Fatal Error's pretty cool

sekimensekimen Posts: 297 Arc User
I played twice through it today and I'd like to say a few positive things:
  • I love the new environment and the general feel of the instance. I know it's just moving down a long corridor to beat up mobs, but it still felt like "Virtual Reality" as pop culture dictates it. The cube mobs really cheered me up.
  • Skull difficulty! Thank you for not scaling us down :)
  • The cutscenes were nice, the short chats with the Champions gave me a chuckle... It generally felt well put together. Nothing amazing, but it had heart and helped the atmosphere, so thumbs up from me

I won't criticize the "just go from point A to B beating up mobs", because as it is right now, I think it's a decent introduction mission. Just please make sure to mix it up a bit in future installments of this arc and this might be my favorite of the "temporary" content.

As I've always said, for boss battles, please look at the non-Vlad encounters in Therakiel's Temple for inspiration. Those are some of the best fights in this game. Also, since it's virtual reality, this is the perfect opportunity to use our Nemeses again as virtual "optimal countermeasures" or something.

EDIT: Also, invisible spider monster wasn't much of a battle, but it was pretty damn freaky looking.

played it, liked it. new art assets are a rare treat, the powers look good, and its perm, and it feels right for a tech/robotic character. i also liked the personality of the chats with the characters, co gets dinged for being too campy, and i can see it at times, but this time the jokes were short, to the point, and hit the right characterizations. it felt better. overall, its a positive step. it will have to be the first step of a process but its going the correct direction. now lets talk new costumes that are not in the lockboxes. but em in the store, i bought the emote pack, my money is in my mouth...ok that metaphor is one you do not want to do literally...blehh.

i did notice 2 things that annoyed a bit, the enemies all flying reminds me of lemuria, melee can be annoying, i did it with my martial arts framework guy, and it was not hard, per se but it was a little annoying to have to track down the guy i popped into the air with the sweep kick who decided to just hang there and shoot. also the spider constantly spawning guys got a little irritating. also not impossible but annoying.

now, can we get one in the "world" where we fight hi-pan in the alert? that one is amazing.

Edit, sorry got the wrong directional pan.

Your Google Fu has failed you, young Padawan. He's running around Donkey Kong Country, riding a mine cart, when he's not in Super Smash Bros.

It's a well designed mission. Reminds me of the Champions back in 2011 for design quality, which is nice.

    Major pro's?

    CONSISTENT art theme.

Even the powers used by the foes match the "digital world" art theme. An nice detail touch.

Major work on redesigning models, and making new costume unlocks to boost sales (even if they are unfortunately behind lockboxes)

    Release of new emotes!

Lots and lots of good stuff came out with this patch, and best of all? THEY DIDN'T BREAK THE GAME WITH A CATASTROPHIC GLITCH! I mean, it's sooo nice to have a new content patch that didn't actually break other content (or level us down from 40 to 1)

There's only two criticisms I can offer for room for improvement:

    1. Mob spawns do NOT scale up for a full 5-person team. It should. Elite works correctly, but the spawn sizes do no scale up to epic levels, like they really should.

    2. A bit TOO linear, just point-A-to-point-B. Much of Champions is like this, but I'd like to see more of stuff like where you have choices and different choices give different results. Would improve replay value too, which is a win-win for devs and players.

Step in the right direction....though could use some ambient background noise/music.

Yeah the work done by Spirals on the audio for Whiteout was excellent, kind of miss having him on the team...

I'd like to tell myself that it was, because then I know that they're doing what we were told they would.

I thought it was great too, but largely because it's the opening salvo for something more. For now:

    - great portrayals of the Champions, way to use them in a fun way
    - great voice acting from Dr. Silverback and SOCRATES, finally a voice to the face
    - the virus is a Blackredder! Like SOCRATES saw so many Blackredder costumes she broke

But like I said, it's because this looks like the opening salvo for something more. It's like it's a simple mission because the Devs had to take time doing all the art assets. So this was just the appetizer while they cook up the main course. Looking forward to what's next.

Its default 'heard this twenty thousands times' music.

And apparently there is some kind of 'ewyaewyewya" noise.

I like it. It's pretty cool. Someone said it seems to be a nod to Tron or something of the likes. Got me wanting to go and see what this Tron thing is about.

I get the Tron feel and like the binary numbers on the defeat of the enemies. Anyone else old enough to think Automan when the bad bits started floating into attack? Ah terrible 80s television.

Nope. The mission is generally inside the carrier. You fight robots, throw switches, and have a showdown with Cyberlord.

No. He's going to be jumping on the walls and making cartwheels while singing Kumbayah.
He wasn't tough opponent in Whiteout as a main villain, why he should be any different as an "decoy".

Cyberlord is a miniboss, nothing more, nothing less.
He isn't Legendary or Cosmic or anything--just a run-of-the-mill supervillain.

In fact, Cyberlord's status as a second-stringer is a significant plot point in the story.
