Silly EULA Question...

mersenneprimemersenneprime Posts: 110 Arc User
Why do I have to re-agree to the EULA each time I log into a different Cryptic game?

Well, I can't say every game, since I don't really play STO, but I have to re-agree when I enter NWO if I've played CO since the last time I played NWO, similarly, I have to re-agree when I enter CO if I've played NWO between CO sessions.

In the game, I'm @Knickknacks.

This is pure conjecture, but it seems reasonable:

NWO and CO have different versions of the EULA. When you sign into CO, you agree to vX.X of the EULA. The next time you sign in, it checks the EULA and sees that you have agreed to vX.X, which is the current version. When you sign into NWO, it sees EULA vX.Y, which does not match the last one you agreed to, so it pops up. When you go back to CO, it still has vX.X, but your account registers that you agreed to vX.Y. Since there's a version mismatch, it makes you agree again.

That explains why, but doesn't explain why.

I'd expect CO to have a different EULA than NWO since there are different things that need to be agreed to for each game. However, why (for a company that makes multiple games) is the EULA info not stored for each game?

I'm pretty sure that CO and STO have the same EULA. NWO probably has a different one either because it is still in beta, and will be changed to match the others once the beta status is removed, or that it has the newer version already, and that CO and STO will be updated to match it once it is out of the Beta stage.

    Again, pure conjecture.

I have no idea for sure, but my guess is that the theory behind when the EULA should pop up is "better safe than sorry". It might be a bit spammy, but that's probably better than accidentally failing to legally notify players of something.

Something like this, yep. It's been bug reported over on NWO. Oddly enough, STO isn't affected by this stupidity.
