A Foundry Author's Promise

edited February 2013 in Champions Online Discussion
For every month that Cryptic does not release a brand new event or content, I will create AT LEAST ONE comic length mission for the community to play. I will also get my SG and SG affiliates to promote and set up coordinated Zone events to promote and get players into each released mission I create ON TOP of the featured Foundry System I may benefit from.

The catch of course provided that there is a Foundry with full features to do it with.

Make it happen by Christmas and it will make up for the past year and the months to come leading up to it.

I cannot pledge the same production schedule - but I can promise that given a Foundry, I will immediately begin crafting the best interactive stories of which I am capable. They will tie into the lore established for this game, and ideally there will be more than one path to success. And none of them will be of the "collecting bear butts" nature.

I've spoken elsewhere of the various plotlines I already have cooking in my head...

I will make slapsticks about bumbling sidekicks, and dim villains foiling their own plans. The heroes need only wait for the bad guys to defeat themselves and collect phatt lewt.

But there will be a twist! There's always a twist...

Oh and there will be gratuitous violence and talking chickens.

As someone who does flash games and very much enjoyed CoX's foundry, i can promise i will supply more content, than this whole game currently contains. I dont joke.

I made content for my own NWN1 and NWN2 games, as well as for NWN2 servers.

I will definitely be a Foundry worker if CO gets it.

I want to make missions that will allow CO characters to pursue a villain story-arc.

I'd make fun stories and try to make more unique boss fights... keyword being try. :S If there's a way to break free from the usual tank 'n spank, I'm gonna use it!

As someone that played NWN1* offline modules and PW/Social, etc. servers extensively, I pledge that I will leech on ya'll's creations that you will generously provide for our community to give them purpose and a reason for being.

What?!? I'm just being honest about my laziness when it comes to actual dedicated work like creating a whole playable game module**

*I hated NWN2 so I barely played it and eventually moved on from NWN after NWN1 started dying out
**but yeah, I may give the Foundry a twirl and create a mish or two if I can come up with something. Though, my first creation is probably gonna be a test run just to try out the tools and familiarize myself with them.

PS: Now, can I have my Guardian of Neverwinter Pack? What? You telling me this isn't the Comment to Win: Will you be playing content from the Foundry in Neverwinter? thread? >.>

I pledge to make quick rumbles with tough, tighter-than-tights villains, but they will take a half hour to run because the villains will have amazing, rambling monologues.

Remember, the villain is never a villain in his own eyes - he's just misunderstood.

I pledge to go through and spread the word about as much content as you fine folks generate...as long as none of you use unskippable cutscenes...cause if you do I promise to hunt you down in game and seal you inside of a lockbox.

If I'm around and we get a Foundry, I'll construct a few missions for it. I have quite a few ideas, a few of them should be good.

I'm sure I could spew up some sort of story...

It's not like I've spent a couple years making UGC for other games and would love to design something for CO, nope, not at all.

Why would I want to put time and money into that when the devs have all but abandoned this game?

That said, I would run and create missions as well for everyone to hopefully enjoy.

Assuming we ever GET such a Foundry here.

When I played City of Heroes, I made three Mission Architect arcs per month for my supergroup that were essentially role playing hooks. (We were a mercenary company on redside, so these were contracts.)

I would *love* to do the same here in Champions Online. So if we get it ported to Champions, consider me as another author that would jump on it.

I love to create content. I know I would spend most of my time in the foundry.

I'm sure everyone will be too busy playing Cosmic Farms anyway to see mine.

Well... As much as I'd like to make my own wacky adventures, I'd probably lack the commitment and time to do so. It's a fun idea, though.

I'd love to make my own adventures with the Foundry as well, but with more of a "classic" super hero theme, rather than this militaristic/faction based stuff we have now.

Mind you, I'm not criticizing what we have currently, I'm just not that into it. I guess I just prefer fighting against maniacal super villains & their over-exaggerated "fool-proof" schemes rather than, let's say, Viper.

Anyways, while I'm not holding my breath, I do wish we would get this.

Oh good. You didn't say "Telepathy Now". I was afraid you were going to derail another thread with that. How's that going for you, by the way?

There are plenty of authors who want to put dedication into using the Foundry to make the game more fun for everyone. But there was bound to be someone who would try and spoil a somewhat positive mood in a thread from staying that way.

Yes, yes, Telepathy is more important than the Foundry.

STO has the stats to prove the significant benefits of the Foundry. And we want to outdo those results here on CO.

I know it. Players know it. Devs know it.

But hoping for something they haven't confirmed (hell even if it WAS confirmed.. until its SEEN on live and IMPLEMENTED accurately) it's just hopes.. hopes that for the most part Cryptic has done a good job of crushing.

I'll give praise when praise is due.. not when I'm hoping for it.

The response from the high heads has been "it would be nice for champions but we are not developing Foundry for CO". So why make all these stump speeches on the campaign for things we know cannot be promised?

Why? For the same reason people thread-crap in these hopeful threads.

People post their thoughts and feelings in online forums, looking for people that feel about the same. People like to express their hopes.

Also, people like to express their disdain.

In fact, hobo, by your reasoning, it is pointless for you to even comment on these threads that you think are pointless.

grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference

I suppose it all comes down to PWE executives. But I am much wiser now having been duped by them before. But if you want to find out the way I did (the hard way) I welcome you to it.

You seem to have this underlying assumption that those of us that are either hopeful or using the forums as a sounding-board are naive.

We aren't. We are well aware of how the game has been handled. We post in other threads about our frustrations, annoyances, and doubts.

Some of us have more than one thing to say, however.

Short, pointed, repetitive speech works best as form of protest if history has proven anything.

    "What do we want:

A well thought out plan that is executed admirably with high attention to detail and communication

    When do we want it:

At a time that is convenient to the financial stability to the game's overall population and fiscal health to the shareholders of the parent company!"

    Is much less effective than

    TELEPATHY NOW

And how's that been working out for you, Jay? Lots of good results on getting your Telepathy powers?

The one hope about Foundry is that 1) it's 'sexier' to have new content like that than, say, a Telepathy bug fix/balance pass, 2) Cryptic is all up in the whole Foundry thing with other properties, and 3) a Foundry investment could relieve some pressure on further content.
