...for a company that cares more about making a great game than making the biggest profit.
There have been several. They've all gone bankrupt and folded. Turns out that creditors, power companies, ISPs, grocery stores, et al., don't much care about how artistic and committed you are. They like money.

No other game has the level of customization that CO does. They release new things on a regular basis. Look at other games, they just don't compare to CO.

I think you took the comment to the extreme, saying if a company for gaming isn't out to make the biggest profit but for the game itself, they must not be trying to make any profit at all.
You can have a company more committed to the game more than making large profits without them struggling because they are smart and know when and where to add a cost to keep themselves afloat.
Jagex used to be one such company, at the start, but while they still live, they've gone down badly in reputation.

1 year is not a "Regular" basis. other games can come up with new content weekly while CO barely releases even simple things monthly.
The joke is funnier if you don't address it directly.

best is a measure with a lot of subjectivity, but id say clover studios made a number of games that were critically acclaimed but didn't resonate with the broad crowds, I'd happily call okami the best game of the ps2/xbox/gc era. . and well, paragon studios.

Ugh... Jonsills why...? Why you got to say foolish stuff like this?
False.
*/me sighs and begins explaining why...*
This is a inductive reasoning fallacy. It's also false because you said "all" and "all gone bankrupt". Using "all" or "never" is something they teach you not to do in college and even highschool because it almost guarantees a successful rebuttal. You also don't know how many went bankrupt, came back to being profitable later, or were bought (aquisition, i.e.: how EA grew so big).
Also, It depends on your definition of what consitutes a company that "cares about their customers" and artistic vision, but almost all game companies start out like that.
Over time as they get bigger and business-bueaurocrats (sp?) rise in the ranks they start focusing more on profit margins than artistic vision and that's where the disconnect between the devs & CS and players begins.
Many companies however keep their artistic vision and are plenty profitable (how much they care about their customers varies depending on who you ask but the vast majority would say their developers care about their customers "more than most").
I would argue that the following are all success cases that prove you wrong Jonsills: Valve, Bioware, Insomia Studios (i.e.: Rachet & Clank, Psychonauts), Bungie, and iD Software (the original FPS creators are STILL employees). They're not perfect, I imagine there's several unhappy customers. But they are much more connected with their players than Cryptic/PerfectWorld (limited to one guy who seems to be nice & helpful named TrailTurtle).
Champions Online has the best character customization when it comes to diverse costume piece selections and power combinations. I personally think this is the best MMO in that regard.

Especially if said game had staff that had regular communication with their customers, and in that serious problems are fixed quickly.

It was very fun to me while I played it. The only thing that stopped me is my new found stance on paying subs.

Rift has a 'free for first 20 levels,' but my one old character is 30+ and I don't feel like playing a game knowing there's a looming brick wall.
And there was something about the game that didn't quite grab me, despite a bunch of stuff I thought worked very well.
