Everything WRONG and How to FIX it

You have consistently taken this game into a downhill spiral, but there are easy ways to fix the issues. I am a veteran player and am tired of watching this game go through the floor rather than to the moon. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

#1 BIGGEST MMO NO NO: Best gear should never be able to be bought. The lock boxes are the most ridiculous thing I've ever witnessed in any MMO. The elite items (Legion Gear Currently) should be rare boss drops off of elite runs with slight % increases for decent drops coming from the amount of members in your winning team. With the addition of Legion Gear, the heroic gear coming from Unity mission while still an "eh" idea is acceptable. I remember running SL adventure pack as much as I could due to the fact that the bosses dropped Legendary gear or Resistance because of the Dark Speed drop. At the time, that was the proper way to do things and this needs to happen with all elite gear. Another thing that should happen, but is not extremely important elite gear such as Legion Gear, Vigilante Secondaries, Etc should bind on pick up or at least do like SWTOR does and give the player one hour of time to sell or AH post the item before it binds to them.

#2 ALERTS OMG THIS IS OVERKILL: Your alert system was the single biggest downfall to the actual game. I am constantly getting individuals playing that inquire as to if the game only consists of the Millennium City Zone. This question saddens and upsets me every time I hear it (considering Canada and The Desert are opened at level 15). People in general get into a hurry and not only that, but those that are true gamers have issues as well due to the fact that they have an overwhelming urge to be efficient. The consensus is why should I spend a month making a max level character when everyone else is doing it in a day or two. So we have people in a hurry and people wishing to be efficient, the next issue is you are destroying plot lines for those few that actually do attempt to play. I remember one of the biggest surprises when I started was believing Valerian Scarlet to be a good guy and playing through a small story arc to gain access to Vibora Bay and in that story arc finding out that Valerian was actually an enemy. So Smash Alerts are a huge issue keeping most from even bothering to play the game content and those that do alerts on the side, but do attempt the content are ruining some of the surprises to the game. A few of ways to fix this issue would be: 1) Completely eliminate the Alert System or at very least the Smash Alerts, 2) Make it an unlock, being the only way to gain access to Smash Alerts is to have a content max level character on your account, 3) Make people feel playing the game content is actually more efficient than doing Smash Alerts by scaling that amount of XP received way back to where doing missions actually give more XP, 4) Make the Smash Alerts only give a non-stackable XP boost and no actual XP, and 5) Make Smash Alerts limited to a daily limit say 3 times per day is all you can do them (The reason I say 3 (with the understanding that Smash Alert dailies for Questionite require 3). The other thing needs to be that other alerts Grabs, Bursts, and Special need to give zero XP, that is not what they are for. If you want to grind alerts for global then go ahead, but you aren't going to get XP while you're doing it, you wanna level, play the game.

#3 Add new game content: This is big especially for veterans such as myself that actually played through the game content a few times, and if you fix the issue listed in #2 above, it will be important to everyone. Stop putting random content into special alerts and actually make a new zone (possibly up the level cap to 45 or 50, but not necessary). Keeping things new and interesting is what ensures a games longevity. This can be attained a couple of ways, 1) Create a new zone following story arcs beyond Vibora Bay & 2) Make a new adventure pack. Either way you are showing that new content is available.

#4 Lock Boxes in General: Ok, we've discussed getting elite gear out of these stupid things, now lets take a look at the concept in general. I understand the business aspect of the boxes. That said, Become devices have always been a C-Store (Z-Store) item, people would rather spend money knowing they are going to get what they want rather than a chance to get what they want, but a far greater chance of getting junk. Put the becomes back in the Z-Store and leave them there. If you want to keep the lock boxes make them a random slue of R4+ mods with the occasional low percentage chance of a R9 (No R1-R3 as these are attainable through Burst Alerts Currently) or a vehicle.

#5 Vehicles: This was and still is an awesome idea, I'd say the best one to date since PWE's takeover. However, don't get a big head just yet. Keep in mind when creating these vehicles that Champions Online has the best character customization system ever seen by any game MMO or otherwise. You can literally look like and power up like anything you can imagine here. That said, remember you have Knights, Vigilantes, Classic Superheroes with alter egos, Celestial Beings, even Police Officers, and many many more. With that in mind, how many knights have you ever seen flying around in a jet, hover tank, or grav bike? Answer: NONE, they ride horses. A lot of your members want actual cars, motorcycles, horses, etc. The flight power of the current vehicles is great, but every time a friend and I get over into Westside we see the Cobra Lords motorcycles and say "man wouldn't it be awesome if we could get one of those"? Our vigilantes are not supposed to be on grav bikes, but that is all that is currently available, so that is what they have. The character creator being what it is, you can make as I said anything imaginable, the vehicle should match the image the player was going for.

I'm not really one to complain, but I am trying to help ensure this games survival. I love playing and have forged many cyber friendships here, but something has to give here. I really hope someone looks at this and takes my suggestions seriously and fixes at least 2 or 3 of the issues. I hope beyond hope they are all fixed, but a couple things REALLY need reviewed.

I know what im about to say. If anythign needs correction please do so and I will see if I agree with it or not.

First argument I sorta agree with the first part about having other ways of getting Legion gear, but I disagree with them being a bind on pickup or having na hour to sell them, i just don't see those happening.

With alerts, yes I do agree with degrading the xp level on smashs. But the other alerts I have no problem with. Honestly people have the ability to choose whether they want to do alerts or not to level up. Lore stuff, yeah thats already been messed up for a long time(anyone that knows of Vanguard's mess up lore wise).

I do agree with them adding new long time stuff. Adding special event along with long time content is more of a smart idea than just adding breif stuff.

LOCKBOXES, boy have I seen this a billion times. I know its something that alot of people hate, but i have seen this in enough games I play to not honestly care. People win, people lose.

My only thing with veichles is that they should have atleast given you an ability to customize them. Also some more options of veichles would be nice.

    Also, very important!

Keep in mind that NONE OF THE 4 or 5 DEVS WORKING ON THIS GAME READ THIS SECTION

All your complaints and suggestions are falling on deaf ears...

....and even if they did, THEY ARE FORCED TO WORK ON MORE LOCKBOXES & CONTENT RELATED TO SAID ITEMS

so yeah, game is broken and nobody is gonna fix it, cause that would mean to pour more money into it.

#1 BIGGEST MMO NO NO: Best gear should never be able to be bought.

The issue with this is that gear is actually not that important in this game. Champions does not rely on gear as a whole. All it does is slightly improve your character's effectiveness and thanks to diminished returns, you get punished for having the best gear.

Devices on the other hand is a different story.

#2 ALERTS OMG THIS IS OVERKILL

When it came out we were all excited that we could finally have filler and small bursts of game play to change the pace of some parts of the game. But then we had come to realize that this was to become a crutch for Cryptic to roll out easily made content without worrying about story or game progression.

For shame Cryptic. Alerts were supposed to be a side show. Not the main focus.

When players found out that alerts were more rewarding than anything else in the game , especially since the unique gear and drops were removed except crap permanent devices (with the rare occasion that was left alone), normal content died.

    #3 Add new game content

We though comics were a good thing. Cryptic considered it a fail because Whiteout was a failure. But that was because they rushed it and didn't release a complete version. They set it up to fail.

    #4 Lock Boxes in General

The top prizes in the lockboxes should be available for direct purchase. Lockboxes are supposed to be a random chance to get the best items available in the store and in the game. But not when that chance is 1% or less.

    #5 Vehicles

The person in charge of vehicle design did not understand what we wanted. They still don't understand what we wanted. I think a motorcycle by itself would be able to compete against the summation of all the current vehicles in game if it were designed as what a motorcycle should be. Player combat powers usable through it through either recreation or powers based on what sets you chose from, and useable anywhere appropriate. Sometimes inside and all the time outside, period.

Perhaps you are all correct. While I'm sure this is not everything, it is everything that came to mind at the time. I should have called the post My top five things currently wrong and how to fix them. Anyway, I really hate to hear that DEV's do not look at the suggestion page. That kinda eliminates the purpose of having a suggestion page. I guess I'm gonna have to try to contact the DEV next time they are in game. I had another level 40 ask me tonight if Millenium City was the only zone in the game, this has gotten ridiculous and old. Also, while it is up to the player whether they want to do alerts to level up or not, I stated a few reason why people do this in my post. Most people are power hungry and want to rush to the end of their character, and those that are not in a hurry still feel the urge to be efficient and why spend 6 hours getting to level 15 when in the same time frame you can be twice that. Efficiency is important to people. My best suggestion is eliminate Smash alerts period, but if not only grant an XP boost for doing them. This will get people back into content. Thank you all for your replies, I look forward to seeing more...

All your complaints and suggestions are falling on deaf ears...

People used to say the same thing about the Suggestions section of the CoH forum. And then a dev posted in one of the threads. When asked, the response was that the Devs read almost everything posted there, but they avoided posting replies, because any acknowledgment on an idea became a promise to implement it in the eyes of the community, and failure to follow through resulted in upsetting the players.

I suspect that the same stance is taken here.
