From another thread, I just started poking around more and voila!

http://www.crypticstudios.com/node/40

I'm not saying I can do it, I'm not a game content developer at all, or even close to it. But I've seen many complain about it, saying they can do a better job. Well then, why not try it then? Doesn't hurt to apply!

I qualify for all but 4 of those "things we'd like to see".

My only deal with the game industry now adays, is the amount of ribbon and special tape you have to cut through now adays to be accepted as a designer. So I end up doing what a majority of talent does and works independently. I went from CGDC to IGDC Independent game developers confrence over the course of 5 years. Back when being a game developer didn't even require a BA. I've just never been a huge fan of the new bureaucracy that goes on with most studios now adays.

    Every day you could be:
Contributing to the design of the story and events to realize the vision of the creative director and lead designer on the project.
Creating specific world events for each zone.
Implementing text and assets to create fun and interesting missions.
Balancing and tuning game play in each mission or area.
Providing an example of professionalism and excellence to the rest of the team.

The last line seems especially important, and especially ignored by CO Team.

I thought it was going to be about a Radiant player complaining in Alerts about people saying they could heal better on their Inferno than the Radiant player was managing to. *shrugs*

Now we need a thread quoting all these people that have claimed that they can do the dev's job so we know who they actually are (cuz I haven't seen them yet...).

You haven't? In all seriousness, there've been many posting stuff like "it's not that hard to do X", "fixing that is easy", "I know that's a quick fix", "I could right a better story than that" and my personal favorite "I could make more interesting content than them if we just had a foundry"

Oh, right... I forgot about all the "fixing this or changing that is quick/easy" claims  but I always took those more as misconceptions about how difficult it is to do certain stuff than outright claiming that they know how to do it*.

I'm not sure I've seen anyone claim outright that they could write a better story or make more interesting content, though, it wouldn't surprise me if some actually could write a better story at least (making better content using only limited content generation tools might be a stretch, though). But that by itself doesn't qualify one to be a content developer, since there are more skillsets involved in doing that job than just writting alone. And doesn't mean that we can't recognize that the story in this game can suck, though.

*which they would have to know to be able to make such claims, but the poster doesn't seem to realize it and claim its easy/quick even though they have no basis to make those claims.

No basis you say? They counter that they have DM'd an entire session of game play with their friends once a few years ago.

I have seen the claims in threads. I usually chalk it up to monday morning quaterbacking. It is easy to tell someone else how to do something and quite another thing to actually do it better.

    That's the thing.
A: If I were to join Cryptic I'd kind of first want to start out as an intern, mainly to get a very firm grasp on how to use the engine's creator/code. This seems to be signing straight up to be an experienced dev.

B: They're most likely going to place newcomers on the dev teams for STO or NWN. I mean, remember this?

Mmhmm. I remember Crush telling me that people had been picked up from Paragon, and none had gone to Champs... but "they still had positions open for Champions."

    So much for that.

After looking at the staff list of openings, I gotta say....holy jesus thats like....a whole new core team to be looking for.

    Senior Character Artist
    Senior Environment Artist
    Staff UI Artist
    Game Designer - Combat
    Game Designer - Content
    Game Designer - Systems
    Programmer
    Senior Programmer
    Infrastructure Programmer

Thats like....core core developement. Only thing its missing is a sound guy.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure their development teams work all under 1 roof. Sorta like valves stations, where you got 1 main head office, and like 3 core teams, and a multitude of sub teams working on the 3 titles.

    So 1 building.
So....the only disability I see to spreading team members over into neverwinter is you can't look over your cubicle to hand them a soda? Maybe?
It doesn't seem to me like their hurting for talent. Manpower, sure, talent....hard to see that since everyone seems to be under 1 roof.

Smoochan, everytime you post, I alwayss hear some anime little girl...but with sinister intentions..don't ask.

Anyway yeah it does sound like a core development roster. But would this whole thing be out dated? I mean on the website, it still lists CoX. So who knows how often this thing gets updated.

It probably is, and I would bet its leftover from a recruitment cycle to work on Neverwinter in house. But on the same token I would probably bet they have a larger application draw from local colleges in the area that specialize in game design etc from in state applicants. The website application process would most likely draw in people from out of state or people that don't have the local connection with a college to get set up with an internship post grad.
I imagine it would still be up to the Human resources dep to update the site, if not one of the Directors or higher ups.

Also, they still own the rights to CoX, whatever happend with them an NCsoft can take a flying leap, they can still host it somewhere else with a different publisher, or even host it themselves.
