Wrist Bolter vs Power Bolt

I am creating a power Armor character and was wondering what anyones opinions are on these two Energy Builders.

I have run a few PA builds using both to mid 20s. From my own experience I like the style of Wrist Bolter better, but seem to feel that somehow Power Bolt is more effective at building energy. Its like its faster, maybe thats in my mind?

But I saw one thing for Wrist Bolter I am really curious about. It can be turned into a hand slot. Does that mean it costs no energy when functioning as a hand slot? I know it does not build energy, but I am curios what the energy activation cost is for it. Is it free? Because then it would be the perfect pew pew to add on the boss as the AoE lays into the mob. I Like to ST the boss suring AoE, but that blue bar can disappear fast.

I prefer Wrist Bolter, Automated Assault adv with Endurance trees Kickdown. You just put Bolter on auto and keep getting energy while doing dmg and then just blast away with rest of the arsenal.
    But that's just me.

As for building energy, they're roughly the same. WB ticks every 0.5 seconds, the first hit builds 14% energy, and subsequent hits build 10% energy. PB builds 14% on the first hit, and 7% on subsequent hits. But the first tick has 0.5 activate time, and subsequent hits are 0.34 second intervals. So roughly the same overall.

As mentioned above, Automated Assault on Writ Bolter is great with Kickback in Endurance spec. Rock Mini-Gun and Micro-Munitions with it and you've got pewpewpewpew all day long. It is free, but it doesn't generate energy. Kickback with your other toggles will keep you going. Along with Concentration and Overdrive.

That said, I do prefer Power Bolts on character's using "plasma beam" type damage. You can't run Automated Assault with Concussor Beams after all. Wrist Bolter also looks better on "giant robot" type characters than, say, an Iron Man homage.

Here's a build I've been working on based on this idea. Tactical Missiles because burst damage is always nice. Sustaining Mini-Gun + Micro Munitions is the key though. Reconstruction Circuits and Bionic Shielding as thematic heals. Chest Beam for the debuff. Imbue and Targeting Computer because Endurance Spec doesn't give crit severity. Could take Quarry too, but I wanted to stay themey. INT is great in the build to reduce costs (something PA desperately needs), and cooldowns on your AOs. REC taken as the other Secondary SS because Hardened in END spec gives enough bonus HP for a DPS and having bonus equilibrium is a great thing for PA to have. It also will greatly fuel Overdrive. Masterful Dodge > Unbreakable, even though UB would be better for theme... but it sucks too much. Evasive Maneuvers (Slight of Mind) is too good to pass up in any DPS build. Talents are to the most DEX possible.

I just wish they'd put the "improved" animation for Wrist Bolters back in...

I dislike the "gonna hug ya" look they went back to.

Yeah, the animation on Wrist Bolters is why my PA character has always used Force Bolts. It's also worth noting that giving up your hand slot to use Automated Assault + Kickback does cost you a lot of damage from not using Tac Missiles / Power Gauntlet / Concussor Beams. It's possible to build to have minimal energy issues while running all three slots with actual damage powers, and you also don't have to use END primary.

Yeah, I looked again at the numbers, and of course the Pew Pew from any energy builder is gonna add minimal to the mix. I think I will take the bolter for thematic reasons, and not invest anything in it. My build is CON/REC/END with Overdrive and by 20 I should be able to run a decent amount of multiple toggle attacks at a crowd simultaneously.
