Question about Telekinetic Maelstrom

I have been using this power extensively for quite a while now..and am really wondering if its a good idea to get rid of due to its ability to cause horrible lag. I have a build that is pretty solid, but I have no idea what power to replace TK maelstrom with since its been a useful opener for crowds.

Don't know if it will fit theme, but you could try Energy Wave with the advantage that knocks enemies to you. Fire it off and then go into an AoE chain while they're in the air/on the ground.

It causes lag? This is news to me. It has never lagged for me before.

Energy Wave (PA set) as a replacement perhaps? As long as do not charge it above 50%, the KB wil not apply if that's a concern, and you'd still be doing comparable damage. It has a 15s cooldown timer that's close to Malestrom's 10s. It's incredibly easy to reduce the cooldown to just a few secs with gear anyway.

When i have used it and it has hit multiple enemys, the tiny rocks can sometimes cause a horrible lag spike.

Specifically, the debris that it generates can cause intensive lag to those with low-end PC or laptop. It can be alleviated only by bringing the fx quality to low, because unfortunately the max debris setting doesn't seem to work with telekinetic maelstrom.

Thanks for info on Power Wave, it seems to work smoothly with my guy, and does the exact thing i was looking for.

I was on my old laptop a few days back and went into a BASH match for lols and wow.. 5 TK maelstroms at once? I sat back and watched my character die as the lag tried to catch up with itself and then watched myself respawn and get killed then it finally reverted back to normal xD

Hey hey, laptops can be high end PCs too! I'm using one...

Don't give me those funny looks, I needed a mobile PC solution :/

On a serious note, I understand now. Thanks.

There's got to be a software fix on Cryptic's side because that horrid lag has come and gone between patches for months now. I've used TK fine for weeks, a patch hits and then its the lag of death, another patch and it's fine again. Anyone else experience this?

They just need to make it obey physics debris limitations again. They keep breaking it somehow. And yeah, currently the only way to avoid the lag is by setting visual FX to Low, which totally eliminates the rocks and most other pretty looking secondary FX from powers.

I rank 3'd my TK maelstrom and I got no lag..neither did my friend...hmm and I was able to see all the rocks etc.

Are there any other powers that include an AoE stun on tap?

That's what I tend to use TK maelstrom for most... an in-concept "oh $*#&" button to get a bit of breathing room when I'm soloing and bite off a few more mobs than I can chew.

But currently, the power ends up stunning them for about 2 seconds and lagging me for 8 seconds, so an alternative probably wouldn't be a bad idea. <_<

For an AoE stun on tap try Thunderclap. It's shorter range than Maelstrom (10 or 15 feet depending on if you take the adv) and a slightly longer activation but it cools down faster and can be used on the move. As an added bonus, Thunderclap actually procs Manipulator.

Note: Thunderclap checks which mobs to hit at the beginning of the activation, no leading necessary when running into a group.

You need to be standing near destructable objects, the chairs in ren center do fine. Easiest way to reproduce is to charge it about 1/4 of the way and then block to cancel and repeat a few times until your PC grinds to a halt.

I'll second Thunderclap. Unless you're wanting Ego Leech, it works quite well without lagging everyone to death around you (including you).
