Ranking forms will ensure they build up 8 stacks faster e.g. R2 aspect of infernal will gain you 2 stacks of concentration instead of just one every time you poison someone. Also you will have 2 stacks instead of just one to start off with. And so on with rank 3.
I personally like to have my form at R2 but I maybe a minority, many have said don't bother ranking forms.
Rank it to two if you're happy spending the points but no further.
What's your passive btw? If you have an offensive passive then this is less of a priority, with a defensive passive it might be worth getting your kill power up a bit sooner.

I personally find the only Forms worth ranking are the ones where the rank increases the strength of the form and not just a "I have more stacks now." So that'd be IDF or Mental Discipline. My reasoning is that I usually build stacks of Focus/Enrage/Concentration very quickly anyhow.
I also tend not to rank up Defiance for the same reason. Stacks build quick, though I can see it being worthwhile to have more stacks of Defiant at the start of a fight.

Um... No.
Ranking up a Form increases the number of stacks you reset to when you leave combat. You always* get one stack of the buff at a time with a 4sec cooldown between gaining stacks.
*Form of the Tempest gives a 20% chance to give a bonus stack at R2, and a 40% chance at R3. Also, most Forms can give multiple stacks if you fulfill their requirements multiple times simultaneously, though this is probably a bug.
And of course, IDF is the exception; it has no stacks. Ranking it up increases its Damage Reduction instead.

Yeah, I just went through th list of forms, and there are more than I thought that can give extra stacks when you rank them up. But not all! So I'll echo the "Check your form before ranking it", because some really aren't worth it.

Imo: Sure if you're crunching the min/max #'s for pvp. Other than that, unless it's increasing the strength of the form, what's the point - PvE wise.
Unless you built a complete faceplant toon from day 1, it's not needed to waste the 4 points doing so. However, as one poster mentioned, if you got the points and nothing to spend them on then pull the trigger.
Depending on your build, it's easy to get your form stacks to max out very quickly in combat. That's my experience with Enrage, Form of the Tempest and Concentration. To me it's a waste of advantage points to invest into ranking up forms when they could be used for other powers. Then again it depends on build. If you got nothing else worth to rank up and have unused advantage points lying around, then go ahead and rank them up.
In the case of MA forms like Form of the Tempest though, it may prove useful to rank it up for the chance of building additional stacks for more energy gains if your build runs out of energy too quickly. In FotM's case, if your build is crit-heavy, then this can work.

I thought if the 'gain multiple stacks' perk of a higher Rank in FotT triggered, you still only gained energy once.
So IMHO, ranking Forms (Form of the X, Concentration, etc) are rarely ever worth it (one exception is IDF if you go that route). Your Passive however you almost always want to raise to Rank 3.

Actually you're right, the energy gain is limited once every four seconds according to the description, so gaining additional stacks within the downtime shouldn't give extra energy gains. Forget what I said then. Thanks.
it depends whether they have fixed aspect of the bestial/infernal. One of the two had rank 1 gives the correct buffs, rank 2 & 3 gives the old buffs which are a lower amount

My passive is Fiery Form. That's interesting though. I may just rank it to 2. Thanks for the info.

You generally always want to rank passives as they provide very good boosts.
Toggle forms however, can be left unranked if wished.
Deliciously nutritious!
