Silver to Gold Questions

greyerskiesgreyerskies Posts: 60 Arc User
Hi guys,

I've played for a few months on Silver, and I'm about to subscribe and go Gold. I did some research around the forums, but there were a lot of old threads, out-dated information and references to bugs which (I assume) have since changed or been fixed. So if anyone who's gone from Silver to Gold can give me a clearer picture of some of the specifics, I'd appreciate it.

1. Converting/re-building to Freeform at level 40: is this a full rebuild, including Superstats, innate characteristics, Energy Builder, etc?

2. Since my Silver characters are both at level 40, are there any complications in gaining the level-based Gold benefits when converting to Gold FF? Eg, additional two costume slots, build slots? (I assume, since they reached level 40 on Silver, the additional character slots for reaching 40th on Gold will not be added retroactively?)

3. I've already purchased a hideout from the C-Store; will I still gain an additional (free) hideout when going Gold?

Thanks!

Here's how, as far as I'm aware, it is currently supposed to work:

    1. If you do convert Silver chars to Gold freeform on the selection screen, it should be a full retcon. I've never actually tried this myself, so not sure how much of it you do basically at character selection and how much you do in-game. (It may be you need to do the actual ret-con at the PH, which imo would be the best way, anyways)

    2. All gold freeform benefits are supposed to pop retroactively, both costume slots and the "Icon" perk with the extra character slot. I can confirm this working for a Silver to Gold archetype conversion. (Okay, this being Cryptic, can't rule out there might be a bug keeping it from happening on an archetype to freeform conversion, but in that case, you'd definitely have a case with CS.)

    3. You should get a free selection available in the C-store (possibly just visible in-game, not sure about that). Can't actually confirm this I was originally pre-F2P subscriber so already had it when I got back for a Silver to Gold switch.

    1. When you subscribe, all your Silver characters will become unplayable until you convert them to Gold. There are three ways to do this:
-Same AT: Nothing changes. Continue playing the game as normal.
-Change AT: Select any AT. All your powers, superstats, specializations, and talents are removed, as if you did a full Retcon. This uses your free Retrain Token.
-Freeform: As above, except that you'll be a freeform instead of an AT.

If you change back to Silver, you can choose Same AT or change AT. Same requires that you be a free AT, or that you have already purchased the AT if it's a Premium AT. This doesn't use a Retrain Token. Change AT functions as above, but a liading screen tip says that the Retrain Token isn't needed if changing from Freeform or unowned AT to a free one. I have never tested this.

2- Silvers don't get the Icon perk when they hit 40. Icon is what triggers all the benefits, not getting to 40. On logging in, you'll be granted Icon and all associated befenits. Converting the character back to Silver will take away Icon. If you unsubscribe and leave the character Gold, you'll lose access to them, but you'll keep the extra character slot. WARNING! Converting the character to Silver or deleting it will make you lose the slot! If you have too many Silver characters when you do this, I've heard that the extra one will be DELETED. I have not tested this. Be careful.

3- The free Hideout is claimed through the hideouts menu, not the Z-Store. I imagine that you can still claim it, but my only hideout is the free one, so I can't confirm.

I switched between Gold and Silver a few times before buying my LTS. Anything I stated as fact is based on my own experience.

If you go Gold, then drop back to Silver, you will still have access - of sorts - to all the toons you created as a Gold. If you don't convert them to ATs you own, you won't be able to do anything with them (I have four Gold toons right now just sitting there, waiting until I go Gold again). You can convert more toons to Silver than you have Silver slots; this puts the converted toon into a sort of "virtual" character slot. If you then delete the toon, the slot will be gone. Lost my very first character that way.

You can convert as many toons as you have Silver slots without this being a problem. During my last bout of being Gold, I used my stipend and some purchased Points to buy extra slots; done that a few times since as well, so I now have 11 slots available to me as a Silver. (The fun part is that when I go Gold again, I'll have those slots in addition to the ones I get for Gold. If I get the LTS I'm after, that will be sixteen more slots...)

Thanks very much all, that seems pretty clear. I don't intend to play as Silver again, but I'll keep in mind the finer points of converting back and forth just in case.

From what i notice that converting from gold to silver back, i noticed that the new character slots you earn at level 40 from the Silver Freeform slot, seems are temporary, i seem to miss those ones i earned.

Because i left some gold characters on it, then i though, "Eh, i'm not gonna go Gold again anyway, so gonna erase those fillers i had." then i noticed that.

Unfortunately, this appears not to be the case.

I subscribed after playing for about a month, and decided to pick a hideout. I didn't like any of the free ones for the character I was on, so I bought one for that character. And now there's no free hideout option for any of my characters. It appears you lose the free option if you buy one before using it.

So if you want one of the free ones, get it BEFORE you buy any.

Actually I was just now able to claim a free hideout from the hideouts menu, so at least in my case that seems to be working as stated by flamingbunnyman.

Everything else went smoothly too. Thanks again folks.

Had you already bought one of the premium ones before you claimed the free one? I'd be ecstatic if I was wrong. I wanted a basic basement for one character, to fit his backstory.

Looks like they did to me!

Are you still gold? Even if you were previously gold, silvers cannot select a free hideout, though they do keep it if they select one while gold, then drop to silver.

Yup! I'd purchased the Industrial Cave as a Silver player, and was able to choose from the following for free, in the hideouts menu, after logging in as Gold:

    Mom's Basement
    Tech Moon Base
    Mystic Sanctum

And possibly one of the caves? I picked the moon base, as it'll fit a robot/mech type character I plan to make.
