A sort-of OT question, but inspired by Swinging

It's mysteriously handy that Swinging requires no tall buildings - or anything else - to fasten the line to. But I got to thinking about it outside the game. I was watching something where Superman was flying out to sea to aid a stricken ship. All of a sudden, I realized that, if Spider-Man were in that position, he'd need a ride to the ship, as far as I know. Personally, I think he should have "liberated" a glider from Green Goblin. It would give him more travel options, and who could say "no" to the Spider Glider? But could someone more familiar with Spidey answer: How DOES he travel outside NYC - if he were going out to sea, or into the countryside - as Spider-Man? Does a villain simply have to leave the city for Spidey to be forced to stop chasing him? Thanks for any light you can shed.
