Caliga Vs Captain Chat Ban!

xcaligaxxcaligax Posts: 1,096 Arc User
"The two of them stared at each other...trying to anticipate each other's moves. They had been fighting for hours, neither one giving an inch. Caliga's armor was critically damaged, his life support systems were failing, and his strength was quickly diminishing due to the intensity of the fight against his nemesis...Captain Chat Ban. The two of them had been exchanging mountain crushing blows ever since Caliga first entered "Zone chat".

Caliga suddenly charged, and with the last bit of his failing strength, he powered forth a Haymaker strong enough to shatter a star. Alas...it was still not enough, as Captain Chat Ban suddenly activated his greatest power.....

Caliga, my brother- we must unite the Mightiest King in the Universe and the Greatest hero Millennium City never knew it didn't want against this menace!

I got chatbanned, too- appears the trolls are out in force today.

Time and time again, I just know the system needs a review. Not being able to chat for 24 hours just doesn't make me want to play the game.

And dude, your stuff isn't bad or offensive or anything, it's just good clean fun in the chat. I see it all the time.

This system has got. to. go.

I need to log in today. I'm starting to feel left out of the Chat Ban Army.

Well I managed to chatban myself a few days ago, and got a 1 min 45 sec chat ban.

    Apart from that one time:

    -Costume Contests (Winning Mentalist Categories)
    -Having pieces of "OP" gear
    -Having Mind Slayer's Bracers
    -Owning Mentella as a character
    -Declining ERP advances

Have all been reasons thusfar why I have been chatbanned in CO...great right?

And I don't have to anymore, because I have him on /ignore.

One man's "not bad or offensive or anything" is another man's "annoying as hades". Clearly, I'm not alone in that sentiment.

It's unfortunate that the system is set up the way it is. Just because I find someone annoying, or don't want to see their chat, doesn't mean that they deserve a chat ban. The /ignore feature shouldn't count towards chat bans. That way, if someone is advertising RMT, being offensive, or flooding the channel to the point where nobody else can use it, they can be silenced if need be. But if the person isn't violating any rules and you just don't want to hear them, it shouldn't count against them.

That wouldn't make the system any less abuseable, but at least I could use /ignore on people without any qualms.

    - Then you shouldn't have made such an awesome costume.
    - Are you telling me you're not satisfied with the top-quality green gear given out as quest rewards?
    - They probably mistook you for the real Mind Slayer.
    - To be fair, looking at her PRIMUS page, Mentella is pretty terrifyingly powerful.
    - That's what you signed up for when you decided to play a female character in an MMO.

See? Those are all perfect reasons to mute someone.

I remember a time when 'ignoring someone' meant 'not really paying attention to them and doing your own thing', so sad now that we require a button to do that for us because, OH DEAR GOD- someone is using Zone chat.

I'm assuming you've deduced my age by looking at my name. It's not that hard to do.

And I'll take the slam for being young (GLADLY), but what's your excuse for being 'older and wiser' but still being unable to handle Caliga's harmless banter in the chat box without being an adult and just not paying attention?

Back in my day it was that there hipitty hop music that turned kids into hooligans. Now it's that unfortunately named little girl's music doing it I tell ya!

What ever happened to wholesome things like Batman gunning down nazis or Captain America urging young people to buy war bonds?

The name was helpful, but I mostly based my deduction on the content and demeanor of your posts. That wasn't that hard to do either.

Somehow you've decided to turn this debate about Cryptic's poor implementation of the chat ban system into criticism for players using a system implemented in most MMO's today as it has always been intended: to keep a sometimes busy and rapidly scrolling chat window free of unwanted or unnecessary clutter. It goes well beyond simply ignoring text you don't like. It's about efficiency, and you know that, you're simply upset that you can't change Cryptic's poor policies. That's understandable, but focus your aggression in the proper direction, please.

Actually, I kind of figured no one cared that you ignored the guy, but then... you had to come in here and announce it.

If being 'mature' means 'can't handle someone using the chat box' and 'having to announce that I've ignored someone on the forums just to be a jerk', I'll be in the corner making fart noises and looking at side boob on cable TV.

    Don't tell mom.

You cared enough to announce to everyone that you had put someone on ignore. It's posts like that that would make people guess you're much lower than whatever age you claim to be.
