Emotes Return Thursday

We've tested enough to comfortable with the fix. Emotes will be reactivated on Thursday along with the first FATAL ERR0R mission, and at least one special surprise.

Thanks everyone for your patience with this one. We know it was rough having emotes knocked out for a while, so we put together a little something -- nothing too dramatic, but a nice little bonus for everyone who's been so patient with us.

-If you want to get your, er, "Militant Youth" on, we've added a looping version of the Superdance: /emote Superdance01_Loop.

-Get Bad like a Smooth Criminal with the Spacewalk! We've added a looping version (/emote Spacewalk_Loop) of the walk, and an emote that goes directly into the spin (/emote Spacewalk_Spin).

All three of these emotes will be available for everyone, for free, after maintenance on Thursday. You can try them out on PTS right now, if you'd like. We'd like to thank you all again for your patience, especially our wonderful RP community.

Special surprise, not secret. I believe he was talking about the three new emotes listed in the post.

Although he did say "at least one" surprise, so maybe there's more?

    1. Glad to see the bug has had a fix. I like bug fixes, keep it up! (hope it works this time)

    2. New emotes? Sweet!

    3. An unfulfilled goal you set yourself, TrailTurtle: http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=209251 Any chance any of that is coming? I'd even be happy with some basic existing ones like the "thoughful" emote you doing in the FATAL ERR0R first cutscene when Dr. Silverback is briefing you. And remember, people WERE willing to buy these (pay Zen for them).

You shouldn't have said that. Now, the next special surprise will be an Emote Lockbox, with a negligible chance of actually getting an emote, much less the one you actually want.

Probably. But judging from previous release schedules, probably not with this week's patch.

Am I the only one who thinks they should call this "Surprise Vulcan Crossover Week" and give us the STO Live Long and Prosper emote? Just me? OK. (Probably a licensing problem anyway.)

Please tell me they got rid of the "X character is doing Y emote" chat spam as well. I don't want my characters saying "Sssssssssss" when doing dance_snake because, well... it's stupid. I don't want to read "X character sits in a chair" when I use sitchair... because I CAN SEE THEY ARE SITTING!!! We don't need a message telling us that we're having our characters doing something that we initiated through the emote system. It's GREAT... if this was a text-based game (read: no graphics at all, like Zork or the original Simutronics games on Genie and AOL back in the day), but in a graphically-based game, they are unneeded and an unwarranted resource hog, as evident by the breaking of whole zones because of the resources being exploited by said system.

Thanks for the new looping feature on some of the emotes... but I really hope that /e airguitar and /e formal_bow are activated as well

And for the person who asked about selling emotes; they used to do that, but PWE said it wasn't worth it and they were pulled from the Z-Store. That's why new STO players can never unlock the /e airguitar, /e dance_jester, /e khaaaan (this was a pre-order bonus that was sold later) and /e bloodwine emotes.

Personally, I think all emotes should be available to all Cryptic games, as long as they make sense (like /e airguitar shouldn't be in NW because it doesn't make sense, just like the Vulcan Salute would not make sense in CO), since all of the games are SUPPOSEDLY built on the same game engine to ensure consistent system structure.

Last I recall, emotes do not display text while no player is targeted.

And yes, almost all emotes work cross-game. They won't admit it, but people like me...know.

    Something is coming shortly. ;)

While I do agree that the chat thing is a bit annoying at times (especially when it's used excessively by trolls), it's handy for emotes from a distance, like someone waving at you passing by or beckoning you over. It's used in costume contests to congratulate winners as well. If I happen to be focused on something else or even afk, I won't know that anyone has acknowledged me without the text cues. I don't RP as much as I used to, but if you don't want to see the text, then simply don't target another player. Problem solved :)

Or disable emotes on the chat settings, but sadly people use /e *types in whole paragraph of emote here*

I bet many who do that while emotes been disabled have been furious to change how they RP. Good thing I learned to use * * or { } for when my character does something.

THANK GOD! CO really became a bit dull w/o any emotes. So glad that there are other new modifications as well.

I hope the surprise are new emotes or the Air Guitar emote! XD

Another way to make silent emotes while targeting someone is this:

    /bind ' startchatwith "/emote_notext "

Whenever you press ' (next to enter key) your chatbox will already be filled with /emote_notext and a single space, and you can complete it with your emote.

Yeah. As mentioned, you don't 'say' anything in the emote window without someone targeted in CO, and unlike STO, a lot of emotes are just 'silent' as it is.

STO though...yeah, that 'dance party' is just a mess. Especially since you can't turn off the spam.

Thanks for the clear timeline, that's great. And let's be honest, it wasn't a big deal.

We couldn't dance for a week...but now we get new dance moves. Capital.

But what impressed me most was the Devs and TT drew a line and stood by it.

You said 1 week, we're still within that 1 week, well done.
