The Ultimate DPS Tank!

This is my new tank role toon, the cyberninja Scarab. He's a metahuman with the strength of a thousand men and a skilled martial artist but lacks durability (CON 73, as you can see only 7777 HP, hopefully a lucky number). To make up for it another hero fashioned this exquisite armored suit. Note the way the claws come out of his gauntlets.

I was rather surprised to achieve these damage numbers on Gravitar (and with the Laser Knight debuff too!):

Unleashed Rage 22K

Reaper's Embrace 27K (with 5 Bleeds Ruptured)

Tiger's Bite 18K

The key is 445 Strength and timing the above attacks after Setup and Finishing Blows. The total DPS over time (checked against Kigatilik for over 1 million damage) is 4K! (To be certain, use Shred then 1) Unleashed Rage if available, or 2) Reaper's Embrace if 4+ Bleeds, or 3) Tiger's Bite (and also use Tiger's Bite immediately after 1 or 2 without waiting for Setup again.)) And it would have been almost 10% higher if it was the third bar.

4K DPS for a tank role hero!!! That's more than some ranged/melee role builds. The Brawler spec tree was really key to this but it makes your toon very squishy which is what led me to try this in tank role.

The gear of course was top rate: 3x Vigilante (crit and HP), Legion Elusive and Utility, but I used a plain Heroic Precision with a Depleted Uranium Core (the 68 Offense added more damage than more crit %). Healing was provided by Necrullitic Elixirs and annoying minions are taken care of by a Neuroelectric Pulse Generator. Enjoy! :biggrin:

There is viable alternate build using Personal Force Field (Cyrone do you hear this?!) Laser Knight will protect the PFF before it takes damage. This build can solo Kigatilik but not against other opponents (i.e. the 4 wolves chews up this build.)

    In your Scarab build, not the PFF one, you have Reaper's Caress as a lvl 1 ability and Shred... I cannot have Reaper's Caress without an Energy Builder like Reaper's Touch. Can you clarify how you have Reaper's Caress as the Energy Builder? Also Unleashed Rage is lvl 35+ ability, and cannot be attained at lvl 6.

    Sorry, I must have misclicked wrong power in Powerhouse. Yes, it was supposed to be Reaper's Touch, thanks for catching that. Too many powers named Reaper there hehe.

    BTW, you can have Reaper's Caress without an energy builder as it is the starter power for Single Blade just like Shred is for Bestial.

    So do you play without an EB? Also I guess this is not for a levelling character huh?

    Well, it was pretty awesome fun tanking Gravitar on just 7,777 HP but I know when I am pushing my luck. After many hours of testing on Kigatilik, the following build does about 10% less DPS (3.7-3.8K DPS) but can now solo Gravitar without really sweating it (DPS numbers include the Laser Knight debuff).

    The mods are now just 1 Strength R7, 5 Constitution R7.

    One gear change was to Legion Piercing with 2 Gambler's Luck R7 (dropped Depleted Uranium Core so this is a much cheaper build too!)

    So with the loss of Dex PSS/Mastery and Expose Weakness, I made up for the damage by using Overpower to have a higher crit chance, including 100% when Ego Surge is running. Gone are the crazy impressive Unleashed Rage, Tiger Bite and Reaper's Embrace crits but more steady and stable DPS, plus 13,425 in HP.

    Would you really see that big of a difference in DPS if you replaced Overpower with Juggernaut?

    You have LockNLoad and Ego Surge with Legion Piercing w/ 2 LG's (I would also guess the +CRIT Vigilante Offensive Secondary Gear).

    It's an extra 9.4 percent crit at 110% severity so yes it helps. On the flip side, an extra 30% damage resist isn't significant in this build.

    With the same specializations, stats and gear the best I can get to with Might is around 3.2k in Tank role and 3.8k in Hybrid. My attack sequence is Charged Demolish -> Beatdown till Setup is triggered -> Charged Haymaker -> Beatdown till Setup is triggered -> Charged Haymaker, which seems as optimal as I can get. I think it comes down to Haymaker's poor DPS performance. Haymaker crits for just under 19k max with this setup, and it takes a full second longer to fire off.

    I've been getting frustrated with the difficulty in getting a full Might setup to reach comparable numbers to other frameworks. There aren't enough controlled knocks to trigger Enrage, energy management is a serious issue (especially when not using Defiance, so using any offensive passive), and the long charge times really hamstring the DPS.

    If you have any time and interest in playing around with Might to see what you can do with it MD, I'd love to see what you're able to come up with. I suspect you'd have more success than I have.

    Very nice, Those are very difficult to get :D I suppose I don't play enough to get that kind of money.

    Is there any way this build can be modified as a Levelling one at least until one can be respecced into the one you have now? That Unleashed Rage is the one power that makes all others available, yet it's the one thing I can't get until lvl 35... Is there something I can replace it with until lvl 35 and just build the build the way it looks minus the Unleashed Rage?

    Well I can possibly try your older build, updated on 8-31-13, and use that til lvl 35, and respec into your more effective one. :D I suppose that will be my best option since aside from Shred, Pounce is the only ability I can take at lvl 6 with the current set-up.
