Noob needs vet feedback for first build: Con tank with a chainsaw.

Missing CoX, I've just resubscribed to Champions again for the first time since the rather disappointing release, and happy to see so much complexity in character design has been added. I've been doing my homework, reading the forum and wiki, and think I have a decent grasp of the mechanics now, but would like some confirmation from experienced players that I'm on the right track with this build.

The goal is a tank for endgame teaming, who meanwhile can solo tour all this new-to-me content while leveling, plus put up a fair fight in PvP.

Protector: Bulwark (2/2)

I'm enthusiastic about my concept/powers, but if there are any minor changes that would be a major improvement, or if I seem to be misunderstanding some mechanics and these powers don't have the synergy I think they do, I'm all ears.

Specifically I'm wondering whether Sonic Device (with AOE advantage) is the right booster for Chainsaw, or whether it would be better served by Imbue (Con scaling), or Toxic Nanites, or Mini-Drive (I am trying hard not to be biased by the cool growth thing).

I know the chainsaw is a energy hog, but between Rec secondary and Defiance and Overdrive, have I compensated enough for that?

You've got a few powers I'm not familiar with, so I'm going to ignore those.

-Enrage: Ranking up most Forms isn't that useful. All it does is increase the number of stacks you reset to when not in combat; none if its other effects are improved. Tapping a chargeable knock (like Haymaker) will stack your Enrage much faster. Also, see my comment on Aggressor.

-Aggressor: Not ranking up your Active Offense should be a crime. It increases the damage buff and the duration (Usually. Some AOs don't get a duration buff), and improves most secondary effects. For Aggressor, this boosts the bonus Str (MOAR damage) and Con (More HP, so it's almost like a mini Active Defense), plus it adds one stack of Enrage per rank - handy for when you need Enrage stacks NOW, or when you need the shot of Energy gaining stacks gives you.

    -Specs
-Tough and Bulwark: You've got Con as a primary super stat. If you're running in Tank role, you already get bonus HP, so that's just overkill. If you're running in Hybrid, the extra hp and threat are useful. I'd spend the points elsewhere if you plan on using the Tank role.
-Resilient: You already get Knock resistance from Strength. Put the points in Unyielding to add some Hold Resist.

You're stacking a LOT of Defense between Defiance and Specs. Enough that you're likely well into Diminishing Returns. I personally like combining Invulnerability (for the flat damage reduction) With Defense from Specs and Dodge and Avoid from gear. Getting some Heal over Time (like the Endorphin Rush and Quick Recovery you already have) makes you even tougher.

If you feel it fits your theme, consider dropping Conviction and taking Devour Essence (from Infernal Supernatural). It's a good self heal, with no cooldown. It's both an attack and a heal, so it generates more threat than a power that is only one or the other. Plus, it can take Crippling Challenge (again, no recharge, unlike your current CC power). A Tank (or Hybrid with Bulwark) using this power will only lose aggro to extreme DPS. And you can move while Maintaining the power, so you can keep the target in range if they move.

I don't PVP at all, so my advice is PVE only. Hopefully someone else can fill in PVP comments.

Hm .. MSA without INT is not that great, and since Chainsaw is quite energy hungry i would maybe still take REC as Superstat and Overdrive for Energy Return.

Else i would also say DEX as Primary Superstat with Form of the Tempest, and then its your choice if you really need STR or better take CON.

The tips above however are only for Chainsaw use. I never was a big Might Fan and would else maybe take Sword Cyclone or Eye of the Storm as AoE

And no .. DON'T take Devour Essence, else you will at some point only use it instead of your Chainsaw, since it does nearly the same damage for less energy and also heals you

    PvP advice guy here.

Unless you invest in Strength, and get the right specializations and stuff, and you also have several thousand globals to spend on gear, and take mona's and bunny's advice, I wouldn't suggest PvP at all.

It's become a breeding ground for select powerful builds engineered to win and not to have fun. I know you read that about like, all PvP, but you don't have to take my word for it, go ahead and hop in, be countered by people cycling and maintaining complete invulnerability.

I'd rather get STO's level of lockbox suck if worthwhile updates come with it. -Buxom
