New powersets

Alright, people, I'm gonna say this as merely a suggestion, but I'm sure (most) people will agree.

Devs, you've done a decent job of giving us some new stuff powerwise (the Laser Sword powers are indeed nice) but I personally think it's high time that we got some new sets(or groupings) of powers altogether. For example, I'd certainly like to see a Plant or a Time Powerset put together.

You're doing well, but really... It's time.

    I could think of a few ideas for new powersets. In fact...

    Want to know what I think would be a really cool idea? A contest to come up with a new Archetype! I doubt that would happen, but I think it would be cool.

    Like you said, a Plant-based powerset would be awesome. I was going to make my superhero based on one I had come up with who was basically a nature guardian. Had mostly plant powers, but some animal-based powers as well. With a Plant archetype, and a Free Archetype slot, I could take powers from the Plant Archetype along with some of the melee class archetypes to make it. As for time... that would be a tricky one. Space/time powers would be epic, but would be kind of hard to both implement and balance (not that I know what I'm talking about, LOL)

    1) Sonic which is not from a gun or device...Damage focused, and stun based or some other passive effect. Perhaps a chance to confuse. We need more cool confuse powers. (With a passive that is not electricity based)

    2) Plant

    3) Magnetism (And no...Don't copy or reskin telekinis. We need a power that works)

    There is one person doing these powers, and one other person doing the effects when the first dev can pull the second away from other projects for a short while.

    Unfortunately, this pretty much limits us to getting a few choice powers rather then a full set. Giving more options really, rather then adding an entirely different tree which would be a fair chunk of work.

    Well, then, how about some elemental melee attacks to round out the various elemental sets? They don't even have to make all new animations, they can just add the appropriate visual effects (and, more importantly, damage type and secondary effects - applying Negative Ions, Chilled, Clinging Flames, etc, as appropriate) to existing animations from Might and/or Martial Arts.

    Really, though, I don't want to put any pressure on the (new?) dev team. The fact that we got any new powers at all is a big step up from how the game looked like it was going at the start of the year.

    I would love to see a Nature archetype. There could be a Plant mini-set of powers, and the AT could mix plant, primal, and bestial powers.

    Honestly, shinies are shiny but we're already heading(IMO) down a road of misbalanced powers ever since Cryptic implimented the second standard(The F2P Standard). This means that new powers must be balanced with the F2P Standard reguardless of which dev creates them and they will be more powerful than those powers created on the Launch Standard(with the exception of powers like 2GM which got a boost up to the F2P Standard). The original plan was, with the now defunct "Powerset Passes", to bump the Launch Standard powers up to the F2P Standard but, alas, this never came to pass.

    Although I fully understand that this is a mostly thankless and difficult task, with the addition of the enigmatic Cryptic North to the equation....I suggest that it's time to make this consolidation of standards a reality. In the end we can want things like elemental melee, fighting staves, and plants(which I would be for) but without this step it would(IMO) only increase the mess.

    Also, lotsa bugs in here to fix. They should be squashed ASAP as well.

    TL/DR: Fix the old before you ring in the new. :cool:

    Insane-O-suggestion: I know there isn't the manpower for this but lemme just put it out there real quick. I would like to see ALL powers undergo a white hit baseline adjustment to a new standard(The Rebirth Standard if I'm making up named, and I am) with AT LEAST a 25% nerf to EVERYTHING. This would bring underperforming powers up with OP ones and bring OP ones down with underperforming. Then, ramp up the mitigation/resists/whatever of the mobs in the game(this does not mean slap extra HP ontop for no reason). Of course, this would never happen but it's my lil dream. :biggrin:

    I would love to see a time based powerset, I loved the time set in CoH.

    Resurgence/Conviction/Snares. I loved the Time Set in CoH, but it can be replicated in CO easy enough. :p Unless we're talking about some sort of new Slotted Support Passive (Team +ENDRED/+CD?)

    I'd like to see Chainsaw expanded upon.

    Gatling Gun expanded upon.

    The Elemental Offensive Passives gain some Physical Damage resists.

    New animations for some of the older attacks. Or just changes in stance when using the abilities anyways.

    New animations for melee attacks and some energy fist attacks.

    I want a fencing mini set that stacks a defensive bonus, then ruptures it in a riposte style nuke attack.
    In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.

    Someone made an intersting point in COX chat about trying to do an Archon (Starcraft) style character. For this you would need a sort of 2 handed column maintain, he was gonna go with chain lightning for thematic reasons. However it's a nice thought, maybe a slightly beefed up version of Plasma Beam with a two handed animation?

    As for myself I thought back to the suggestion I made years ago for wingblade attacks and or tails. Of course these would need pre-requisite costume pieces but it's not beyond the engine and hey more costume sales = revenue right!

    It's pretty clear that with ToonTown closing this month we need a clown power set. Joy buzzer, squirt bottle, tickle feather, falling anvil, pie in the face. We've got clown costume pieces, now we just need the powers. :biggrin:

    Yeah, but if they did that, then there's a chance they'll bring C.L.O.W.N. back. Do we really want to risk having to fight Tee-Hee, the Car with a Mind of it's Own, as a boss battle?
