    Well, simple!

What draws you to the game:
    • Decent combat system
    • A feeling of empowerment
    • A feeling of free movement (how many other games let you fly, or run at supersonic speeds?)
    • Perhaps some drive to accomplish some goal, such as getting someone to max level or unlocking some item.
    • Freakin' customization.

What's not drawing you to the game:
    • An abundance of apathy on the part of developers
    • Imbalance
    • Lack of anything meaningful to do
    • The threat of wrongful punishment, courtesy of automated systems
    • Bugs

So, all that taken into account, your on-and-off playing is completely justified!

Go bounce a ball against a wall. Wee!

After you do it a bunch of times, it gets boring. Bouncing the ball itself is fun... but you're not working toward any eventual goal by bouncing it, and eventually the repetition strips the fun from the activity.

I don't think they intend for CO to be one of those MMOs that you play all day everyday.

I don't mind lockboxes per se... I mind that they are the ONLY new "content" added to the game...

If they were adding new costume sets to the store, new missions... foundry... new areas or new powers AND then lockboxes??? wouldn't mind their existence. But as the main dish? F that!

    Try your hand at roleplaying.

It's the only thing I've been doing lately, as the gameplay has absolutely nothing to offer me anymore.

You aren't getting any challenge, or have any content left to do.

You should try to do as much content as you can, as its slowly all being removed one instance at a time, you cant stop Content Removal, its already in motion.

Maybe a usermade server package will come out...i miss how this game was at launch, id give up all the new junk just to play it how it used to be.

I've felt that way since launch - as I bought the LTS during open beta I thought "this game is so great, I'd rather them freeze development than risk messing it up." Ongoing development has brought more bad than good for a long time. If I could pick any time, it would be right after the release of vibora bay, when all the worthwhile content was in place and powers were somewhat balanced according to the original designers intentions. Before the melee patch, and before the Serpent's Lantern itemization change. That's the point when they should have just gone into bug fixing and costume packs.

    My idea is still :
-remove character creator .. instead let you choose a vehicle
-(of course you can only actually "choose" a vehicle if you have gambled for it)
-remove World .. let you jump with your vehicle directly into an alert from charcter err vehicle-select

To remove even more content, the alerts can simply look more like Asteroids, so you are just in a big black hole with your X-Wing and fire on white spots

Btw.: my "break" now already lasts for 8 months, if i don't count patching and logging in for maybe 1-2 minutes from time to time :frown:

I never got bored with CoH in eight years of play because there was such rich story-driven content and there was always something that we'd actually asked for and wanted in development. And it was so wonderfully faithful to it's genre in art and feel.

Champions has a better graphics engine and I've really warmed up to the hybrid consoleish gameplay, but the art is goofy and not like the comic books I grew up reading--more like Cartoon Network. And Cryptic has done an AMAZING job of NOT using the awesome story and content of the Champions IP and NOT giving us anything anyone really wants.

The "not listening to players" and "I know what's best for you and you'll take the development I decide on and like it" attitude feels familiar. It's how CoH felt before Jack left and Matt Miller took over. Thought Jack has given us two Superhero games, and I am eternally grateful for that, Matt > Jack as a developer by lightyears. God what I'd do to let Matt get his hands on this game.

Anyway, I digress. I WANT to love this game. I have been selling it to my wife and son who played CoH with me, but neither of them have logged on to the Gold account that I have for them in a long time. And I log on less and less, because, when I do, It's just to say hi to my beloved main, and then I fly around and realize there's nothing fun to do. Now, the Comic Series and Action Packs were great fun when they came out--but not to do over and over.

So, I came from a game that was murdered right in it's prime--yes, the graphics were old but the content had grown to be AMAZING and it was still fun! Galaga and Zork are still great fun, and they don't have "cutting edge graphics"--only to find myself in a game that was left in a dumpster shortly after birth. And the tragedy is that, after 8 years of CoH, I can honestly say that I think Champions NOT ONLY has MORE POTENTIAL to be an amazing game, but that it could be with HALF the development investment that went into CoH. It would be frikkin easy!

And I'm tired of the excuses about the Foundry. Color customization was virtually impossible due to code in CoH and they eventually gave us TOTAL color customization. Two colors per power--more than we have in CO.

But, I want a Superhero game, and so here I am. And I'm die-hard and not easy to run off. But what just might do it is that I am more and more coming to the nauseating realization that I'm in a game that was neglected to the point of being a vegetable in it's infancy but put on life-support to eek out residual income.

And, while it's not at all too late to save it and have it grow up to realize it's full wonderful potential, we all know these decisions are made by "corporate". We all know the chances that corporate will do the right thing or make any decision not designed to suck easy money out of us.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope that all of my statements will prove to be wrong-headed and that I am just a fool and I'm missing something. I hope you all get to flame me and say "I told you so" and rub my nose in how wrong I was very, very soon. I would enjoy the warmth of every flame and glory in my nose being rubbed in the awesome new content.

    Here's hoping...

    Here.... here!!

    completely agree with this sentiment...

We want this game to get better... to grow to shine to fly up and live up to its potential... It can easily be better than CoH... but it is not at the moment... period.

Please... please start doing something with the game... hell.. get Matt Miller -.-

I quite understand your frustration. And truthfully I was hoping you would hold out a little longer before joining the ranks of us 'bittervets'.

Whenever I see a new CO player come to the forums and start telling us that things are not so bad and we are going to "get new stuff soon". I sooo want to believe them. Even though I try to shoot down their arguments, I so want to be proven wrong and have glorious new content and bugfixes galore!

    CO has such potential.

In the end, lets enjoy what we have. Have fun! Who knows when they will "turn out the lights".

The other games out there (DCUO and soon Marvel) just don't have the customization of powers and character appearance that I want.

The day a new superhero MMO comes out with character customization similar to CO, but with new content, myself and many others will leave. It's really what is keeping me here--I can make tons of toons with a massive variety of powers, themes, and appearance. It's my favorite part of the game. Once another game succeeds in that realm, CO is done.

I hope that such a new game will be Champions 2, but it likely won't be.

I?m right there with you man?

I wasn?t able to put my finger on it until you mentioned the Cartoon network reference. I grew up reading Wolfman and Perez?s Teen Titans, not watching Teen Titans-GO! This whole game has way too many joke references and attempts at humor for my tastes. Sure COH/V had some humor, but over all it took itself seriously.

I loved CoH/V and even though I would spend a month or two exploring a new MMO when it came out I always went back to CoH/V.

I bought a Lifetime Subscription to CO while the game was still in beta based only on how incredible a job Cryptic had done creating CoH. I even played this game exclusively for the first year hoping that the next patch would finally elevate the game to where I knew it could be. It never seemed to get there though. And the biggest disappointment was once I got my first character to level 40 and started my second; all the content was the same as I had already done.

I just received an email from a buddy of mine this morning telling me that he?s dropping his subscription to CO. He was the last of my CoH/V friends still here. They all came over when CoH/V was shut down and most didn?t last two months.

I?ll be back from time to time to see what?s happening. But I also agree with the OP, once you play through once it gets boring.

You've taken the blue pill. You woke up from the Matrix.

Congratulations. We're proud of you. Now, do it like i do -

Leave the game for a while. Come back when you really really miss it. And you'll play it until you dont miss it anymore. And then you leave. This is, unfortunately, not the kind of game that keeps you for long. It should be, but its not. (Thanks Devs!)

And when you take your break, however long it might be, I ask only one favor of you. Could you find it in your heart, during your sojourn away from Millennium City, to not continue to haunt the forums repeating endlessly your dissatisfaction with the game? I think we're pretty well fixed for folks like that around here...

I', still levelling alts and I have a email RP with a freind. Over 150 word documents as we weave new characters into the storylines.

He just met 2 new ones and we were coming up with explanations for them while doing missions.
