Most Irritating Mission

My Vote goes to Sammie's lost dollies. A quest I didn't touch for months, having to wait for the necessary dolls to spawn when 3 in particular were in far more frequency - it wasn't until an update I was able to actually see the other 3 names.

Straighten Out the Crooked. This is that annoying instance mission in Lemuria where all the mobs aren't "separated". Normally, enemies are separated into groups totaling three life bars. Hit an enemy, and everyone in that enemy's group will aggro you regardless of how far they are. Nearby enemies outside of that group will ignore you if they were not hit. In that mission, however, each room is considered a group. Hit a mob and everyone in the entire room will aggro you. I got through it by spamming Sword Cyclone and having a Heath on Kill item, but that shouldn't be needed especially since there's nothing indicating its difficulty (it appears as a typical soloable mission). It might be a fun measure of testing character damage and durability similar to taking down a full Powerhouse group at once or soloing Teleiosaurus... at least until someone fixes that mission.

Gah you young folks don't know when you're born....
I remember when it was stuck in 5 man instance....
this was my thread - i am that archived poster
I suppose any instanced mish in Vibora Bay is pretty tedious, not like the old days when I (and possibly others) would gleefully do these missions coz we couldn't farm the vampire graveyard and maybe we might get one of those rare drops in the instanced missions.
Giggles hysterically - do you remember the "NEW SHADOWS WAIST CAPE".
    typical thread on this subject

Or what about those gather evidence missions on the old Mil Cit circuit?
    another of my posts

Irritating you don't know the meaning of the word.

I first ran that at about the same timeframe you posted that. I wasn't active on the forums back then. I am pleasantly surprised someone brought it up though given the general (lack of) love for Lemuria here.

Oh, I remember Waist Cape farming. My first 5K kill perk was for New Shadows and was unintentional (the only 5K kill perk I really wanted was the Ghost Pirates for the Harquebus). I used the Vibora Bay Crisis to farm when everyone else farmed Vibora Bay proper. Speaking of Waist Cape farming, I'm getting nostalgic for the game's economy back then. You know, when Cosmic Keys weren't the new currency and the 250G limit for Silvers was somewhat reasonable.

As for the Westside gangs evidence quest, I don't remember having much issue with that because I worked that in with all the other Westside missions (back when you got the hot dog vender outfit for the New Purples mission, Lt. Tiggs handed out a daily instead of just standing there, the bodyguards of Wayland Talos were outside in the open world pwning the illiterate newbs, and Millennium City had 20 instances). Maybe for one or two of my characters; but don't remember if that was due to luck, drop rates, or killing speed. I did have issue with a similar one involving PSI and having to collect 20 Mind Control Devices. The crap drop rate of that was consistent for my characters. That mission is still in the game and continues to aggravate me.

    Rivalry for the Relic.
It would be so much fun to hang around China town kung fu fighting for as long as I please, but no, this freakin mission drop has to clutter up the place.

It shouldn't even be a shiny drop, it should look like a brown paper bag with
something wet and browner at the bottom with steam rising off it.

Then its "run to this forlorn part of the map" and "run to this other useless corner" and then "go to Defender" all that for some some terrible XP reward I could have gotten in a Help Citizen mission
without having to run all over to the ugliest most boring parts of Westside.

    Jailbreak.

I've been rocking the same Nemesis for months because he never breaks that mission. Any other Nemesis I've ever created, I have to do the mission 3-6 times before it actually completes.

Bunker Buster is a close second for the same reason.

Ah so shadowzero66 is an older timer than I assumed, well that makes an a** outta me.
But yeah some of the tedious stuff has been removed and things are much easier than they once were. I agree the increase in drop rates of those ole pieces has removed not only frustration but maybe (in a masochistic way) fun as well. Although getting 5k kills and still no drop may not strike you as fun it was kinda fun to see the regular screams on the forums and the incredible prices of gear.

Anyways back to topic and I have some contenders.
Rats in a maze - done this arc a few times now and I don't wanna be presented with it every time I go to the Manimal stronghold which I need to do several times.
Inglorious base deterred - leading to Nesting Instinct and A New King Snake in town. Another one that shows up if I happen to be in the wrong place (somehow I always seem to be). Why do I not do the whole arc in one go? 3 x trips into the same fricking base no thankyou so stop offering the mission to me.

See how awesome they are, how they can irritate without you actually doing them?

I agree. These two being broken is really frustrating.

Add to it every collect an item mission in the game, since none of them recognize your teammates so you effectively have to double or triple your kills.

Hate that so much, all of Secret World operates that like and there's never any UI update to tell you what state your team is in so its like a car ride to the psychiatric hospital "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Did we leave one of my voices in my head back at the house?"

What's the most irritating thing in CO?
When you balls something up all by yourself and you can't blame cryptic!
    Just did a Cybermind alert with a PUG 3 x 40s, a 30 something and me a lev 40 Dex/Str/Con invuln sword cyclone build.
Group DPS was up to scratch and we did the first bits with ease no deaths and quickly demo'd the firewall.
When we got to Cybertwit however it proved a bit more challenging. One member of the group consistantly died first but it was my own screw ups that really really hack me off.
    1. I somehow lost track of where my mouse pointer was and instead of applying Bionic shielding I switched my gorram build. Everything was in the wrong place and I couldn't readjust in tme, so I died and then. Instead of pressing my self rez device - y'know the one in the DEVICE TRAY I pressed recover instead. AAAAAAAARGHHHHHH!
So what should I do - blame cryptic for not realising how stupid I can be?
    2. I lost sight of the panel I was on momentarily and for some reason assumed (when it came back into sight) that it had changed color so of course I ran out into the purple rain to get to the column - which by the way just happened to have the same color as the panel I was standing on. GRARRRRRRGGGGGH!
Cryptic is clearly at fault for not realising how stupid I am.

Well we regrouped again and tho I died once on the final effort I rezzed myself and we won through, I got a whole 34,999 resources for that and somehow it doesn't count as completed in my missions log.
Y'know what I really don't care about that I just can't believe how dumb I can be!

I don't mind that one so much. Gives me something to do late at night while waiting for queues to pop.

I do wish Sean would stop spawning though. One night I saw him 9 times in a row. o.o

Given a 1 in 6 chance the odds on that have to be astronomically silly.

Serpent Lantern, not because it is hard or anything, but it just seems so lazily made even for an MMO mission. They just copy and paste the first three missions, add a bunker at the end, then copy and paste that three times.

I've done it and didn't think it was that bad(unless you count that when the server resets sometimes it doesn't put them all in the spawn cycle so after a few hours you're left with,"Screw it, try again next week.") I mean it's NOTHING compared to Chapter and Verse. After(not an exaggeration) over 100 Therakiel's Temple runs on Live(not counting PTS) I had gotten down to the last 2 bits(the ones that, at the time, weren't even on the Wiki because we couldn't confirm if they were even in the game) only to have Cryptic bugger the whole thing and randomly reset it on some players. To make it even worse the 1st 2 I got on a run to try for the, at the time, recently discovered Therakiel's Blade PR, were the 2 I had been missing all along. Due to this screwup I've only been back to TT like 5 times since then. I put in a GM ticket but it was apparently one of the "hard tickets" because it was just deleted without ever recieving a reply cause...ya know...customer service and all that jazz. :frown:

The only Alerts featuring Nighthawk? are generic Smashes and Grabs. Do you mean the Nighthawk? event (In the penthouse with the vehicles), that was brought back a couple months ago, but has never been part of the rotation?

Gather around lil ones and I'll tell you the story of Nighthawk?(As a totally made up joke about what newbies must think based on actual game content).

In MC there once was a diabolical criminal organization named "Nighthawk?" comprised of many villians who wore similar black costumes with hoods and capes. They terrorized the city performing all kinds of various crimes like robbing banks and threatening the locals..even the mayor. Then one of them decided to turn all "Goody goody" and become a hero. Nighthawk? wasn't having any of this and so they offed him. Although the heroes of MC capture and/or thwart their activities from time to time....Nighthawk? is still currently at large. -The End?

Think about it for a second, Nighthawk is gone and yet Nighthawk? is still around. Nighthawk? must have won.

P.S. I am so doing this as a foundry mission....some day.

Its been rotated into the game as an event twice to date. It's a queued system that could be
confused with Alerts if one forgets players have to loiter by a door like an a hobos until the que pops.

Nighthawk? still robs banks if your mission journal is full and you run pass a bank in City Center.

I'd rather fight 5 endbringers at the same time than do that.

Early on in the game "Rescue the Researchers" always irked me. Basically it's a double mission for the reward of one. Rescue 5 researchers in warehouse, and then go down to the sewers and rescue five more.

Nothing bugged about it, it's not even remotely hard, just double the length of every other rescue mission.

Yeah, I hate that. It's not a particularly fun mission and the stupid prompt won't go away.

The looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong cutscene for Radioactive Ringleader.

The multiple, badly voiced cutscenes for Thick As Thieves.

I Choose You, Gadroon and Take You To Their Leader are a bit annoying because of the required gear changes.

PSI of Relief because the drop rate is just so inconsistent.

I don't go to Vibora Bay or Lemuria anymore, and I always skip the Monster Island crisis. I rarely do the Snake Gulch missions, and then never with a character that doesn't fly or teleport -- I usually pick Canada over the Desert anyway though.

That's a toss-up between all the Nemesis and UNITY stuff that forces you to head down into Lemuria.

No, wait, the ones where you have to find a cave in Undying Reef trump the others on account of how tedious that is.

No one is using the speech bubbles?

The items are in pre-determined locations. You basically have to memorize where each ingredient is; most of them have a node near the pot. Took me a few tries before I got all of that down.

Repeating it again and again for UNITY 2 runs gets a bit annoying though, even if you know where all the objects are located.

she's so annoying, and claims to be able to mind control you to check on the towers, even if you are playing as a mentalist who is more powerful than her on orders of magnitude.

also what if you don't NEED her mental support to take down menton? it's not like she's that powerful, and if she can put up a protective wall in your mind, some other mentalists should be able to do that themselves.

I take that as the game generalizing. Try a character who isn't remotely human and run Vibora Bay Apocalypse (Son of Adam or Daughter of Eve, my rear end!) and that speech in Aftershock #5 ("Humans are so frail..."). Or for that matter, breathing in Lemuria. Also, reminds me of a certain picture in the amusing picture thread involving Menton.

There are certain missions that provide alternate methods provided you have a certain thing (usually a specific crafting skill at or above a certain level). For something like mentalist powers, that's pretty vague and thus difficult to check for. It's the sort of stuff that's handled better with a live GM who can cater/adapt to such than in an autonomous computer game that tries to hit a broad spectrum. Even then, Menton is pretty much the most powerful mentalist in CO lore, so meh.
