Done right, I think a Foundry would give Cryptic what it needs to sustain interest until they can do a new zone, or something else really newsworthy. If they DON'T do a foundry, then I expect more than I've been getting this last year.
I've used the Foundry on NWO and its not even done right there. Its missing a LOT of what truly custom content needs. Especially not being able to make your own mobs' skill sets and not being able to make cut scenes.
If we get it here, here's hoping Cryptic North has the intuition to make it more grand than what STO and NWO got.
Actually, I think that lack of cutscenes would be a quality.
Honestly, I want to never see ANY cutscenes in CO. Ever. Terribad art direction terrorising players with glitches, cheesy animations and godawful voice acting. Better to have no cutscenes.
Truth be told, I do not believe if we will ever see any real content, but one can dream.
Hate to be a party braker, but from we saw to this day, there will be no Foundry, new zones, lairs, or whatnot. We're lucky that this game still stays afloat.
And since CO slowly starts to be a dated game, it's very unikely that anone will ever release it from Cryptic's clutches - it's not very appealing as a purchase.
It is really the egg now or the hen later. Considering the we don't see many eggs now and those few that we see are not much...the foundry no doubt.
There is no egg. Sadly no chicken either.
Time and again, for years, we have asked for the foundry. Used to happen with greater frequency when it was discussed as a "maybe".
Like new zones.
The gear update that would lead to a level increase.
Hideout features.
The sentiment that if we invested in the first round of vehicles our faith would be rewarded with further customization and functionality later.
Jesus H, do any of you EVEN REMEMBER WHEN THEY BRIEFLY ENTERTAINED THE NOTION OF ACTUALLY DRAINING LEMURIA AND REVAMPING IT?!
It's like some super villain is injecting people with amnesia for pete's sake.
"Cryptic North can save CO!"
@!#@!$#!$#!4 ?!
2 other games read that same announcement, and will likely expect to see some benefit, and people here interpret it as "brand new CO team!".
This is getting tiresome. There is no reason the higher ups shouldn't talk here: they do in other Cryptic games.
The future is discussed in other cryptic games, but here? Not anymore.
The other forums are much more concrete in what they ask for and what they will tolerate. Granted, a lot of them put on Vulcan ears and attend conventions while feverishly making a slightly adjusted "peace" symbol spouting all kinds of lore, and people laugh at them. PEOPLE CAN LAUGH AWAY , THE GAME THEY PAY FOR HAS UPDATES CONTENT AND COMMUNICATION.
I don't think they hear the laughter so much now THAT THEY ARE GETTING LOTS OF THINGS TO DO AND EVERYTHING THAT WAS IMPLIED TO BE IN DEVELOPMENT DIDN'T TURN INTO ******N VAPORWARE.
Get mean or give up. Cryptic is not your friend. They are a business. Every business is accountable to it's customers.
Until the customers stop holding the business accountable.
Seriously now, our last discussion of improved communication went like this (and nobody said a ******n thing or called anyone to account):
Cryptic : We hear you, and yes communication needs improvement. We will be having a meeting on how to better communicate.
Cryptic: cannot follow through yet offers this: We were gonna have a meeting, but some shareholders (sorry, but really? REALLY?) couldn't make it so we have postponed it.
Cryptic: As a result of the meeting, we have determined that these forums have less functionality than the old ones! Great progress!
Cryptic: In regards to our meeting and comments that it may not have happened or that some random forum board mechanic was used as an excuse to simulate a meeting, we want you to know that people did ask about that mechanic! (they didn't.)
It gets weirder here:
Cryptic: Forums were not all we talked about! We discussed many good ideas, but need ways to get these ideas into the pipeline. We want to use the right words this time to better talk about ideas! Be patient!-
Pretending like words issued from CO devs need some kind of RIDICULOUS ROSETTA STONE TYPE DECRYPTION. Nonsense. Either there was no meeting or whatever was discussed was not worth mentioning.
tldr they stall you lose. They stall they make money and you still lose.
Maybe I'm alone here but as a customer I'm perplexed as to why the few customers the staff actually interact with have made excuses and moved goalposts for years now INSTEAD OF INSISTING ON SOME ******N RESPECT AND COMMON COURTESY.
There is no egg. Sadly no chicken either... (Spot-on epic rant about Cryptic's communication incompetence follows.)
Let's not forget that:
1: Neither Cryptic main nor Cryptic North has made an announcement on the CO website or forums, even though CNorth's focus is supposed to be "polishing" this game. (Hell, we still haven't been told what "polishing" means yet.)
2: Nobody from Cryptic has ever apologized to CO players for the studio-wide outages that started with Neverwinter's open beta launch. STO and NW got apologies and explanations, we got ignored because I guess nobody at Cryptic knew what to do with us while TT was on vacation.
I don't know about you, but I'm insulted by that.
Let's face it. Whether it's a deliberate choice by Cryptic management or the de facto result of a year of neglect, it is the official policy of Cryptic Studios to refuse all substantive communications with the Champions Online community.
(No, that farce of an Ask Cryptic in February doesn't count as substantive. Neither does a "Make LordGar's Costume For Him" contest.)
It is now over one year since our last State of the Game. June 15th was the anniversary. No more delays, no more excuses. We are far beyond the point of justifying them any more. #StateOfTheGameNOW
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends
Actually, I think that lack of cutscenes would be a quality.
Honestly, I want to never see ANY cutscenes in CO. Ever. Terribad art direction terrorising players with glitches, cheesy animations and godawful voice acting. Better to have no cutscenes.
I want the option to make cut scenes regardless. If you don't want to play the Foundry mission that has all the cut scenes, you'll have plenty of other ones that may not have cut scenes. Its your choice to play the content that had less work put into it.
Besides, the cut scenes I want to make are of less talking and more entertainment value. Think of how uninteresting Resistance would be without cut scenes or the omittance of Therakiel's epic speech. The game would be dry.

Indeed.
A guess a label that points out those with cutscenes and those without should suffice.
And me personally I like the cutscenes in Resistance. It actually, to me, adds to the story.
Now the cut scenes in the purple gang mission with defender could have been left out and I wouldnt have missed them one single bit. A statement in Kodiak mission text that says that Defender will come into the back door and you have to let him in or something of the likes would have sufficed for me.
2: Nobody from Cryptic has ever apologized to CO players for the studio-wide outages that started with Neverwinter's open beta launch. STO and NW got apologies and explanations, we got ignored because I guess nobody at Cryptic knew what to do with us while TT was on vacation.
There is some precedent for oversights like this, like when Cryptic staff had to physically leave the building for..I wanna say 48 hours but maybe only 24...anyway STO was notified and we were not.
I'd love to say it's insulting, I have a different take. To me insulting implies that they care in some fashion.
At any rate it feels good to be reminded every now and again that what is happening here is not lost in a TM(Foxbat-neural-selective-imaging-device).
I fear that someone doesn't understand what is the issue here :it is not the foundry or the new content because even if you say :
" no to the foundry and give me wonderful super new content and updates "
you are not going to get it simply things would remain like they are now. To think otherwise would be to be magic thinking,I. E. : I do this and automatically they will do that. That is not like it works in real life.
We need the foundry because that way we will create our own new content no matter what the devs ,Cryptic, or PWE would do
.
There would be no longer any excuse or futile whining : You don't like the new event or there are no new event at all? Go to the foundry and create yourself a story how you like it.
With the foundry CO will live or die because what the players would do
There has been a Facebook post for Neverwinter and for STO regarding morning maintenance, today. I'm assuming that means the same for this game. Anyone seen any kind of announcement for that?
The stages, popularly known by the acronym DABDA, include:[2]
Denial ? "I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to me."
Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of possessions and individuals that will be left behind after death. Denial can be conscious or unconscious refusal to accept facts, information, or the reality of the situation. Denial is a defense mechanism and some people can become locked in this stage.
Anger ? "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"
Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Anger can manifest itself in different ways. People can be angry with themselves, or with others, and especially those who are close to them. It is important to remain detached and nonjudgmental when dealing with a person experiencing anger from grief.
Bargaining ? "I'll do anything for a few more years."; "I will give my life savings if..."
The third stage involves the hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, "I understand I will die, but if I could just do something to buy more time..." People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek to negotiate a compromise. For example "Can we still be friends?.." when facing a break-up. Bargaining rarely provides a sustainable solution, especially if it's a matter of life or death.
Depression ? "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; "I'm going to die soon so what's the point?"; "I miss my loved one, why go on?"
During the fourth stage, the dying person begins to understand the certainty of death. Because of this, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying and grieving. This process allows the dying person to disconnect from things of love and affection. It is not recommended to attempt to cheer up an individual who is in this stage. It is an important time for grieving that must be processed. Depression could be referred to as the dress rehearsal for the 'aftermath'. It is a kind of acceptance with emotional attachment. It's natural to feel sadness, regret, fear, and uncertainty when going through this stage. Feeling those emotions shows that the person has begun to accept the situation.
Acceptance ? "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it."
In this last stage, individuals begin to come to terms with their mortality, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. This stage varies according to the person's situation. People dying can enter this stage a long time before the people they leave behind, who must pass through their own individual stages of dealing with the grief.
K?bler-Ross originally applied these stages to people suffering from terminal illness. She later expanded this theoretical model to apply to any form of catastrophic personal loss (job, income, freedom). Such losses may also include significant life events such as the death of a loved one, major rejection, end of a relationship or divorce, drug addiction, incarceration, the onset of a disease or chronic illness, an infertility diagnosis, as well as many tragedies and disasters.
Campaign: The Fenwick Cycle NWS-DKR9GB7KH
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?
Honestly what have the last posts to do with the question of the OP :
" Would you be ok with no updates for as long as it takes to implement the foundry?" ?

I'm seeing nothing to keep my faith in this game. I don't expect a new costume, much less a foundry.
