Yes this is another chat mute thread and yes it starts with me getting muted. But stay with me it gets a bit grim. Right first off a few hours ago the joy I felt when a Zombie Apoc pinged. The joy was multiplied X10 when I started as a zombie ( may fave start point ). There was some members of Ultimate Liga all grouped together I just got into the middle of them and let loose an imbued unleashed rage. Took them all out at once. Was the shortest Zombie Apoc I have ever been in. I found myself muted. Wasn't to bothered as someone who PvP's now and then I expect to be muted now and then and besides I talk to the peeps I run mmo's with via XFIRE so no real hardship for me.
Well I told my buddies that the Ultimate Liga where sore losers as you would do BUT I also added I most likely deserved it because I did bind the phrase "suck on this badgerbums!" to said Unleashed rage the mute was my own doing
So I have no real ill will to those I fought against. Fairs fair.
Well later that day I was talking to my 12 year old niece via SKYPE she was asking me about builds for her Werewolf toon and what powers were best for said toon ( I got her a free form slot for her birthday ) while she was also speaking to her buddies in local in ren cen. At that moment some of my crew turn up and they start calling my niece names in local. Took me a second to figure out why she had her initials in her @TAG, initials that just happen to be BR. Next thing I know shes muted and starts to cry because of it. By that time my XFIRE fires up and I rage like I have never raged before at my so called pals.
They said they didnt know she wasn't from Brazil and that it was a revenge attack for me being muted. Yes you heard right these idiots were going about muting people just because of where they come from. Not only did they mute a child and caused her to cry they are also bigots.
Needless to say they where ignored and reported ( ironic thing is two them ended up muted due to the ignore
). I have sort of fixed things for my niece I told her if she and her buddies got XFIRE they could chat as normal and it can be used with other games. This cheered her up somewhat.
Chat mute system doesnt work it just cause people to mute each other out of retaliation and people who are innocent bystanders get caught in the crossfire.
Indeed Cryptic if this is your "working as intended" your the biggest bunch of Villains in CO.

I am sorry, but the system works, and those getting chat bans surely deserve, them.
Modify your behavior and I am sure the "problem" will go away.
Edit I did get chat banned in never winter beta for spamming emotes when I was testing them.
You obviously didnt read the thread did you I aint moaning about my chat ban I actually said I deserved mine. You just posted without thinking. But my niece? The peeps getting muted because they are from a certain area of the world? Should they modify their behavior? You sir are an idiot.

Put them on ignore and don't stay in the same zones as they are.
I dunno, I am a chatty nancy myself, and I haven't hit the issue yet.
I am quite certain I am on quite a few ignore lists too.
And "avoiding those players" may sound like advice in your own ears - but between PUGs in PvP and Alerts, and the fact that these people don't all wear labels that say "Misusers of Chat Bans", that's kind of hard to do. Particularly when some of those misusers, as Nepht stated, are self-appointed vigilantes coordinating mutings of people they suspect are members of other groups that they suspect might be doing things they disapprove of (as with her sister, whose tag includes the initials "BR", which somehow convinced these people she must be Brazilian, and all Brazilians are evil villains who need to be silenced pre-emptively).
Look, the game is fun, the game is great - but Cryptic's policies are not all perfect, all-wise nuggets of joy, okay?

Again ..I am saying I deserved mine. In pvp my taunts are somewhat annoying. And I wasnt near people that abuse me >_>
My friends ( now ex friends ) muted my niece because her initials are BR. As the thread stated I deserved my chat ban she did not deserve hers. Thats my point a lot of people when they get chat banned and or their friends get chat banned they go all vigilante and start report spamming people THEY THINK are to blame, innocent people do get chat banned due to this stupidity.
This isnt a thread about how I didnt deserved muted to be honest I did. This is a thread pointing out the obvious flaws in the system.

Watch someone read what I just said and completely misinterpret it like every time I try to argue about this sort of thing.
There is times I feel like that to. Everyone no matter how excepting to others they are have prejudices. Right or wrong we have them its human nature and thats why the ignore button shouldnt be linked to the report spam. Most of these mutes are down to Cryptic borking the code on these two systems :I

But unfortunately we all know by now that things aren't going to change, like they said, "It's working as intended"
The chat ban system is sort of "hard wired" into all of cryptic's games that share the same chat system, which is STO and CO, and now NWO. So to change it in one, they would have to change it in all of them.
And the problem with that is, that the system is working as intended in all three of them, so if you change it in one, you have to change it in all of them, and then it is no longer working as intended in all three games at once! I mean seriously, have you ever considered the implication of fixing what many see to be a "problem" in all three games at the same time?
To put it in mathematical terms.
(NWO*WAI)+(CO*WAI)+(STO*WAI)=NWOWAI+COWAI+STOWAI
(NWO/0)+(CO/0)+(STO/0)=ERROR
And so that's why it can't be fixed.

I'm pretty sure the reason you've never been chat banned is because you don't actually play the game and this is a dummy account you post on as an alter ego to your main account.
But feel free to correct me with some screenshots of you and your friends having fun or whatever if I'm wrong.
No really, it would actually give me some validation on whether you're real or not. Because I seriously have doubts.

But with my niece I think what made me explode with rage was actually seeing her expressions via SKYPE when she realized shes been muted and couldn't continue to chat with her little group of friends. She did nothing other than have her name initials in her @tag that just happen to be BR.
Then we have an idiot like Hocofaisan say in this forum she should modify her behavior and she deserved it.
Want to know what her behavior is in CO. It involves her going up to people and asking them to be friends. But I suppose to someone like Hoco thats abnormal behavior.

The fact is, even if you "avoid them", they can STILL chat ban you. And you have NO recourse!

I mean, if you are having a dull conversation about your cats with someone on local, you might end up chat banned. BAM.
Now you can't talk, you can't communicate with supergroup folks, you can't even send pm to friends saying 'hey, I got banned.'
You get utterly shut down just because some people don't want to listen.
I was astounded when I found this out a few months ago. That makes so little sense I expect most players don't know about it.
I've been very lucky, myself. I was chat banned only once on STO for some reason, despite getting heated, repeatedly, in pug STFs and cursing out really stupid puggers, routinely bailing on Alerts if people are below level 10, and having heated public conversations.

me too. I tried Wolverine sucks, wolverine blows. I tried disagreeing with people, I've tried inserting random non-relevant comments into conversations... Nothing
The closest I got was someone reporting Private Criptic(after I did), even Captain Chat Ban got no comments until they hit 40,(though I did get people going to the other side of alerts with him)
But I have hopes, once Nevermind is up and running of telling everyone via Trade how the system shouldn't be used. Though, going on the greifers already posting on their forums, it's too late.

To lack any form of compassion for others, or understanding of the nature of the internet... I'm saying this taking into full account your post history and actions in-game as well. You're consistently this... whatever you call it. (not apathetic, because you actually go out of your way to be mean-spirited. Chat ban abuse can happen to anyone for any reason.
Do some of the people getting chat banned deserve it?
Yeah sure. I can think of one in fact, and she makes threads about her imaginary "hate group" constantly in this section of the forums.
But then again I can think of other people who totally did not deserve it, they were just high-profile from advertising Costume Contests on Zone chat that they were hosting. Ask Flare (aka. FortuneFire) how many times he's been chat banned. Caliga and Vizzone are chatty on Zone chat too, but it's all in-character for them as I've seen. I've also known people to be chat banned because they are leaders of SG's or are selling trades for too low a price and it's making certain PvP clans/SGs (I'm not naming names but I know what I'm talking about because they brag about it later) loose profits so they chat ban the competition. This is actually pretty common as an amorally competitive seller strategy (and more reason why Silvers need to be able to use the AH fully with Zen-purchasable gold cap increases).

There's a difference though, Jonsills. You don't do things that would raise the risk of getting you chat banned.
You aren't selling DarkSpeeds for 50% off. Talking about politics. Making remarks that could mistakenly be interpreted as racist or sexist. Yelling in all caps. Talking about how {insert game name here} is so much better than Champions. Doing what Caliga does and start talking to people in Zone chat like he's a dictator and they're his servants. Or being high profile in-game. You're known on the forums, but the truth is in-game you're not really a big-name. Most of us on the forums aren't in fact. That's why the term "forumites" we're like our own sub-community. Highly involved in Champions affairs, and care very much about the game as a whole. That's what the majority of forumites have in common. But notoriety in-game? Not guaranteed, as most of the Champions population doesn't bother to use to the forums, for various reasons.
Not sure if that reasoning makes sense to you... but yeah. If you ever want to find out, just ask random friendly people you team with if they've ever heard of you. >95% of the time it seems the answer is no they've never heard of you. That means your odds of getting chat banned are pretty low. Your odds of getting chat banned if you never use Zone chat, or hardly use it, is even lower!
I personally save my criticisms for the forums as much as I can, because then I can write them down at length and for completeness. Plus having it on the forums means there's a record, on that you can even Google search! In-game? It would just disappear (unless somebody saved the chat log), it's ephemeral. I know I come off as a hardliner on the forums, but in-game I'm a whole lot more smiley, generous, try to stay out of drama, and helpful to newbies. In fact, I recently gave my permanent Dragon Staff to a total newbie who I was helping level and was starting to love these missions thing (I found them trying to do Alerts and failing bad at it).

You're missing the point JonSills: there shouldn't even BE an "odds of getting chat ban" to be considered!
Nobody. NOBODY deserves to be subjected to a player-controlled, 24-hr chat suspension in a MMO game. If it was a FPS game, you'd just leave the private server. But you can't leave the server in a MMO game because it's a public server.
Private v. Public server. That's really the crux of it. There's a different set of rules for public and private stuff.
Private servers? As long as you can keep the population and pay for the server? Do whatever the hell you want with rules.
Public? Yeah no, only the company running them should be calling the disciplinary shots.
I also protested the "punishing" of "reloggers" by SPECTRE and Altered Egos back last year at this time, if you recall. And I took a ton of heat for it, because these SG's were VERY powerful and influential back then.
I'm consistent in my stance on the ability for others to play the game as they want.
In fact, Ashensnow used this fact about me to persuade my opinion on Lucy's "Remove Smash Alerts" topic from "for" to "against". He essentially argued (better than I can summarize it here) that removing Smash Alerts would be removing something others might genuinely enjoy in the game. It's hard to refute my agreeance with that, so my opinion had to change. In short, ensuring enjoyment of the game for others was more important to me than my own dislike of Smash Alerts.
So when I see comments like Hocofaisan's, it genuinely makes me loathe and pity him.

I am sure that the 12 year old girl who was banned for her initials deserved it.
I am sure that the Costume Contest host who was banned because one of those who didnt win decided to get some revenge deserved it as well.
I am sure that the people who have been banned while not even in game deserved it.
I am sure that the voluntary community moderator who was banned because certain individuals didnt like his decision to edit their forum posts to deserved it as well.

Oh, and Agent, I have discussed politics in Chat. And religion. I've defended the proposition that Wolverine sucks, and that Spawn sucks even worse for many of the same reasons. I think it's just that I remain calm and reasonable during those discussions - people seem to respond in kind. (Well, that and when it becomes plain that arguing with someone is getting me nowhere, I go run missions for a while...)

I hate to sound... no actually I kinda like sounding like a **** from time to time. Why exactly did they think br players did it, again? I caught the answer in your first post, but I want you to repeat it for emphasis before you call other people out for being racist. They didn't chat ban you because you accidentally trolled. They ignored you because you irritated them, and they're *Brazillian*. I feel like mentioning the sg wouldn't matter as much if it were to be, say, one of the new champions sgs. Not that I've had the best luck with liga myself, but I sure as hell wouldn't call em out on a chat channel for muting me without proof. And even then, you said yourself: you deserved it. They can't help that they ignored you, you obviously pissed em off. Your friends are the ones who need to be punished.
You've got a following in game, and called for it. Politely, I suggest: think before you *****. Apparently that gets kids muted. I'm not even gonna ask the obvious about the age of said kids.
I mean, you created a taunt on a bind that killed an entire sg, used it on em in pvp, and got mass ignored. You got muted, and blamed the *SG* for it in channel (by your own admission) and then they went after what might be the same people that hit you. This is ouroboros, because then someone you care about was hit by it in response. The serpent eats its own tail.

Upside? You seem to have caught what caused it, and told the people who did the chat ban where the door was. That now makes you my hero, because most people just laugh about that sorta thing. No offense, but if it wasn't your niece, I wonder what woulda been your response?

Secondly I have raged at Cryptic before about innocent people getting muted in many a thread. If it was someone elses niece I would be equally pissed off. All the tickets I put in didnt not involve my ban. Someone must have looked at the chat logs and went nah that doesnt warrant a bannage.
I never disputed my ban and "my followers" that did that to my niece and others were unfriended, reported and kicked from my group.
