Hey All,

We are planning to do a maintenance at 7am on 4-24-13. Below are the patch notes:

The Forum Malvanum

- The Mysterious Malvans have added a second course to their sky race above Millennium City! The race now alternates between the two courses giving you even more of a challenge as you speed across the rooftops.

Drifter Store

- UNTIL has been hard at work turning Lemurian technology into new field equipment! Two variants on the Exocet vehicle design are entering full-scale production: The Orphie and the heavier Espadon. They are both available from the Drifter in Renaissance Center!

    Exocets as vehicles?

Ohhh...Okay now that sounds kinda neat.

Will there be pics of them since I haven't heard nuthin' about them on PTS?

No ground course, no thanks. Though I am intrigued by the new vehicle. I just hope it's still around by the time I get my PC back (looking at June-ish for that).

Because PTS' C-Store is more than a year and a half out of date with Live now, and shows absolutely no chance of ever getting up to date again.

The Drifter store tends to be a bit more updated, but that does require somebody to place the stuff there.

*shrugs* I gave up on the race days ago, BECAUSE I NEVER MANAGED TO GO OVER HALF WAY BEFORE IT FAILED!!!

more challenging? well... I'm still not going to race then, seeing as it needs to be less challenging for my rank 1, travel power self to do it at all, BEFORE IT"S DIFFICULTY WAS INCREASED.

More challenging? so it will randomly fail players even more?

This is just another lame attempt to sell the vehicles. Players with land based travel powers still need to retcon/spend real money to participate in this terribly designed temporary event.

I seriously don't know what's going on with people failing the race repeteadly, I've been able to complete it with Jetpack r1 n ****. Also, the new "content" is neat, wasn't expecting this.

lol I have a Vehicle, but it needs some sort of mod to add maneuverability to it, to go more than 1/2 way without failing. (a brand new Vehicle with no extra mods added, is hard to maneuver the track)

my rank 1 jet boots, and flying, I tried for a week or so before giving up on passing the 2nd gate before the race failed me (I only managed the boost ONCE, out of all those tries, and that boost started less than 1s before it failed me (over 75% of the way to 2nd gate before boost triggered)
    _______

so ya, even with a Vehicle I couldn't do it... because (1) I have not owned 1 long enough to learn to fly it well, without mods, (and 2) I don't have extra high mods, that I can install into it.

You do know there's a speed Boost button to your vehicle?
You don't need mods to your Vehicle to get thru the track in time.

Cryptic: We are adding two variants of the Exocet vehicle design to the game.

Me: Oh neat, well at least now I'll be able to give you a bit of praise, after all these insulting updates I thought I'd never get the chance to do so again... So are the new Exocet vehicles quest rewards of some kind?

    Cryptic: No...

Me: Oh... Well I guess the Z-Store will have to do, not the best move you could have made as of right now, but hey, at least they aren't part of some new lockbox shenanigans!

Cryptic: We aren't adding them to the Z-Store...

Me: Oh... Okay... So where exactly are you adding them?

    Cryptic: The Drifter store...

Me: Ah, so does it take global or questionite?

    Cryptic: No, drifter salvage...

Me: So how do I earn drifter salvage?

    Cryptic: By opening lockboxes...

Me: ... Sniff... Do you smell that?

    Cryptic: Smell what?

Me: I dunno, it smells like... Bulls**t!

for Vehicle it's not the speed that fails me, it's that turn that takes you at a 90^ through a block then another 90^ turn just after that (if the darn bike would turn better with no mods that help it turn, I might could do it)

and without Vehicle... well like I said, never passed 2nd gate.

edit to add: how do we change our custom avatar again? I did it a long time ago on both STO and Neverwinter, but every avatar change here doesn't show the custom option.

'There's a turn coming, gently lift your foot off the accelerator. Gently, the turn is coming. Ok, now we've past the turn, you can stop pushing the accelerator. STOP PUSHING IT!!!'
Meaning, the track is allways the same, learn when to slow down, you can actually stop early when the "hard curve" comes and let the vehicle drift thru it and the turn to the next Hoop and hit that accelerator!
Rank 2 flight is what you need to have, Rank 1 doesn't cut it.
    And then theres The Lag.

Lots of words, but not much content

Remember when people said the exact same thing about bikes just a couple months ago. And then a few weeks later, there were bikes in the Zen store?

Be patient. There's an obvious trend here:

1- New items in lockboxes, so early adopters have ti spend lots, or get really lucky.
2- Next version in the Drifter Store; still expensive, but no luck required.
3- Final version in the Zen Store, at a considerably lower average price, compared to the previous two stages.

The only difference is that this time, the first stage was free (for the lucky ones that got it to drop), via the Lemurian Harbinger event.

well thanks, I might actually try it again... but I have the Neverwinter headstart to do this weekend, may be Monday before I log on CO again... but then the Legacy in STO should be starting around that time also so.... well.... I may never have time to get the costume pieces before this "temporary event" ends, even if I manage to actually do the race once (or 3 times)

(I also would need to figure out what toon I left my one and only Vehicle on, since they are single unlocks instead of account wide)

If all you're after is the costume pieces, hit the Auction House. They're usually 10-20G now that the market's starting to get saturated.

Vehicles are account-bound. You can swap your vehicle among toons if you have a shared bank slot, such as in a hideout.

When I was a Silver player, a hideout was one of the best things I spent Zen/C-Points on.

    So, um.

What logical reason does UNTIL have to give these refurbished Exocet fighters to the Drifter? It makes no sense to me. If I had just gotten my hands on some strange magitech that I managed to get working for humans, I sure as hell wouldn't give it to the stupid cowboy cyborg who runs a vehicle dealership.

What I'm trying to say is screw Drifter, screw Drifter salvage and screw your Exocet fighters. Should've been a mission reward in a follow-up Lemurian mission, not locked behind the worst alternative currency in this game.

Yeah, crappier versions will be available on the Z-Store soon, but what's the point? >_>

I just try the new race on the PTS, and I'm disappointed: Race Failed (tm) when passing the first circle, with a Fire Flight Rank2!! I flight directly, so it can't be faster (in a matter of seconds).. It was the first try and I won't do anymore until it is say (again) that have been fixed.

I'd like to ask: why putting a new race with the same issue than the first one have, and what are you, developping team, are going to do with that??

The Exocet wasn't supposed to come with the costume piece.

And if you meant the store vehicles (which weren't mentioned in the patch notes), they weren't on sale, either. If they were supposed to be on sale and come with a free item, and were listed at full price, why would you expect them to have the item?

Submit a support ticket, and hope they fix it soon.

Those race fails are a result of lag, which often goes unnoticed.

If you have a bit of lag as you zip through a ring, the ring doesn't register, and you fail the race.

When my connection is laggy, I can't complete any races. When it is smooth, no problem.

Of course they did, and of course the new vehicles are better then the old ones that people have already bought. Why would anyone buy one if this weren't the case.

    Why?

So. A change to the race that brings no new rewards.

    More expensive drifter crap.

A costume piece that can only be obtained through buying expensive vehicles.

Awesome. I was pretty excited after the rings first showed up two weeks ago. As always, cryptic has to do something disappointing to balance it out.

For CO purposes, I doubt you can. In this game, a short latency spike that would go prectically unnoticed in most other MMOs can apparently ruin your day. A race ring not registering for no apparent reason? I have reason to assume this is the reason. I have reason to suspect CO's inability to deal with latency spikes is behind most random "Server Not Responding" problems, too. (Specifically, I tried playing CO on a day when I knew there were latency problems in my ISP's WAN, and boy was that a hellish experience; certain other MMOs on the exact same day played just fine.)

Thearkady is right, I fear. Minimal latency issues aren't noticed in normal gameplay, except that maybe some attacks seem to respond a tiny bit slower than you expected.

Thearkady is right, I fear. Minimal latency issues aren't noticed in normal gameplay, except that maybe some attacks seem to respond a tiny bit slower than you expected.

I have a gaming mouse, and have found that if I set a delay between button press and button release of 0.2s then the power I have that button set on will trigger like a tap effect, consistently.

but if I leave my mouse at "instant release" after pressing, and the mouse response time is set at 1K responses per 1s, then I often would have a power not respond at all, if I taped the button.
    _______

in other words, there's a 0.2s delay most of the time, between what you try to do, and what the game realizes you did. (sometimes it will register at 0.001s but I figure the game is only collecting data every 0.2s and if you send to many groups of info, it only registers the last few, every 0.2s, best off to simply make sure that down press, and release is 0.2s apart and in 2 different data collections. (this doesn't help much with the gates, seeing as the timing of that is hard to pinpoint)

what may help on the gates is slowing down a little just before crossing it, but that's just speculation.

edit to add: that 0.2s delay, is for maintains, and charge-ups also, for every 0.001-1s you would have to tag a 0.2s delay to it, otherwise it could be 5% short of a full maintain or charge-up.

It's the best advice that I have been giving out to everyone I hear complain about the bugged races.

"FFS I keep losing!" "Did you slow down?" "No! I Want to come in first!" "Being first doesn't matter." "Yes it does! Means I have the fastest....Crap I missed that turn!" (or "Crap that ring didn't register!") "Did you slow down?" "No! I floored it!" "Let me give you a tip about the race: Drive Casual."

Yup that is how most of my conversations are when I come in first when all I did was drive like I was enjoying the scenery 10 miles under the speed limit. Might have to watch NASCAR to learn when you get near turns, you slow down, not speed up unless you want to have your face meet the wall.

Only in this game would "did you consider not being good at it?" pass as a viable way to beat something.

Put more plainly: If I can keep my speed 7 grav bike on the track and in good working order, I should not be failing the race because I simply went too fast for the sensors to detect me. That's just silly.

    /netgraph 1

If the graph is relatively low and consistent, then you're fine. If there's lots of spikes in the graph, then the connection is iffy/inconsistent.

    Drifter Store

    - UNTIL has been hard at work turning Lemurian technology into new field equipment! Two variants on the Exocet vehicle design are entering full-scale production: The Orphie and the heavier Espadon. They are both available from the Drifter in Renaissance Center!

the "Drifter"'s actual superpower is the ability to cause the Devs, to "drift" off the plot/story line, to add the Drifter to it, even though every story/plot reason for the Vehicles, has NOTHING to do with him, till the last sentence that offhandedly mentions "BTW the drifter that has nothing at all to do with this, has the only available copies of the UNTIL modified Lemurian Vehicles"
    ___________

seeing as UNTIL made the modifications to them, to make them operational, I would have thought... IDK but maybe? just maybe? they would be sold by? the UNTIL vender? IDK though, would that be to obvious?

I'm starting to think they misspelled his name. They used a "D" when they meant to use a "G".

I've checked my connection and its solid, so there must be an issue elsewhere, I am getting REPEATEDLY logged out when trying to join Alerts, never happened before but has happened 3 times in a row:

"Account Server Connection Timed Out" Then I get kicked, and get the message Account Server Connection could not be started. Can someone explain why this is happening? Thanks

I get that on and off.
Most of the time, when I am changing zones while chnaging to the alert. IT goes braindead trying to do the two changes.
Then when I try to relogin, I get another cannot find something message. Usually takes about 3 or 4 tries to relog.

Other times, it just seems to do it for no reason.
