Ok...let me explain this rant...and i shall start with 1 fact. That is i'm not very tall in real life, I am a shade over 5 ft (and i mean a shade) so im pretty little. If someone came up to me and said 'greetings little one' i would probably punch them in the goolies, coz that about all i could reach. I've noticed that 'little one' is used a lot. Well imagine if you said that to someone with dwarfism...its kinda rude really. Its like going up to a fat person and saying 'greetings lard arse' or someone with no legs and saying 'greetings mr low-down-bum'.

I think its annoying to call anyone that. Regardless of size.

Its not sweet or endearing. Its a euphemism and as such should ONLY be reserved for people you know well, and are comfortable saying it too and having it said too.

Any euphemism, directed a perfect stranger, is often grounds for a justifiable swift kick in the jumblies.

Coming from an old, wise wizard/dragon/other nigh-immortal thing I can understand.

But if some random person who does not fit the above descriptions waltzes up and calls me 'little one'... well, I'm going to ignore it because I'm nonconfrontational. :(

If it was a particularly tall character greeting a very small charachter i could maybe see it.

A more likely candidate for using it as a greeting would be some one RPing a Thor like character maybe a accent giant or something.

Unless it's ^that up thur^, calling any grown being "little one" does come off as a bit offensive.

I can totally understand if they were referring to a child/youth, though. :o

It is, but it is also a RP game, they are not telling it to you, they are telling it to the character, and that person is RPing a rude and arrogant character, and it does not mean the player is rude and arrogant. So it is perfectly valid to RP a bad person, it comes to you how to react in character to the offense.

Considering most people who play rude arrogant immortal characters that go around talking down to people are barely literate, it doesn't bother me.
