Wanna know why they call it the Xbox One?
Because you look at and turn 1 pi radians and walk away.
I got nothing.
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends
Another Halo.
More Call of Doodie.
Yawn.
Wake me up when people making these things realize that I don't want to talk to my TV. I don't want to waggle around a control and flail like an idiot to play a game. I don't want fancy gimmicks. I just want to sit down on my butt with a cold drink and some bacon jerky with a damned controller and play good games.
All I want , man.
And the last time XBox panicked after a Playstation system was released, we had 3 years of Red Rings because of cheap sautering.
And they've yet to fix it.
Nope.
Go to Hell, Microsoft.
Not backwards compatible with 360 games? Huh. I guess I know where Cryptic's decision-makers are now!
Fee for used games? Kiss the entirety of my arse.
In a nutshell, XBox basically remade the PC- but for morons.
Is it programmed by C****c?
Yay for voice-controlled TV! Now I can be the perfect couch potato, not having to get up and look for the remote if it gets lost. That's....ground-breaking.
Yay for Kinect 2.0...because the Kinect has worked so well for the 360 right? Maybe this new one will blow our socks off at E3, who knows.
That god-awful design. I can see why it's being called a VHS. Does it actually look bigger than the 360? The 360 is sleek and can be placed vertically. The Xbox One looks bulkier and doesn't look like it's capable for vertical placement.
Fee for used-games...I'm on the fence on this one. I don't loan my games to anyone nor do I buy used games, but I can see how this is a problem for people who do buy used games primarily. To be noted that we don't know how much the fee is yet.
With all of that being said, maybe Microsoft should have waited until E3 to showcase their new console, because during then they can show off its other strengths and whatever exclusive titles they have that can redeem it. If the Xbox One has the level of indie game support that the 360 has, that's actually enough to get my interest. If there's one thing I really wished my PS3 had, it's the 360's indie game support.
Oh, and please stop using el cheapo hardware Microsoft. The RRoD was the one thing that affected my decision to get a PS3 instead of a 360.
The having to register games isn't that hard to believe, we've been moving towards things like this for a while now. Blame those who would borrow their friends games and then pirate them onto a modded hard drive.
I didn't see anything about the on-screen guide integrating with Smart Glass. Before I moved, I had a DirecTV app that let me tune my receiver by iPad. Very cool, and I hope Smart Glass supports it. It's a life-changer if you have it for your cable or satellite box.
I think those go hand-in-hand. Between the ventilation, low-power chips, and lack of vertical stand, it looks like Microsoft is making damn sure Xbox One doesn't have anything resembling the RRoD. Besides, it can't possibly be as massive as the original Xbox, can it?
I think this one part recapturing used game revenue, one part anti-piracy. Not quite Steam levels of user-friendly DRM With Benefits, but not the prohibition of used games everybody feared, either.
Funny how Microsoft and Sony seem to be moving in opposite directions. Sony revealed the PS4's games long before the hardware, and is becoming far more open to indies than they were on PS3. Microsoft revealed the Xbox One hardware long before the games, and it sounds like they're backsliding a bit on indies.
You know what's going to happen in the end anyway? Some games will look better on PS4, some will look better on XB1, but the differences will be mostly esoteric because the hardware is so, so similar. Fanbois are gonna fanboi, and everybody else will vote with their wallets, which should favor PS4, or their favorite apps, which should favor XB1.
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends
If there's anything the PS3 did right (at least for the Slim model), it's the integrated cooling system. A noisy external coolant wasn't needed for the system to run stable. From what I've read in the past this isn't the case with the 360, and that running it without an external coolant was basically asking for a hardware failure.
Regarding vertical-standing, I've also read that game discs being run inside of vertical 360's are prone to being scratched. It seems that the XB1 might not have to suffer this problem if it's horizontal-stand only. However, vertical-standing can be a very important feature to have and it can be especially important to someone who wants to save on space or has no choice but to do so.
While I can understand wanting to profit a little from the used game market, how about for those who want to loan their games to their friends? This was something advantageous about consoles in the past. I guess this is really a moot point with Microsoft since they don't profit anything at all from people loaning games to friends, but at the very least the person who's borrowing the game would already own a console system themselves.
I'll say this: If both Microsoft and Sony study each other's competing current gen consoles, understand what worked well and integrated those elements into their next gen consoles, it's a win-win for everyone, especially the gamers.

If I wanted a voice-activated TV remote, they sell one down at the Rite-Aid for about seventy bucks, as I recall. It's hard to imagine being too lazy to press the buttons on my regular remote, however.

Thats the mistake Sony made that cost them a sale and had me buy an xbox360. That and the games i wanted were coming out on both machines and the 360 was cheaper and i'm poor so Sony lost out. Looks like Microsoft doesn't want my money any more.
I suspect that would be illegal in Australia, but they'll probably try and get the law changed to suit them. I'm very much opposed to that kind of behaviour.
Well this news has me increasingly interested in Sony's future plans.
While she has been rescued

the Volterrific Dr Cerebellum?
To be a little fair to Sony, their first PS3 model was truly backwards compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games, and that model is actually still sought after on ebay and what not. A slightly later model had backwards compatibility but in emulated form, so not every older-gen game worked on it. They then totally scrapped backwards compatibility with the Slim model onwards in order to sell PS1 and 2 games as "Classics" in the Playstation Store.
On that note, I think the biggest bomb with the XB1 so far is that there will be no backwards compatibility for 360 games according the latest official announcement. Their current excuse is that the "architecture" for the XB1 is too vastly different from that of the 360 for it to happen. I seriously call BS on that and doubt it's impossible. If your biggest competitor (I assume its Sony at the moment) is able to do it, why not you Microsoft? Even Nintendo was able to do it, making their Wii-U compatible with Wii games. It's not like the 360 will become instantly irrelevant once the XB1 launches. I'm sure games will still be released for the 360 during then and owners of a XB1 would love to play them on their XB1's.
At this point in time, it seems that Sony is continuing to do things right and Microsoft just doesn't get it.
I also see it like this, say you buy a fancy chair from a furniture store for 500 dollars, and eventually have a garage sale and sell it, and then the person takes it home. as they get home, they see the secondhand police at the front door pulling their guns on the now owner shouting "stop, you're breaking the policygive us money or you can not sit in this chair"
Because i think it's just senseless as to why they should expect to keep gaining money from a secondhand game just because it changes hands. especially when the retail stores themselves still keep the price of secondhand high.
Also the fact that now you have to install every single game to play it, onto the console harddrive.... lol... i have the Xbox Elite 120 GB, i have about 73 GB left, and it's all mainly just various DLC's i got over time, and save files, i imagine, if i installed all those games onto the Harddrive it would consume over 500GB (What's that you say? just uninstall when finished? Okay, should i delete all DLC too and save files, if i might be the kind of person who returns to old games? Yes, it seems i have no choice. Well, i do, i just won't buy this PoS Glorified Tv channel flipper)
Shame really... Because i like Halo and it'll be on Xbox dOne

Pretty much. However, all the caveats that come with the system, as it is currently announced, have significantly raised the bar for how good those games have to be for me to consider them must have. A lot of the "features" they announced are simply a hassle for me and have completely put me off of considering it until I see some absolutely amazing software. But, I think you know how I feel about this already...you've seen my Facebook Wall O Pain regarding the Xbox One.

I highly highly highly highly doubt they even brought anything new in regards to gaming, well except the "new" feature of "you have to install the game to play it, because we took a step into the past where technology to instantly play from a disc doesn't exist, just like when we remade windows 98 and titled it 7"
If they even had anything for the gaming side- Which given that it's a gaming console you would expect that - it would have been the major focus, i watched the reveal, and from the entire gaming aspect all i retained was that COD ghosts has added a dog and AI into fish to make them swim away when you go near them, implying it's the first time it's ever been done
I expect this will go bust and die, and everyone will either go to PS4 or PC, either way, it's one stepping stone to get rid of consoles and finally stop consoles holding PC back with how most things are made for console and ported to PC so it has less quality.
Oh wait....the Steam Box, which is coming to blow Microsoft completely out of the water.
From this article.
So, i dont think it's only a matter of "architecture" but also that they expect peoples to drop old systems like a sack of brick and just move on to buy new, more expensive, games, not the old stuff.
#I don't need it to play blu-rays for film.
#I'm not interested in my console scrutinizing me for activity, bugging me to network and skype with friends as I'm playing or check whats on TV channels split screen as I'm playing.
#I'm not interested in their line they are pushing re: Installing games to hard-drives once so that they can content-lock them behind pay-walls. Want to lend your game to a friend? - "How dare you!" apparently thinks Microsoft. It's Crazy, just absolutely nuts. Incredibly greedy and not a precedent I am interested in adding to.

@Mothers_Love
I went xbox this gen largely because of fable and bioware(yes bioware was on pc but my pc up until about 3 years ago was unimpressive.) well, peter m left lionhead and "the journey" was the wrong direction for me, so that is out. then bioware went multiplat and my pc got better, so ms lost a lot of the must have status. in addition, im seeing that my other love, jrpgs, are solidly in the sony and 3ds catagory, so, while uncharted and god of war do nothing for me, ni no kuni is a convincing argument, and we factor in how the psn has great exclusive groups like jenova chen's group, well the xbla hasnt had a exclusive that has stayed exclusive for a while(dust: an elysian tale is going multiplatform)
so its not impossible for the xbone to get my cash, but my tasts are thus, i will have a nintendo system, because legend of zelda was my childhood,i will have a handhed system by nintendo, because of zelda again, i will have a gaming pc because of Bethesda mods, And i will have one "next gen" slugfest console for the stuff that doesnt get released on pc, sony has the edge right now for the Japanese support, but an exclusivity on beyond good and evil 2 or a really good offline customizable superhero game (and thats not infamous, i want to make my guy, not play some hipster twit with preset powers) could get my support. while i hod my nose and ignore the stupid garbage that was shoehorned in in this unveil.
Sadly, this will sell because CAWL UV DOODIE. Mindless, knuckle-dragging morons will hurl cash at anything with that name on it because you can go online and shoot at each other and listen to 11 year old children screech in your ear and say things that would make neonazis and convicted sex offenders shudder.
Sorry, I will pass as I always have because I have brains and need more than 'point at player, shoot gun, squat on face'.
2: The first PS3 models were able to run PS2 games because Sony built a redundant Emotion Engine CPU into every one. One of the many reasons it was so gawd-awful expensive at launch. Xbox One looks like its going to be expensive enough as-is without adding a PowerPC CPU just for 360 games.
And I can tell you from experience, emulating PowerPC on x86 (or vice versa) sucks. PowerPC Mac desktop apps were sluggish enough on my Intel iMac. I tried Rise of Nations for five minutes before concluding that Rosetta-emulated games were a total loss. This is also why Xbox 360 never had back compatibility with original Xbox games. (And somehow, the world didn't end when the 360 was released...)
Although, ironically, switching back to x86 means making original Xbox games run on Xbox One should be almost trivial. They use a hypervisor to run the Dashboard and apps on a cut-down Windows kernel, while running games on a parallel "Xbox OS". Why not have a thin "Original Xbox Emulator OS" for retro gaming?

Lack of backward compatibility put a major downer on my enthusiasm.

It's a common misconception that this console generation is aimed at core gamers. It's not. What Microsoft really wants is the mass market, the people who'll find it nifty they can voice- and gesture control a set-top box that also offers games.
What's going to kill the thing is that due to mainstream media being the only thing more behind the times than Monty Burns, Microsoft will have to convince core gaming media that the Xbox One is cool.
If they were Apple and called it the iBox, Walt Mossberg would be all over the thing gloating how great it is...
As i said the new tv stuff is kinda cool but they should have predicted this from the "deal with it" fiasco and all the kinekt disinterest. They should have emphasized the games first and introduced the other stuff as a cool but 2ndary cherry on top.
Personally i like the situation because i prefer Japanese games, and would like to see the eastern gaming industry reemerge as dominant. I have high hopes for a Final Fantasy launch title on PS4.
This years E3 should be especially interesting.

The bit from the article
Other users on the console will be able to play that game as well, Harrison said. So you don't need to buy multiple games per family. "With the built-in parental controls of the system it is shared amog the users of the device," he said.
But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee?and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game?in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison said.
"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."
"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.
"Let?s assume it?s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.
But that doesn't mean used games are dead. In fact, Harrison told us, you'll be able to sell your Xbox One games online.

His satire is amazing.
Brilliant,... secondhand games cost the same as brand new plus the second hand price. and trading isn't dead? LOL.
Also, here's a solution to their concerns about game sharing and "piracy" when they moan about people copying discs, which is weird because i never heard of xbox discs being copied before now, and it was directly after hearing about you have to install the games now when the disc becomes useless. why even sell discs anymore if a code replacement would do the same thing they want. Anyway, if you don't care about sharing an account with friends, just do that. one account, multiple people, no second fees, no profit for microsoft, but then again, just don't buy their console and you can watch them cry even more
They still haven't annouced exactly how they're going to handle the fees. I'm hoping they thought about it better than just the adding fees to used games. I'm guessing there is going to be some type of buddy code so if you want to bring your game over to a friends house or if you want to borrow it to a friend you'll be able too. Sort of like what is available for digial books currently.
Also, I think you're the first person I've ever seen to have sympathy for GameStop.
I see no appeal whatsoever in 'realistic, real-world combat shooters'. Considering that from experience, I can tell you that even the most ideal combat scenario is the farthest thing from 'fun', it's the damnned polar opposite of fun. It'd be like asking your mother if she wanted to play a video game about giving birth with all the sights and sounds optimized for realism.
Well, 'realism' in these games is a joke. People still haven't figured out what automatic fire is for and why assault rifles don't use it.
The only good time I've had on XBox is when some kid was screeching obscenities and slurs. I told him how to get free XXX porn on the internet without getting caught and how to sneak some of his parents' vodka without them knowing about it. He was probably about 11 or 12 years old. And, I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. Parents leaving their children unattended and unsupervised to the point where they behave like this deserve to get the whole blowback from bad parenting, and I'm helping teach them a lesson.
