I do not understand people saying archery is bad by any means.
Stack up tons of INT and use EGO/DEX as secondaries.
Take Quarry, Masterful Dodge R3, and Bountiful Chi Resurgence.
Take Archery 100ft powers and Concentration toggle.
Use Detect Vulnerability for defense penetration and..

I think this is the first time I've completely agreed with you on something (except maybe the ranks in Masterful Dodge).
The main reason people think Archery sucks for damage is because, to use the bits unique to archery (the snare on Storm of Arrows, the knockback on Torrent, the debuff on Straight Shot), you end up having to lower its damage.
That, and a lack of Trauma for PvP, but that's an entirely different can of worms.
If people just take Archery-type stuff with pure ranks (no special advantages), it can do quite well for damage. Except Focused Shot. Poor Focused Shot.
EDIT: Some of the advantages aren't bad. Like the knockback on Torrent of Arrows. Full charge, that power hits hard and I find the knock back is well worth it. I've yet to get my archer to have Storm of Arrows, but I've heard great things about it's Rooting advantage. Explosive Arrow's advantage is nice for in that the delayed explosion will do damage as if it was full charge even if you just tap the power. Straight Shot's advantage isn't all that worthwhile, I completely agree with going R3 there.
Some of the powers aren't great for damage though. If you are going for damage, skip Gas Arrow, Taser Arrow, Focused Shot. Gas and Taser Arrows could be good if you spec for holds and stuns, but for a damage dealer, just skip them and don't look back.
One suggestion I have is to consider Molecular Reassembly as an energy unlock instead of Hunter's Instinct. Archery has quite a few powers that have short cooldowns (plus if you take BCR or Conviction for self-healing)

Have to agree here. As a recently returned Lifetimer, and been away long enough to not know what the heck I'm doing, archery seems to have turned around into a very easy set to play. Unless I get stuck with a boss that has holds that I miss, I mow through just about everything with the Int/Ego/Dex setup.
