat and is forcing me to look at the screen.

I've installed NW twice with ARc, both times it comes with errors which make the game unplayeable. something to do with Nvidia drivers

Well that's a bit depressing, i just subbed and have an NVidia card. If it comes down to it, it's cheaper to unsub than buy a new video card unfortunately. Which doubly sucks since I'm recently returning and have a chance to give CO some money this time around.

Is it impossible to just download and play the game now? Do users have to go through a third party?

The Steam install have been problem free for me so far.

The Arc installs would need the game (CO, STO, and NWO, happened on all of them) fired up once, wait for it to hang, kill the process, then I could start it and have it work fine for the rest of the time my computer was awake.

I've got an integrated NVidia card.

The one downside to Steam is buying Zen through the Steam Wallet is way too easy.

Steam/Valve is third-party. ARC isn't; ARC is a PWE user-management tool being applied to PWE's games such as CO, STO, etc, etc, etc ...

Thankfully I used Steam to originally install and did so again so no issues atm. Appreciate the info for the future.

ive 6 maxed chars on STO...the game is kind of fun.. but only when you can delete the memory of champions in your mind..lol

STO is same engienas champions but crippled... movements is slow and customization level is almost zero... no free costume unlocks from perks(( wich is why i bought them all)).. everything is pay/lockbxed except for missions...

but you can roleplay there good.. if you find the right people
