I heard in channel recently that SODLAG might be breaking up. I'm really bummed out by this, because sodlag's one of our oldest supergroups and has been really active in the cc community.

Does anyone know about this? How can we keep em around? I'm gonna put an alt in, to see if that helps.

What happened, anyway?

I had heard rumblings. I just chalked it up to some troll. Guess there is more to it than I figured. Bunni basically confirmed it today in game, in a round about way. So, still unclear, but it is looking like there are problems. Their lines at the CCs have been all over the place. They are usually the best at staying together.

I know, it's a small thing. But, with this other info now, it is painting a broader picture.

    I am sad.

I heard it yesterday and today. I mean, there has to be some truth to it at least, with all these people talking about it. I would hate to see Sodlag go. We need to figure out a way to help save them.

We need stability in this game, what with everything else going on. Sodlag has been here forever... let's fight to keep it going.

Arc's gone. And that's why I'm concerned. I'm with Tekka trying to bring back SPEAR, but it's a shame when one of the veteran sgs throws in the towel.

Dunno the OP might have a point old SG are breaking up all the time. Pain Inc broke up and that was the biggest villain group in CO.

Though I must add PAIN only broke up because I FIRED THE LOT OF THEM had to be the biggest mass kicking in the history of CO :P

pretty sure it's just kali and bluh now tho. Compared to where they were, they're pretty gone.

And yeah, it's disturbing how many top tier super groups this game has lost over the past few years. dark enforcers (and all of the offshoots), spear (although that's coming back), arc's got like 2-3 people. Is tba even around anymore? It'll suck if SODLAG goes that route, too.

I mean, it sounds like this is a decision of the players, and if it's what they want to do- so be it, more power to 'em.

I was a field director in spear for years, and pretty much his right hand. Tekka *is* spear though, much like conquer wouldn't be conquer without you. I posted a picture in the image thread that shows it off, about half of those are old members who've rejoined. Myself included. Chernobyl actually joined spear the same day I created her. Thing is, most of us never really left, just drifted off to different things. We're just gathering the core team together for now, though. contacting old members and such, trying to build the meat of the sg. It won't look like we're back for a bit, because we're not really actively recruiting for the moment.

    I just got a thought!

Maybe I can throw a cc and have a category "distinguished lady or gentleman", to let em know that we love them and don't want them to split up.

Its a sad attempt at a recruitment drive. I have seen plenty of A.R.C players about Millennium City this week for the OP to say this SODLAG? { what does that even mean? } is the last bastion for CC is pure hyperbole.

I didn't say it was the last bastion of everything. Don't put words in my mouth. I said it's an old super group and it's sad to see em go. Nothing more, nothing less. Before tempers get too much higher, there's a side to this that I'm unclear on. What is it that you're trying to "save?" Is it the name, or is it what the name represents?

I'm all for lost causes and underdogs. I'm a "hanger on" over at Titan, the loudest, if not quite always the most consistent, voice trying to save/resurrect City of Heroes. I run an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise a night, whether or not I even watch it, in the hopes of replicating the "Arrested Development Affect." I get it.

Lemme put my concern this way: How many Jefferson Starship fans go to a Starship concert and come away happy? What about the Hootie fans who see Darius Rucker perform live, these days?

Do you want the name, or what it represents? Is it worth keeping the name alive if it's an empty shell?

I'm not saying that it is, but I see a lot of dissatisfaction, here. It takes a lot of forms, but it invariably degenerates into people sniping at each other.

What I propose is this: Anyone who can, get in touch with a "surviving" member and request membership. Then gather like-minded individuals from here to fill the ranks. If that doesn't work, start a new one.

Bottom line, every week, there seems to be a new thread from someone respected by the community who "can't take it anymore" and is leaving the game. Let's not go all Lord of the Flies on each other, besides.

As an ancient member of the first iteration of S.P.E.A.R., and a still current Officer of A.R.C. I figured I would pop in to say that we are far from gone.

When there is new substantial content to play, we will return to play it and cheer lead it. But until then, A.R.C. will continue to monitor Champions Online, whilst chatting on our voice chat server, playing other games together.

It's sad to see SODLAG split up, but I imagine they are disappearing for the same reason many of us in A.R.C. started lurking. For a long time now, the game has felt like it has been put into maintenance mode.

Hello folks:smile: Just thought I would pop my head into this thread to clear up a couple of things. First of all, I should probably tell you that I am a member of SODLAG (Society of Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen) and have been, actively, for quite a while now.

I'd like to start by saying that I really miss ARC and SPEAR CCs...they were consistently well organised, fun and they had a really good eye for well-made costumes. I really hope that you guys come back full-time (assuming Cryptic pulls it's socks up and shows the game some love),we miss you :frown:

    Then there's this.......
Its a sad attempt at a recruitment drive. I have seen plenty of A.R.C players about Millennium City this week for the OP to say this SODLAG? { what does that even mean? } is the last bastion for CC is pure hyperbole.

    and this....
Thats what it came across by reading between the lines of all your posts in this thread, thats why half the posts in this thread were WTF and who cares. Not one to be a total git I will inform some of my minions that there is a CC SG looking for members and that if they have alts looking for a SG give them a look in.

Just to make it crystal clear to you....we are not on a recruitment drive, we have plenty of great members. No coincidence that your sister, nepht was saying quite blatantly in Zone yesterday (and seen by many in the community) that "this a pathetic attempt at recruitment", an unfounded comment that has no basis in fact. I don't really know where your snarkiness over this comes from, but whatever.

So, this thread is not in the SG forum because: 1.We have plenty of members, 2. We are not recruiting any differently than usual, and 3.The OP is not in SODLAG (I am the only SODLAG member on this thread, so far), so why would he try to recruit for us?

However, I'm sure that if you "read between the lines" again, you could probably make up some other nonsense that the OP didn't actually say.

I'm sure I will get replies with images of cats and squirrels and hilarious "U MAD BRO?" type comments. I can't wait for the hilarity to ensue............

I would also like to address this strange comment......
    nepht wrote: »

Much of this has already been commented on in this thread but, on looking back , nobody claimed that any SG were "CC masters" (whatever that means), except nepht.

As far as your "never heard of them", well you probably wouldn't see much of us nepht, SODLAG don't spend any time in the toilets in Caprice to get to know you:wink:

Do feel free to send me a PM sometime though sweetie and we can chat:biggrin:

Finally, thanks to the others in this thread (including chalupaoffury, the OP) for the support and comments, SODLAG appreciates it.

To be fair, "Never heard of 'em" was pretty much my first reaction too. When someone actually spelled it out, I realized that they're a group that I see at least a member or two of every day, so I'm not sure why the OP felt a need to save them... especially when he isn't a member.

As one of the current leaders of SODLAG, I'd like to point out that we are considering the future of the game and the path that we may or may not take. BUT it's not a "for sure" that SODLAG is going anywhere. It's nothing to do with CCs or anything specific, just getting a feel for where the game in general may be headed.

That said, I do miss the "older" SGs out there, and as mentioned before time does end most groups, and the reasons can be related to the game or not. Many of the SGs that are around today are formed as offshoots from some of the bigger SGs from the past (Conquer from Red Academy as an example). In no way is there a "master" SG, just the big names we remember from CCs in the past, some (including SODLAG) that still host today.

I appreciate the effort that the OP has shown for our SG, especially for an outside view. Thanks chalupaoffury and the others who have shown their support ^.^

    Good evening everyone,
I thought i should pop in here and say that SG's come and go but no matter what, the spirit of that group lives on in the game and the members who disperse in to the game and in to other SG's.

Kali, Snazzymcpants, Eviltaco and more were the first members of S.P.E.A.R. when we created and organized and eventually streamlined the CC's. A.R.C was formed, the members brought the idea of CC's and multi-category CC's and made it their own and the multi-category CC's are what they are because of the seeds that were planted.

If SOLDAG survives, they will create and everlasting legacy within CO and if they do die, their ideals will be distributed along the community and will forever be a Legacy.

I left for more than a year and in that year plus i was gone, i thought that everything about S.P.E.A.R. would be lost but members like Eviltaco, Thundrax, Kali, Snazzy, has kept the legacy of S.P.E.A.R. alive and every great SG will live on like that.

Though I am glad to announce that I'm back in CO with Eviltaco to rebuild S.P.E.A.R. so prepare for the S.P.E.A.R. CC's to come back :)

    Good night everyone

    This is a good point.

As of now, SGs are just a name and bank slots. Especially if their activity disappears and its members don't play anymore.

Wait. Why are you people upset? We're bitter over SGs? You seem a bit nostalgic over this. I interact with SGs all the time. Even when groups die their separate channels live on and are active.

Don't see our comments as negatives toward SGs in the game, but as commentaries over how Cryptic refuses to make them more of a part of the game. Don't put words in our mouth because you feel too attached over a group that isn't active anymore.

What the other people said. Also:

    "friendly and helpful SG"

"...you just make me glad about being choosy, vis-a-vis the type of people I like to spend my time with in-game. "

Doesn't sound nice, friendly, and least of all helpful.

These 2 statements make this sound like a terrible sg. What does your sg leader think about all this drama?

I'm confused. You say that the two quoted statements make the SG sound terrible; the first is a claim that he found the SG 'helpful and friendly', the second is a statement of personal preference of what sort of SGs he likes to join. How does either reflect poorly on the SG?

One of the SG leaders already replied at the bottom of the first page of this thread. She debunked the 'SODLAG is dead' rumour.

If friendly and helpful are terrible in your opinion, could you enlighten us in what you look for in an SG?

And to the ladies and Gentlemen; the GW2 branch is alive and kicking, if you guys do decide to move on!

SODLAG isn't going anywhere. Not for a long time. I don't have an alt in it or anything, but just call it intuition, and some targeted guessing. The community would of known something by now, and I like to poke my nose into things that I think even have a hint of being true ( in this case, I know it's not ).

Case closed, this is just a spam thread now, and I shall now lay down my flag of claim here!

^ Pretty much this. I'm confused by Lafury's strange hypothesis also. I may yet join the GW2 branch Pixie (how are you by the way?), it would be nice to be in SODLAG in 2 great MMOs:biggrin:

As I did mention before, SODLAG is considering our options with the future of the game, but we have decided to remain together as the SG the community has grown to know and love. SO with that said I think we can stop the Save SODLAG stuff

Thanks for the support from friends and fans alike!

We'll be here till the end!!!! SODLAG Onward!!

But sorry SOD and LAG in the same name , just ..just LOL. SODLAG (dont any of you guys see it ?) I was like what they tried to do what is that even possible? ( Think about it :D ).
Now you've told me the proper name I know who you guys are tis something I can get behind . But yeah ditch that short version of your name it sounds sorta kinky :P

Sorry, but SODLAG sticks! There's nothing intended by the shortening of it, just far easier to type out SODLAG (or even SoDLaG) than always writing out Society of Distinguished Ladies and Gentleman all the time

Oh, we were still talking about SODLAG? I didn't know if they were dead or not. I thought me and Smoochan were just talking hypothetically how the direct and open activity of an SG does not define the SG as being dead or not.

I find your response as a misdirection of my point.

    Again...

Who cares if a SG breaks up, as long as the players are still around.

Why do you see this as an attack on SGs? Specifically, your SGs. Especially when we weren't referring to SODLAG directly.

As per the title, the entire thread is about SODLAG, not the philosophy on the difference between a friends list and a Supergroup.

On topic: Glad to hear the SG isn't breaking up. I know I'd miss their presence at CCs if they were to suddenly disappear entirely.
