Supernatural Infernal Build Critique

Hey guys.. back on to CO after a fairly lengthy time away.

Currently having a lot of fun with my Supernatural Infernal character "Skittle" (yes.. the sweets, rather than the game). Have a build here that I'd like to offer for your consideration.

Her concept revolves around a teenager who absolutely loves the popular E number rich sweets so much and her unique DNA gives her rainbow powers! (*ahem*). Originally made her as a fire / rad corruptor in City of Heroes, but quite like the infernal set. At the moment, she's in a ranged DPS mode using Aspect of the Infernal and Pestilence, which while great gives me a little too many cosmetic effects to her look which I'd quite like to get rid of, if at all possible.

For the same reason, I'm not including DE, but if there's an equivalent, conceptually suitable ranged self heal, I'm certainly open to suggestions.

Additionally, this will be largely solo PVE, but any additional utility that would be suitable / useful in a grouped environment would also be gratefully received.

    Lifedrain, from the Darkness set.

In regards to appearance : go pss dex and drop aspect for form of the tempest. Or drop pestilence for ice form. Ice form buffs toxic damage like pestilence, actually more, just no dot. Ice form doesn't have as busy a visual.

Just saw you have enrage. That works with str so drop that for aspect if you are staying ego.

Cool thanks for that. I've just seen that I've included Concentration in there as well, which fulfills the same role as Enrage anyway. Best off dropping Enrage, taking concentration earlier, replacing Pestilence with Ice Form and sticking something else in.

Will have a play tonight and post a revised build :)

As for Dex as a PSS, in real terms what tends to work better? Having high ego to ensure high ranged damage, or more dex to increase Crit frequency? Does there come a point where even though the base damage is lower, the DPS is higher because you're critting more often?

All other things being equal, high Crit % and Severity is much better than high Ego (or Strength for melee). Diminishing returns hit Ego/Strength hard after 70, and the bonus isn't a huge difference maker to begin with because of when/how it is factored into your actual damage.

However, all other things usually aren't equal! Ego and Dexterity both have good spec trees, but you may prefer one over another. And there are ways of having your cake and eating it, too--take Ego, and add Crit chance through gear (easy to do); take Dexterity, and get Ego to 70 through talents/gear (also easy to do). Of course, you can also go the pure Critmonster route, and PSS Ego/SSS Dexterity to rack up some truly absurd numbers, but that will make you squishier and doesn't seem to be the intention of this build.

Personally, I generally tend to stick to Ego for ranged toons and Dexterity for melee. Since your powers are predominantly ranged, I would go with Ego. You can keep Concentration (no visuals, scales off of your PSS, bigger bonus for ranged attacks, easy to build stacks), take the Ego spec that boosts Crit Severity (I would also recommend taking the Severity boosters in both of your other spec trees), and then gear for more + Crit %.

Ego would be a little better whith level 40 and full Silver Champs gear, however for leveling
i always prefer DEX with Form of the Tempest.

Very useful info in there jonesing, thank you. With what I have at the moment in terms of stats, talents and gear, even though she's only lvl 18, her Ego is around 75 which means that I'll be able to round out things like Int, End and of course Dex to ultimately make things more effective.

Tweaked build incoming! Loving all the info here guys.. thanks loads!

If you are going for a defensive passive id go invulnerability. Much easier for pve solo. You may consider aura of primal majesty with dex /int /con and form of the tempest. Drop lifedrain add devour essence and wtfpwnbbq everything. I consistently pull aggro and end up tanking every alert without an issue with that setup. Plus you can get 70 str and ego.

Nah, definitely don't want DE. And I thought Form of the Tempest only affected melee damage?

Ended up leaving pestilence in, as the animations only (at least appear) to effect the enemies, so there's no cosmetic issues and I swapped out the Redemption Denied advantage in Condemn for the rank 3 upgrade, given that it's just as easy to kill something with this set up as it is to paralyze it for 10 seconds. Very pleased with it so far. Just tears through things without breaking a sweat.

The only slight problem is that sometimes Condemn doesn't fire when I charge it, because the DoT on its target from pestilence has already killed it :\

I took jonesings advice re the stats too. At level 20, Ego is at 75, Dex is at 80 and I've taken as many crit buff advantages as have been available. Crits all over the place thanks to the DoT ticks from pestilence. I'll be bumping the difficulty up, because it's almost too easy!

Focus (the buff from all martial arts forms) scales off dex and boosts melee damage, and gives ranged damage half the buff that melee gets.

Concentration likewise gives a half-strength buff to melee. Not sure about other forms.

Manipulator gives the full bonus to hold strength, half bonus to damage; Compassion gives the full bonus to healing, half bonus to damage.

Glad I could help, steelrat, hope the toon's making good progress!
