Questionite-Based MacGuffins for Trading

As someone who underestimated how much a full powers RetCon would take in the form of Resources, causing a delay in normal heroic activities, I did some thinking about the game's economy.

With Resources being the only tradeable currency, and with Slivers only being able to possess limited amounts of them, it seems that Comic Keys have become the de facto alternative.

However keys are linked to Zen, which is primarily linked to real-world cash, and if someone inexperienced buys a whole bunch of Zen with their cash, and converts that Zen to keys, only to be ripped off in a trade that is fairly miserably event to happen.

So my suggestion is to have a trading object based on Questionite that can be minted at the Questionite Exchange, traded amongst players and converted back to Questionite. I propose to call it the MacGuffin, a stock name for important plot items.

You would mint and redeem a MacGuffin with the help of a resource cost, which would further link it to currencies associated with gameplay rather than real-world cash expenses. This would also act as a sink.

New players could enter this market by being told they have to earn Questionite and they could be sent to the Questionite Exchange to mint or redeem a MacGuffin. More experienced players could convert real-world cash to Zen and Zen to Questionite and Questionite to MacGuffins, of course.

I post this, admittedly, as a Silver player very reluctant to trade in keys.

Superhero stories, done well, are about modern archetypes.

Much better would simply be to update the Z-store with the oft-requested increase in Resource limit for Silvers.

That might just cause inflation, pushing the prices of the more desired items beyond what a Sliver can raise again unless the increases exactly matches that of a Gold.

At the end of the day resources only have so many uses.

You say that you're Silver. I assume that means you're an AT. That means that the RetCon actually cost less than it would have if you were a Freeform. Paying for a full RetCon on a Freeform with resources is incredibly expensive.

I would recommend looking into buying a Hideout. Using the Questionite Exchange, you can get one with no cash expenditure in as little as 16 days (though this requires maxing out your Questionite on a single character every day for that time). This will allow you to store resources above the per-character limit, and also transfer account-bound items between characters.

When RetConning, you can buy 250G worth of RetCon, then go to the Hideout, get more resources, and repeat until finished. Inconvenient, but workable. It's also the closest thing we've got to a Resource Cap Increase.

Game's economy's already beyond busted because of the vendor exploit from a few years back. unless they literally pull millions of G out of the economy, there's no fixing that. It's like 300ish people in the game found a way to print free money.

Yeah, absolutely, g cap increase. We're one of the only free to play systems in existence, and the only pwe title I can think of, that doesn't offer such a service.

I originally was building up Zen for a two extra slots to add to my Silver account but a last week or so I bought a Penthouse Hideout for the shared bank, transferring resources and the quick(ish) return to Millenium City.

My Soldier farmed while my Behemoth slowly continued the RetCon process.

The Hideout was such a success I felt able to get a complete set of Nemesis gear, swapping the Catalyst secondaries between characters.

I'm back to trying to raise enough Zen for two extra slots now although my primary goal probably should be kitting up Behemoth with R7 Silver Champions gear and then working on completing Caliburn Baby Burn! so I can finish the Apocalypse mission.

This is a sound piece of advice, and if I may be so bold, I recommend you get the Penthouse Hideout; It's one of the last hideouts released, has some great RP or general socializing areas within it, and you can fly out the balcony for a quick way of getting to MC from anywhere...

I was not aware of this. It wouldn't have made a difference when I selected my Hideout, because I was selecting one of the free ones included with my subscription, but I may have to pick one up when I have some extra Zen some time.
Is that true for both Penthouses, or just a specific one?

Both. Although both Penthouses are awesome for mix and matching, so buy both. :D

And the free one is only the four 'launch' Hideouts, so you couldn't have picked a Penthouse as it was.

They both have a shower that turns on when you go in it, and there's an option for the balcony that has a hot tub that turns on bubbles when you go into it as well. Oh! And there's the ACTIVATE! (tm) buttons in the office area, (feel free to contact me @biostem in game and I'll invite you to see 1st hand).

Glad to have helped you out with something.

By reputation it works for both of them but I only have the Luxury version.

Essentially the Penthouse is in Millennium City and you can use a travel power to depart via the balcony. Once the instance becomes grey you are offered to travel to Millennium City and you appear in the respawn point between the hospital and the RenCen.

If you have Superjump you have to jump on your building's roof and then jump to an adjacent building's roof to trigger it.
