I really haven't played this game since the first year it came out. Right now I am still FtP, but seriously thinking about re-upping.

I tried the Grimoire and got it up to around level 8 or so and starting thinking about remaking it freeform since I like the concept I came up with for the character. Concept is first and foremost to me3 before I tried to abuse the ever living hell out of whatever rule system I am playing.

The concept is a female magic student of much promise who was hit on by one of her male teachers. she turned him down and sometime later discovered he was a demon summoner. He found out she knew and tried to turn her into a demon, most likely a succubus. Her magic helped her escape and with the help of the rest of her teachers and arcane devices she must wear, they were able to contain the transformation to her right hand, right foot and eyes.

What I am looking to do is make a character that is less face planty that I seemed to be with the grimoire and as i understand it, the archetypes were for the most part designed to annoy people to make them group or subscribe.

What I am looking for a the best dps I can get without sacrificing survivability or soloability and still be good for groups. IE, I want my cake and to eat it too, like everyone else I imagine. I read a great thread about character design on how everyone needs to be their own 'trinity.' I have an idea on the types of powers I need, but not which ones.

The concept i have pretty much leaves any of the magic sets open. I imagine her partial demon transformation would give her some 'evil' spells only to be countered by some celestial magic. That leaves everything in between available.

Since it is late, I will sleep on it and then try to cobble together a build tomorrow that hopefully will not be too bad.

Thanks

Ok so this is my remake of a former Grimoire. It's made to be a dps blast spammer.

For both DPS and the demonic part Shadow Form works well (demon takes over when fighting, rage surge, bla bla). As well as rebirth.

The two heavy weapons powers (block and Earth Splitter) are to use the cool staff from the Wizard&Witch costume set. If you want to use celestial magic you can change these two powers.

OK, after spending all morning and have up about a dozen web pages over two computers...
I have a frikken headache!

This is what I got so far:

Level 17: Grasping Shadows (Rank 2, Unyielding Agony)
Level 20: Arcane Vitality (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Defile (Rank 2, Plague Bearer)
Level 26: Summon Shadows (Rank 2, Devouring Darkness)
    Level 29: Shadow Shroud
    Level 32: Rebirth (Grave Consequences)
    Level 35:
    Level 38:

    Travel Powers:
    Level 6: Teleportation (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:

    Specializations:
    Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
    Presence: Grandeur (3/3)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
    Presence: Force of Will (2/2)
    Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Rejuvenated (3/3)
    Sentinel: Genesis (1/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
    Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

I wasn't sure about Defile vs Skarn's Bane. It looks like with my passive that Skarn's would do more damage, but with high enough INT it may be that I could get off 3 Defile in the same time Skarn's is maintained?

Will the AoE from the advantage of Defile count as an AoE for Mass Destruction?

I also noticed that Seraphim doesn't give any physical resist. Do I really need it at all levels?

I do have a lot of healing and should be able to keep a full stack of compassion.

I do need(?) to add a block power, but I am not sure what and where to stick it in. What is the difference between damage reduction and resist?

I think my energy production is good, but not sure. Not sure how energy forms work since CoAP and Seraphim both count as one. I think i am good there. I don't think I have enough powers to make use of any other type of energy unlock.

Thanks all I got for now. Gonna eat Goody Powders for a while.

Hopefully I will not run into them often since I can't find out which ones they are. I know Force Cascade will turn mine off if I use it and Skarn's Bane will prevent an enemy from activating one, but doesn't say it will turn it off.

I think I may go with fire shield to say I am channeling infernal flame to protect myself.

For the last power maybe a pet summons with the advantage that lets it follow me? I am not too sure about the energy penalties that go along with it or another sigil.

OK, I have a more structured design goal and a few questions.

My design goal is to have the first 5 or so powers be magic powers and the next 5 or so show the darkness and hellfire of the curse coming out and the last 5 or so be more full infernal/darkness/fire to show that the more powerful she becomes the closer she comes to what she would have become if not for the arcane bracers/wards placed on her. The problem with the later part is that fire and infernal powers gain no benefit from Seraphim, though Defile seems like it would do good without it.

I replaced Eldritch Blast with Rebuke. It seems to do more damage and can be used as a heal.

How soon do I need an AoE attack? Suggestions on which one depending on where it goes? I was thinking Shadow Embrace or Fire Breath.

Will anything work for this build besides CoAP?

I was thinking about taking out SotAS as I think it will be useless at higher levels and putting in Ebon Weakness as a debuff is always useful. If so where would it go?

Will Compassion work on me before and after Sentinel Aura if I am alone? If not then would Concentration be a better choice?

This is what it looks like up until the point I realized I had some questions I needed answered before proceeding.

Okay, questions need to be answered, an AoE is a must have for leveling, so I'd suggest taking one as fast as possible, AoEs clean up a lot of smaller mobs fast, having only a single target attack is a great pain that you should avoid, it is both tedious and dangerous.
Having said so you also need a good single target attack for the tougher mobs and bosses.
You wont go far with just one of them, you do need both.
(unless you go for an all out AoE damage, but that is for for this toon as it is now)

Circles are not necessary, they are fine additions to a build, but they do lock you up in one place if you use them, which can be very bad depending on the situation.

Sigils of Ebon Weakness are a great debuff that I heartily approve of using.

From my experience Compassion works fine solo, sentinel aura on yourself does proc it.
If you want to deal more dmg feel free to switch to concentration, tho.

I took your basis for a build from the post above and made it into another one:

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Powers:
    Level 1: Eldritch Bolts
Level 1: Rebuke (Rank 2, Admonish)
    Level 6: Seraphim (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 8: Compassion
Level 11: Shadow Embrace (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 14: Sigils of Ebon Weakness (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Arcane Vitality (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Summon Shadows (Rank 2, Devouring Darkness)
Level 23: Ebon Void (Voracious Darkness)
Level 26: Ebon Ruin (Rank 2, Nyctophobia, Paranormal Paranoia)
    Level 29:
    Level 32:
    Level 35:
    Level 38:

    Travel Powers:
    Level 6: Teleportation (Rank 2)
    Level 35:

    Specializations:
    Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
    Presence: Grandeur (3/3)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
    Presence: Force of Will (2/2)
    Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Moment of Need (3/3)
    Sentinel: Genesis (1/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
    Mastery: Presence Mastery (1/1)

    Specialisations:
Nothing changed in Pre tree, move along.

In Sentinel: Rejuvenated - the problem is that it affects only active HoTs, not passive ones.
There is a whole lot of one such power in Champions.
I cant remember which one it was, but it is a charged heal that has additional HoT component on a full charge, Rejuvenated touches only just that one specific effect, sad isnt it.

Instead of it I put points into Moment of Need, crit heals are a great thing.

In Vindicator: You dont need The Rush of Battle, you have plenty of ways to heal yourself without worrying about having to kill a mob for heal, you can put these points whereever you want instead, I put them into single attack crit chance because having your big hitters crit doesnt hurt (at least you, enemies is another matter).

    Now powers:
I left your Rebuke alone, while it is not all that great the aoe stun is nice, you can even use it on yourself to stun enemies all around you.

Ebon Void with adv is the best self damage reduction you can find on a block, and it fits your character.
If it doesnt suit you, however, feel free to stay with Fire Shield.

Now infernal powers, you can incorporate them, but they wont be very effective with Seraphim.
I honestly think that the "infernal" powerset is not all that demonic, with maybe the exception of Devour Essence. Darkness does a much better job at it.

If you really want to throw together powers from many different powersets, a passive that doesnt boost any one specific type of damage may actually work better for you.

Aura of Ebon Destruction will increase any damage you deal, and your allies' too.
Aura od Primal Majesty is the go to passive for people that make so called frankenbuilds, as it simply boosts all your stats (and your team's too).
Aura of Radiant Protection will increase your defences, and so will it do so for your allies.
It also looks great... okay, looked great, now just pick the legacy AoRP aura for some nice runic gyroscope around your toon.
Aura of Arcane Clarity is a sad litttle thing that nobody speaks about.

If you want to stay with Seraphim you should keep your attack powers in Paranormal damage type, which regarding powersets includes various types of Sorcery, Darkness, Celestial, Telekinesis and Telepathy.

Having said so I replaced your Defile with Ebon Ruin, it deals more dmg to a feared target, and debuffs any futher paranormal damage. It is your big hitter.

Summon Shadows is a great summon, 3 durable shadows that deal good dmg and heal you for a percentage of it, further increased by Ebon Ruin's debuff.

Now, it is very late here, but I threw together two builds for you, a Seraphim one that goes heavily into Darkness and an Infernal AoRP one.
I will just put them here for you to inspect, any questions you have I'll try to answer tommorow. (the AoRP one is pretty much a respec build until lvl 14 or 17)

Thanks for the advice and builds. I will look them over and see what I want to do. Maybe tomorrow when I have more time and coffee.

Been working on a bestial build for solo in case I use this character to run with friends after the holidays.

[edit]\It didn't take as long as I thought it might.

Ok, I kind of like the first build and I should with some clever color changes make it look like it has some fire elements to it. I did make some changes (maybe stupid ones) to fit my theme a little more.

For the most part it is the same except I got rid of conviction for rebuke. My thinking is that rebuke is a better single target heal except for it needing to be charged up. I am thinking that between it and arcane vitality, I should do OK as a healer. I could be wrong and will except such if so. I think rebuke can heal me if I have no target.

I also took out inequity ad added rebirth to keep with the idea that I could bring myself back and something comes back with me. That will be useful solo and in a group so that I can use the following power to start bringing back anyone else who died. At least that is the way I am hoping it works out while the zombies keep anything else busy.

I do have one question. Can I really wait until 29 to get my energy unlock since this is a leveling build?

    Thanks.
