So you're probably sick of all these threads about people getting silenced for "no reason"....well im one more to add to the endless list of victims. I was doing some andrith runs with friends and then some guy wanted in on the team. We had it set to elite and from the start of it he was shouting (all caps mode) "put in on normal" we didnt want to because the plan was to do it on elite. So after we finished the run i decided to kick him from the team as all he was doing was demanding us to do things we didnt want to....even after we asked him to calm down. Then he sends me a pm asking me why...then another calling me a noob, after that *bam!* im hit with the yellow text saying im a spammer and that i cant chat for 24 hours....

This is like the 6th time this has happened to me and i full on know i never spam as i hardly use any other channel in the game apart from the SG chat.

Please, Just please do something about this silly feature that is NOT working as intended and get rid of it!

Thanks for reading :)

Working as intended. You should have known better than to interact with other players in an MMO!

Your avatar looks really mad. Was he also chat banned? His face kind of makes it look like he earned it though...

If you got chat banned you must have done something otherwise people wouldn't have put you on ignore. Its not like the determination of what is or isn't worthy of a chat ban is completely subjective or arbitrary and done through an automated process no in-game moderator can even revoke. And its not like anyone forced you to team with this player, or as if people would use the ignore feature over and over again to chat ban someone for petty reasons.

Maybe if you just opted never to team or even use chat like most sensible people do when playing MMOs this wouldn't have happened to you. But you had to go picking random strays that didn't want to subject themselves to the playstyle your team had agreed uppon before they were even in the picture, then later cut them loose, and now your paying the price and whining on the forums about it.

So enjoy your chat ban because clearly you "had it coming". Maybe you'll think twice next time before you chat or go teaming with other players in a MMO.

As I've said before, make it so that only one ignore from a handle counts in a half hour period toward the chat ban. It won't solve the "Wolverine" problem, but at least make the person have to work at getting you chat-banned.

I think they should go further. Maximum one ignore from a specific account to another specific account a day. Any further ignores actually cause the player making them to receive an ignore, thus spamming them would result in their own chat ban.

The whole thing about putting anyone on ignore reports a player. If you unignore that person than its your fault that you subjected yourself to it. You shouldn't be allowed to report a player a second time if you took the step to unignore.

No, not at all. It takes several people placing you on ignore (not sure the number) before you are chat-banned.

Also, ignores stack over time, there is no expiration date on mutes, so you could get ignored by one person every week or so then one day get chat banned. (IIRC)

Thank you. Obviously for you to be ignored multiple times by the same person he/she has to first to unignore you. Then a solution could be that when someone unignore you he/she completely annul any and all effects of his previous ignore (it would be like he/she had never ignored you) and so it will not longer counts to get you chat banned.
That way a lone guy should no longer be able to get you chat banned

This doesn't actually work btw, the same person ignoring you over and over can't ban you, because every time they unignore you the previous ignore no longer counts towards the chat ban.

Right so lemme get this straight.. a random guy wanted in on the team.. gets mad his random team leader (Jim) not doing what he asked...then tells other guys(His supposed friends) that you're the bad guy so you get muted?

    Interesting logic some people have.

First.. when you join a random team with nobody you know.. dont expect them to do as you want them to. Second of all talking in CAPS.. doesn't help anything... thirdly and lastly HE was in the wrong to join your team and demand something.. to people he doesnt really know.

And just getting you muted.. was wrong. I petty the logic of people sometimes...

Ah well, its nearly over now anyway...just sick of this happening to me time and time again when i do no wrong. The silence is because of spamming...i did no such spamming so therefore i dont see why i was silenced....unless im now logging on in my sleep and spamming mindless stuff into zone chat.

The Silencers strike again it seems. Main reason I lost interest with Co yet again, the social aspect of this game is so far down on the scale compared to the warm and welcome RP coomunity of virtue on CoH I enjoyed for years that nothing this game offers in the way of enjoyable gameplay makes up for the sheer need to avoid others to avoid having your own game play ruined here.

Be warned I know first hand that an SG exist whose name and purpose is to spread the silence. Once they where formed and lead for the goal to force action by the devs to end this silly abuse. but time has lead to a change in leadership and active direction in their goals. Now they exist simply to spread the silence as far and fast as they can, to one day do the impossible and silence the world.

Something just doesn't seem right. I highly doubt a single player can cause a chat ban on another player without help from several other players. I know this because I've tried to solo chatban someone on purpose for what I viewed as spam by constantly clicking report spam and unignoring them, even after over 50 tries at doing this the jerk was still sending spam in zone. Is there some kind of trick to this?

    2. They don't have the capabilities to enforce the system from being abused.

    3. They simply don't care.

    Ignorance is bliss!

People that haven't taken the time to properly inform themselves about a subject should refrain from having an opinion about it. Its the logical thing to do.

But yeah, wait till they finally get hit with a chat ban and find themselves unable to chat on ANY Cryptic game. Then they'll know what this wonderful, automated system-wide system is all about.

I went over to the NWO forums but couldn't find. Though, I did find some new info I didn't know about yet about what they planned to do with the game rule-wise (inflated HP/Damage numbers, changes to the rules, etc.) that made me go *bleh*

Worse. From what I understand they're using an extensively Cryptic-ied version of 4th ed that's merely "inspired" by D&D 4th ed but intended to run more like a typical MMO. Its (apparently) basically your typical MMO with inflated stats and 60 levels, but with a D&D lable on it.

If you want something that vaguely passes for a genuine D&D experience, this is not the MMO you're looking for.
