Ok...let me explain.
I've noticed a huge increase in rped toons 'blinking' at pretty much anything while rping. For example
*inset name here* blinked a few times before saying...'blah blah blah'.
Now, dont get me wrong, blinking is something that we all do...but when it is mentioned every bloody sentence then it makes your toon look like they have a nervous twitch. Whats next s.s.s.stammering?
Guys, stop this incessant blinking. Its makes you look 'special' and not in a good way

But if you do it enough, it's like your own personal strobe light and the WORLD IS YOUR RAVE.
We call that the Harlem Shake.
I think they do it to look 'cute' but people, really? I mean...REALLY?
Are people cute when they blink to many times? no no no no no. They look r e tar..ded (the forum blocks the word i tried to type by the way, so its a little 'split up' blinks blinks
I demand moderator to shut this thread down IMMEDIATELY, as my delicate feelings are assaulted with this blatant show of disrespect for tastes of other players!
How you dare!!! *cries*
Ok, now seriously:
Deathlark blinks often because it's only machine pretending to be human. She must remember to blink, can't do it at random intervals like real humans do.
She got better, anyway. Month ago her uncanny valley factor was even higher. :X
Anyway, robots aside - blink-blink-blink thing is another implement from anime, where it's supposed to be yet another "cute" expression of shock or being surprised, or embarassed.
But I'm not even going into anime influences in CO playerbase, because:
1. - I don't want to turn this topic into flame war when someone feels offended (we know that some fandoms can't stand NOT being always liked).
2. - I don't want to be simply rude, and I can be very rude talking about anime. Lol.
So I'll be civil and leave it alone.
'Come on guys (or more likely guys pretending to be girls) come and get me! Im after naughty chat coz im a cat girl with something wrong with my eyes...im soooo SEXEH!!!!!'
woooooooooooo meow blink blink

You make me go gooey
A good gynecologist can get you treatment for that.
In all seriousness, the anime argument was exactly what I was thinking. I've also seen it used as filler when someone feels the need to type out SOMETHING in a response to something that has happened, but can't bring themselves to say "-Insert character name here- is at a loss for words" or "-Insert character name here- stares blankly", which appears to me to be the type of reaction they think *blinks repeatedly* is synonymous with.

You know, when I think of "shocked expression" anime style, the following immediately come to mind:
I've watched more than a few anime shows in my lifetime and the common shocked expression has always been one of these templates more or less. I never once saw a "blink-blink-blink" expression as something of an implement from anime.
Not like I can recognise for what each animu expression is. Shock or not, animu mimics is the same nonsense for me. Those characters don't have any real one, anyway.
But it's pretty common especially for younger characters, to simply blink-blink-blink and then speak. Or only stare blinking. For whatever reason those things are doing it.
As for what this expression is - it may be as well for whatever. I can barely stand animu and I'm really not interested in what kind of shallow characterisation is there.
Inbefore you will start defending animu or whatever - people have rights to not like things and I will ignore any argument for animu anyway, so spare yourself time and don't even start. Pointless.

Yeah okay. Sure. It's fine that you don't like anime, I just wanted to point out the inaccuracies of your claims.
If I have a pet peeve about chat RP, it's thought balloons. How can anyone in a conversation know what they other person is thinking with that clarity? I prefer a description of a change in pose, some outward expression of the thought. Let it spark more conversation.
