I won't waste any time with background info or anything like that and get straight to the point.
My list of suggestions that would drastically improve player experience are as follow:
1) Moderate and/or remove the "Report Spam" feature because MANY people, including myself at times, get muted for no reason a lot of times other than the fact that someone gets mad for losing a duel or something insignificant like that and has his SG or friends report the player as a means of "revenge". The number of people getting muted is outright ridiculous now.
2) Introduce new acclaim rewards for Hero Games - As many already know, the PvP in this game has taken a huge downward spiral ever since the infamous imbue patch. No offense to any of the devs, but you really killed PvP by nerfing imbue. More than 70% of people who PvPed left the game or no longer do so now because of it. Introduction of new rewards would really help PvP in CO strive because the current rewards are pretty useless in conjunction with 4-slot gear and give no incentive for current or newer players to PvP. My suggestion for new rewards would be to make the 4-slot gear and certain legacy devices (Nueroelectric Pulse Generator, Ice grenades, Eruption, Omicron, Force Field Inducer and Psionic Surge) available by means of acclaim from Hero Games. The reason I say this is because these items are really meant for and most effective in PVP rather than PvE. You can make them available for 250,000-1,000,000 acclaim depending on the item. This would give players incentive to start PvPing again and actually enjoy their experience with it. As of right now, PvP is almost completely dead and the community of players who are regulars is dying.
3) This is the most important one in my opinion. PLEASE CHANGE IMBUE BACK TO HOW IT USED TO BE BEFORE YOU NERFED IT - Imbue was one of the key powers for non-AoPM nukers (notice that I said nukers, not maintainers) to get on par with their the AOPM counterparts, most likely because it could give you the opportunity to not worry much about crit chance and let you focus on the other needed requirements, it worked very well with INT primary even with the loss of some STR. It is already hard for these specific builds to spread all the stats and features to AoPM level, and Imbue was making it easier while using a very different scheme.
On most of Avenger-nuker builds, if you meet all the defensive requirements including STR primary you won't have the energy to spike anyone down, gathering INT and cost discount to be able to do so will get you vulnerable especially if you give up STR for it. With Imbue you could afford to go INT and fill all the requirements, trading some defensive abilities for massive, defense-penetrating, damage (12k Ebon Ruins as an average), and this on a relatively short cooldown compared to EGO Surge which is often predictable. The pre-nerf Imbue heal related bug was actually very useful to get the needed sustain through crit-healing as Ranged DPS (Avenger) got some very little healing with no role bonus nor extra PRE.
The imbue nerf, did not do anything to increase the number of viable powers in PvP or PvE. Instead, they pretty much got removed from the equation. What are the powers which made their ways into PvP and more a lot of PvE builds? They are the ones which have been buffed or newly released. I do not need to give specific examples unless you are new to the game. All the nerf did was make imbue complete trash and basically not used anymore by the majority. Not to mention it completely destroyed an entire build which I, along with others, thought was a very fun and effective build, Force Cascade.
I personally am extremely against any kind of nerfs in this game as it does nothing but ruin it for the players.
Imbue is just one example, before that it ego storm, empathetic healing and so on. The only positive nerf in my opinion that has benefited the game was enrage. I think the idea of nerfing should be scrapped and the devs should focus on BUFFING powers instead. Although, with the exception of imbue, I feel that the powers are fine the way they are.
I, along with MANY MANY others both in the PvP and PvE communities strongly and firmly believe that imbue needs to go back to how it was before the nerf. Please for the love of god, if you don't do anything else in this game in terms of powers, PLEASE at least change back imbue.
4) Remove the que limit for Hero Games - I think this speaks for itself. Many times there are a bunch of us who want to play hero games but cannot play things like Stronghold or UTC because there is a minimum requirement of players needed. This is counter-productive because I thought you want us to enjoy all parts of the game? We cannot enjoy an entire part because in order to do so, we have to depend on X number of other players.
Those are a few of my suggestions to help improve the current state of the game and also to boost the reputation or PvP in the game. I really hope you devs see this and consider these suggestions because I guarantee you will get more business and a greater number of positive player experiences from implementing these.
Wasn't imbue nerfed because it basically gave you a tp that was immune to nttg?

I dunno... a power that guarantees a crit still seems really good. Plus, I recall an issue with it not being consumed when used w/ some powers.

No. Imbue was nerfed because to be completely blunt, a bunch of people cried after losing to builds that used imbue, saying that it did not consume on heals. So in other words, for 12 seconds, you have crit heals every time you heal yourself along with an "on next hit" crit hit which made it somewhat on par with the AOPM boost you get. I explain this all in my original post.
Also, I don't agree at all with the ascension nerf either. I'd also like to see that restored. Nerfing in general is a terrible idea, if anything, powers need to be buffed not nerfed. Like i mention.
I really doubt that the Imbue change was the source of the PvP, "downward spiral."
PvP in CO was on a downward spiral long before the change to Imbue. This downward spiral was concealed for a while when PVEers became convinced that the best gear in the game was available as PvP rewards. The removal of such rewards from PvP returned that aspect of CO to its downward spiral (and accelerated it by removing what rewards had existed).
The Imbue nerf did not kill PvP in CO, On Alert did. I know that seeing millions of acclaim worth of gear become obsolete overnight, without being replaced by something worthwhile, was a killer for me.

I agree with you, nothing is more fun than duelling a good FC toon. I can still remember the day we fought at the hospital, like 100+ duels in a row haha. Oh and ascension actually got buffed not nerfed. Nttg affection was needed, and in exchange it has gotten a heal i would not call this a nerf more like a bug fix.

Thanks, and yeah I remember. Good old days buddy. Oh I was under the impression that it got nerfed since whenever someone uses NTTG and I have ascension up, the buff disappears from my buff line. Which makes me think the heal disappears too...

The imbue nerf isn't the MAIN cause, but it does play a big factor in why PvP in this game is in the current state. As you see in the OP, I did suggest to revamp the PvP acclaim rewards though.
Lets hope the devs actually do SOMETHING about it.

Yes I will not consider Imbue change a source of PvP decline. However in that already small pool of PvPer prior to the change, after the change was implemented I did notice quite a number of the imbue users left the game. I was almost tempted to leave too because hours of farming mods and gear went to waste and like you said after watching millions of acclaim gear become obsolete and refarming, cycles after cycles of such time and effort wasted can be most frustrating.

I see what you are saying there. Good point. If the OP's experience of CO PvP was the post On Alert period, I can see how he might think that Imbue killed it.
OP,
I stopped PvPing (with only the rarest of exceptions) after On Alert so I cannot comment knowledgeably on the affect of the Imbue nerf on the remnants of CO PvP post On Alert. If the Imbue changes were a catalyst for the disintigration of the fragment of CO's PvP that remains, that is unfortunate. I do think that the other aspects of your post, regarding rewards and the like, would have a greater impact on revitalizing PvP here than reversion of Imbue to its previous state.
Whatever the case, I believe that PvP in CO needs, and deserves some positive attention from Cryptic.
Imbue was the one giving 100% crit instead of 12%.
However, I agree the gear needs updating.
There are 2 stats specifically for PvP but the gear isn't updated to be new or have them.
Which is just plain stupid and so is the queue system, which seems to have a problem with launching even if the required people are queued
Does the thought strike anyone else that if one power is that good, that losing it killed the entirety of pvp, maybe it *deserved* a nerf? Because when I read this, all I see is "losing one power killed pvp and nuked 3 super groups. That power was totally balanced, as you can see by how many people quit after it was redone".
100% agreed on them adding the gear back in, and pvp rewards, tho. In my estimation and from my experience, pvp died when there stopped being rewards from it.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.
When they removed the gear, it showed exactly how many people were doing pvp just because they thought it was fun. If it was about the gear, then people would have quickly returned 6 days later when they had all their Unity gear. The fact that folks didn't come flocking back the way they initially flocked in when the gear rewards were upgraded ( and became the best gear in the game ) pre-on alert, shows that many of them were just there for the gear, and not because they were actually having fun. It was just another example of "grind this thing you don't enjoy, so you can get the rewards", similar to what pvpers who don't particularly find pve fun have to endure to farm their legacy devices.
I'll keep saying it... they need to make it so pvp falls in line with the rest of the game as far as character building is concerned, in addition to putting some new gear rewards into it (preferably Unity-level gear), as well as questionite.
As far as Imbue, it's just another example of "Oh, this is a problem... get rid of it". Which is disappointing, because it was an interesting, and importantly an active, mechanic that served to make pvp more multi-dimensional, and less "spam until RNG kicks in". There's no question that it was broken, mechanicly, but I'm sure anyone would tell you that the proper course of action was to fix it.. not remove it entirely; it's just funtastic irony that what they turned it into also turned out to be broken, and still hasn't been fixed, just in the other direction.
You can say a lot of things about the people who left once Imbue was removed ( note, it wasn't nerfed, it was removed and replaced with something that happened to have the same name ), but the fact is that Imbue wasn't taken just because it was powerful/broken/whatever. It was taken because it was interesting, and that's why people left after it was removed. The game needs more interesting mechanics like that, more stuff that breaks the monotony of RNG-based play. Sure, some people left because they would no longer be able to one-shot noobs with giant insta-crits while being invincible with constant crit heals, but I like to think that most people left because of the other reason.
So ya...
- Rewards that are equal to what you can get in pve, so pvpers don't have to pve, and pveers don't have to pvp.
- Get rid of glaring balance issues that keep pvp from being able to support the level of customization that the rest of the game can.
- Stop getting rid of stuff that works and fix it instead... a good start is to bring back imbue, fixed; at the same time, fix the new Imbue and keep it too, just rename it to.... you know, whatever.

This is the first time this discussion has come up that I agree with you to a certain point. However, I still stand behind the notion that imbue needs to come back UNTOUCHED and how it used to be. Everything elses power wise is fine in my eyes. No need to fix stuff that's not broken.

I have an honest question here: Powers can already behave differently depending upon the class of enemy they are used on, (such as some powers only working on villains or lower). Why can't they make powers work differently if used on other players, thereby restoring some powers that were ignored in PvP, (due to players being immune), while at the same time allowing them to restore some powers that were OP, back to their former usefulness, and just changing how they behave on players?
Thanks for your time.

No. Imbue was nerfed because to be completely blunt, a bunch of people cried after losing to builds that used imbue, saying that it did not consume on heals.
