You?ll be able to get this boost from 6 PM Pacific on Friday (Nov. 30) through 10 AM on Monday (Dec. 3). Witchcraft is right outside the Powerhouse in Renaissance Center.

You just need to log on long enough to get the buff. You can use it later. It only counts down when logged on.

This is fantastic, especially the timing with CoH shutting down. Very much appreciated, thank you!

Hopefully you'll be willing to run Demonflame or Therakiel's Temple with a team of mine TrailTurtle :-D

I will be on Saturday most of the day, @agentx5 in-game. IC runs are the best! (In-Character, a mix of roleplaying and PvE Elite)

good for people making yet another alt, bad for new players who will race along skipping the actual game, get to 40 in no time flat and get bored...

I recently did a new character and levelled to 40 just on missions, no alerts, no xp boosts...

Had a great time, did over 400 missions, saw all of monster island, and most of city, desert, canada and half of lemuria, had to skip most of the non main mission lines (except in monster island where i did everything) to keep at lvl appropriate content. Since finished all lemuria and working on finishing other zones (for completeness), done the great vibora apocalypse chain, saving actual vibora for a bit, along with the aps and comic series, as its the last of the actual content i have left (

Will of course still play in the zones, especially Lemuria ! and repeat the great instances (that are open - open them all not mission lock - esp eclipses lair in canada and the pirate ghost treasure cave in lemuria!) and lairs, plus aps and comic series. I may even do some alerts to get some questionite, but not certain of that...

Back to the point, how long did it take to get to 40 with no boosts and no alerts? Something like 80 hours (maybe 50 of just levelling but i took my time). 80 hours of very fun game play. Double xp and funnel them into alerts new players will get maybe 10-15 hours of quick repetitive grind and miss out on all that - lots of great story arcs (something like 100 signature villains fought at appropriate levels) and some great lairs and instances!

For new players THAT is where you should be directing them, not fast xp grinding alerts!

Um, double XP doesn't need to be used for Alerts you know. Big assumption there. You assumed that the new players will line up for Alerts with the Double XP. Last time Witchcraft was giving out Double XP, I used it with Missions.

No, but all new players are shoved head long to the alerts, no wonder most will go there instead of the poorly pushed normal game play.

But my point still stands, with no xp bonus i had to skip content because of levelling too fast, and even then hit 40 with all vibora and over half of lemuria to go. Earning double xp you outpace and miss most of it, or do it when its too far below you and trivial and boring, thats even if you dont jump into the heavily pushed alerts at all.

Ive said it before and ill say it again, levelling was already way too fast here before alerts with no xp bonus, its easy to get to 40 with just old content in 50 hours, 20 with alerts, 10 with double xp as well!

My first game, everquest would take thousands of hours to get to max level and alternate advancement, I didnt manage it in the 6 or so years i played with just my 1 character! They also had the content to support it since they actually regularly added it, but thats a whole other issue.

Yeah just grinding smash alerts you can get to 40 in around 20 hours time with no xp boost at all (other than smash one of course) With double xp and heirloom if you have it 10 hours is all it takes to get a new character to 40.

But why in the name of sanity would you want to grind Smash Alerts for ten to twenty hours??

My point exactly (see my first post in this thread) I started my new main chr (something like 14th character overall, of which 6 got to 40) 2 weeks ago and leveled with no alerts or boosts purely on missions, and took my time at that. Had a good 80 hours of fun instead of 10-20 hours of bordem.

Plus i still have all vibora to do along with everything a powerlevelled chr can do at 40 as well (aps, comic series, unity, lairs etc)
For a Leveling Contest that you won't be eligible to win due to mismanagement.

The reason 2 of my 40s exist and 40 hours of wasted bordem grinding smash alerts...

To be honest, after getting my 8th character rolling, i got sick and tired of the same set of missions at the start.. over and over again. Wack 15 of those, help 3 shops, go sewer, wack boss, find purple cloths, go slap some dude, find 5 things.

At least Alert is somewhat random, we got 3 tanks, 1 support and 1 healer against Mindslayer, we didnt get her down in time :D Next run some freaking DPS got in and he pretty much solo'ed that Wint3r guy.

    1. You might find Smashes fun.
    2. You might have a team/SG to play with, this makes even grindy tasks fun if you're talking/chatting.
    3. You want/need another character slot (if you're gold).
    4. You have a concept that needs all 14 powers to flesh out and want it done fast.
    5. You think the real fun is in playing a character and not building it so you do the "building" part as fast as possible.
    6. You're multi-tasking during the downtime between alert pops so you can play and do whatever else.

Yep having a team/SG does make Smash alerts fun. Did so with Friends in Vent and we spent the time trying to beat our previous times, was good fun and the levels flew by.

... any chance of another one any time soon? I spent the weekend installing the darn game. (Including over 15 hours of waiting for patches)

Meh. I guess I shouldn't rush my first time through, but my characters feel so puny compared to the Incarnate-level powerhouses I was playing a couple of days ago.

I've been wondering whether it's a scheduled thing or if the system responds dynamically to the demand placed on it. If there are 40+ people constantly queuing for the alert, does it keep it running until some maximum time X elapses or are all alerts kept for fixed lengths of time?

In other words, was the Mind Slayer alert active because it popped and people swarmed it due to how easy it is, or was it scheduled because it's easy and the demand just confirmed how popular she is as a punching bag?

Besides, they had Nemesis smashes running for Friday night and most of Saturday; while possibly not the most effective way to farm q, I spent way more time beating on "Lilith" than I did on Mind Slayer.

Yea, it seems alerts respond to demand. If there are a ton of folks in the queue. The alert sticks around. If it is empty or unpopular it times out and gets replaced with another.

So, popular alerts can be kept open for hours. Ive seen black fang missions, before the q box nerf, run for what seemed like an entire weekend.

Nemesis Heirloom gear from the Nemesis store bought with...DUN, Dun, dun...Nemesis Tokens. It's leveling scaling gear which gives a +3% XP bonus for each Primary gear you have slotted. It's account bound. So you can pass them onto new alts as a character hit's level 40 (via the Account Bank).

Got two new level 40's and two new level 30's out of this event, so very good. They were all around level 12 when I started. Used all 5 XP bonuses stacked up like cards.

Sidenote: I really REALLY wish you couldn't get into a Nemesis alert until you actually HAVE a nemesis, like it locks you out of queuing automatically if you don't (doesn't even show it).

Deffinately dev set when one is on for ages, not responding to demand.

I had no idea you could 'undo' your entire freeform character (for a price), so i recreated a new character about 10 times after i got around 15-17 and found out the set wasnt really my thing.

But some alerts, i had no idea how on earth you could take down that guy in 2 minutes, like the guy that basicly dodge everything (so you hardly do damage), or the lady that does soul leech (or something) and nonstop healing her back to fullhealth.

I have a hard time believing that some dev is manually spawning certain alerts. For either good or bad. And on a weekend no less.

Honestly, I feel if they have that power. Then one has to question things. like why black fang didnt quietly vanish a week or two before his nerf. Or why the baron still spawns even though its clear alert q box drops are unintended.

The baron drops Q? I'm going to have to try to queue for one of his Alerts before they fix that one...

Yeah, the Double XP thing was great. Even with the extremely limited playtime I had available this weekend, I created Disarm (taking advantage of the glitch where your arms disappear with certain chest pieces under the Jackets setting, assuming you set the underlayer to Skin), and got him up to 20 (or did I ding 21 last night? Can't recall just now).

I didnt say they sit there manually spawning alerts, just that alerts dont stay qued up longer based on popularity as claimed.

When its a nemesis dockside or blackfang dockside or the mindslayer one this last time, they set a trigger or whatever so that alert stays for a long time (usually with some event like the bonus q or bonus xp events).

If it was as someone said, that they stay longer due to demand, as i pointed out a radiation rumble on a burst daily day with just as large a que would stay hours as well, not disappear in 15 minutes or less.

I am not sure how true this is, but I think Alert availability works like this:
Grab/Burst: Maximum number of times this Alert can be completed before it gets rotated out
Smash: Maximum number of times this Alert can be failed before it gets rotated out

Thus if a Smash is getting farmed hardcore it's likely to stick around for a long time.
