Hi everyone. I'm not new.. far from it. I've been playing since closed beta and have a lifetime sub. But i'm back after a long hiatus and for the life of me I can't grasp/undersatnd/figure out how to get a vehicle.

I have 4 or 5 level 40 characters and none of them have a vehicles because I don't get how they work.

Can someone give me a simple list of bullet points or instruction or point me to a resource so I can get a hoverbike like the one in this weekend's event for my characters?

    Drifter Salvage, Lockboxes, or Auction.

You have a chance to get a bike from the Hoverbike Arsenal Lockboxes that you find from any mob in the game. You open these with Cosmic Keys you can buy for 100 zen or 900zen for 10. You can also find keys in the auction for about 150+G.

Drifter also sells bikes, but the best ones go for around 200 Drifter Salvage. Drifter Salvage comes from the same lockboxes mentioned above, but at a rate of around 2.8 salvage per box. Not very economical unless you've got lots of Questionite to convert to zen for lots and lots of keys.

Also some of the older vehicles can be bought straight from the C Store for about 15 buck apiece, I think.

money or time (farming q to trade for zen, or G to buy from other players)

Also, Grav Bikes aren't that rare on lockboxes, I have opened only 2 and in each there was a different Grav Bike. You can easily buy a key in the AH or get Zen from the Questionite exchange.

As of me posting this the AH prices for the kinda lower end vehicles mostly the Hover Tank Ridgeback, Hawkwing Razor Assault Ship, and the Grav Bike Raptor and Copperhead are around 800-1200 G so there's that. From what I've seen the vehicles are kinda...well...weak so they're mostly just good for the "neato" factor so as long as the color scheme of one of the lower end ones works for you and your toon your not missing that much by getting a low end one.

Thanks for the info. I've got some CP saved up from not playing a while. I might buy a pack of keys and see what comes out.

Based on my (fairly limited) vehicle experiences I would recommend:

If you just want to travel fast, get a jet with a high "speed" rating and equip it with rank 3+ lightweight materials and any rank flight computer mods.

If you just want to look cool/thematic then get whatever works. But note that many of the really cool looking ones are Z or drifter salvage store only, so are rarely seen in the auction house.

If you actually want to play with the system, I would recommend using the 8 slot vehicles and rank 6 mods (to get all bonuses from each mod). This gives four "weapon systems" (which also includes other stuff like decoys, shields and heals) which is twice as many as the 4-5 slot vehicle, which usually only gives two.

The reason I'd recommend that is because, even with eight slots, vehicles don't have that many "powers" in the end. Four weapon systems, one inherent power, speed boost and reload is only seven powers. Which all characters have by level 17.

Between the two of us that's a rate of 2 out of 14 lockboxes with a bike in them.

Pretty much what I did since I have most of the Z store stuff I want for right now.

if you got 2 out of 2 vehicles you were beyond lucky.

I havent opened any of the new ones (nor do i intend to) but from tests of tako and hover tank on the PTS (1,000 tako, 600 hover tank) I can tell you the odds of the good stuff is no where near as good.

The hover tanks are about 2% chance of one of the lesser vehicles and 1% of the 8 slot vehicle (1 in 33 ish for a vehicle of any kind and 1 in 100 for the good one).

I see no reason to believe the bikes (with 2 lesser and 1 8 slot bike, same as the tanks) would be any different.

Just keep in mind that using keys to open vehicle boxes sends a message to Cryptic to put more resources into vehicles.

For me, vehicles don't fit the spirit of the game (customization, super heroes) well enough, and I'm sad to see the devs putting so much of their extremely limited resources into vehicles and vehicle-based content.

While I get that vehicles dont fit everyone's theme they do fit a good chunk of people's themes. I admit I have one of each vehicle type and I got toons who fit with all of them and I would like to see more content to use them with as well, but id also like some old fashioned non-vehicle centric stuff too. Either way im glad to see more tech stuff and less fantasy junk
