Are Vehicles All That Great?

This is the question on my mind. I have perfectly good characters that can fly, run, jump swing, roll and teleport. They can do all the above while laying waste to villains.

So, what does a hero need with a starship...er...tank or jets?

These things are high priced as far as zen goes. They will be yet another grind to mod up. They take up a device slot that changes availability of devices that can actually save your heroes bacon.

When we asked for vehicles we all knew there would be limits on what could be effectively implemented due to the game engine. Vehicles may be cool for RP. But this is not what I thought the community was seeking.

Well, a few superheroes do have vehicles and stuff, but as for the pricing of them and what you get for that, I don't think they're all that great. Please do not get me the wrong way here, but I AM NOT saying they should be buffed. Also, we have more toons that wouldn't have a jet here than we do ones that would. The thing here that gets me is that I think the whole launch of vehicles was a money grab, I know they're a company and want to make a profit, but they knew and promised a bunch of things, such as customization, which we didn't get in them. I do agree on you with the statement of this isn't what the community was seeking, while they are good for getting to point A to point B, this isn't Vehicles Online, where you can be some random vehicle, this is Champions Online, where you can be the hero you want to be.

Fortunately/unfortunately, vehicles do kind of suck. Lack of appearance customization, extremely poor effectiveness in combat, poor balance between the modular weapons (the medic drone and biosteel ray are the best and turns a mediocre vehicle into a great healer, accept no substitutes, do not bother actually attacking with a vehicle since it will just result in disappointment)

I think, at the price they're selling them out, they really ought to have more oomph to them and be fully color customizable. Either make vehicles an effective, viable thing or lower the price to LOWER THAN a travel power, considering that:

    - You have to buy/grind vehicle mods to buff and equip your vehicle.
    - You only have two (four if you play the lockbox gamble for an Avalanche hovertank) powers, not counting the tank/jet's basic fire, reload and boost.
    - MOTHERF***ING TARGETING ARCS, UGH

While a true travel power allows you to be yourself, 98% of them allow you to fight while using them using your own powers, etc. etc.

In short, Vehicles Online? PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT. Are you KIDDING ME?! The vehicles, as they are now, are pathetically weak, made of nothing but cardboard and jet engines with pointless confetti launchers. And you can't even paint the freaking things.

btw, my Soldier's Assault Rifle and my Marksman's... well, EVERYTHING BOW RELATED? Tears through tanks and jets in seconds.

Claws don't cut it, thats why Wolverine only fights with a tank or Jet theses days.

Batman also NEVER ... EVER fights with anything else than his Batmobile .. really never .. believe me.
The Fantastic Four ... all they do is shooting Lasers and Rocktes from their Fantastic-Car,
and even the Hulk dont smashes Tanks and Helicopters anymore, now he drives / flys them
because they are so much better than his bare fists.

True story .. you can read it here on the forums

Ah .. i forgot to say also that the costume designer sucks hard, thats
why we got the "streamlined" version already, and with beeing a Jet
or tank you can totally avoid that useless tools :D

Your one-note posts are getting a bit tiresome lately, Beldin.

Or are you under the impression that when one has a tank or jet, one must use it at all times? You know, like the way that Batman has never, ever gotten out of the (heavily armed) Batplane, or how once the X-Men board the Blackbird, they have to live there?

Dork Knight wound up with a Hawkwing somebody didn't want. His use for it? A quick way to cross Monster Island or Canada. Then he gets to his destination, deplanes, and proceeds to use his Night Avenger abilities against his foes.

Most of my characters have no use for vehicles. Therefore they will never get any. Meanwhile, if someone else wants to use one, that's no skin off my nose at all. See how easy that is?

Only two of my 8 level 40 characters, out of over a dozen total characters of mine, make ANY sense to be needing vehicles. If anything, my main, Alyssa Q'Uzixola, she can teleport with the aid of magic. I'd spend quite a bit of Zen for a permanent teleport-to-teammate device.

If I wanted to do this lore-accurate, Admiral Sabra Raja has an entire space fleet at her command, and Captain David Javan is in command of a huge mothership. Most of the heavy combat they would do is done from a command station, not flying around in a fighter. And personal combat? Sabra is a deadly sniper and is packing dualies (dual pistols). David has some kickass power armor, with rocket boots.

The other characters? Many of them come from technology that's more in the range of the 1700's to 1900's on our Earth based human history. It makes NO bloody sense for any of them to use vehicles. And frankly? Villians like Kali Q'Uzixola wouldn't need to. She can take control of her victim's mind & body and have them slit their own throat, she sure as heck can take over an pilot of a ship. Shoot at her with a missile and she'll be liable to just teleport into your cockpit and kill you while you sit the stunned & suprised.

By making vehicles able to do things in combat that no normal player can do, even if Freeform -- powers that CANNOT be aquired from the powerhouse -- that IS messed up, and yes, Tancrediiv, NOT what we were initially asking for and excited about in the PTS not so long ago.

It's looking more & more like cash grab, is most certainly a setup for pay-to-win down the road (all you need is for more people to be brainwashed like Keiko here into thinking their vehicles aren't powerful enough with their weaponry, yet).

    Where is the promised content?

All i was saying at first was that i think the whole vehicle thing is not worth the development
time spent, and that most people only wanted Vehicles as travelpower and not as glorified
    Become Devices.

But then so much people jumped on me and told me all times how great that all is since
nearly every Hero these days uses vehicles and not just for traveling but to fight with them.

Even Wonderwoman or the Fantastic Four or X-Men .. yes they wrote it here, while i only
know these Heroes to used them for traveling, but i haven't read comics the last years and
only seen animated Comics that seem to be much more 70-80s like i think.

Now recently the tides seem to have turned and suddenly a lot of people here have the same
opinion than what i had when i was fighting alone against the windmills, and all thats left
is my sarcasm to tell you : why dont you have listened early ..

But hey .. great for everyone who prefers his to be a piece of metal instead wearing tights
    and getting some real content.

Also .. there is really nothing interesting going on in the forums i have the feeling since
this crap started .. nearly now build requests or other things that i had fun to do here.

In the name of profit, at the direction this game has been heading this fall? Yeah, it's only a matter of time. Then you can listen to me going "I told ya so".

Kind of like I did with Smash Alerts causing all sorts of community problems, I told ya so.

Or Hero Games having the Champions Gear being the best in the game causing a nasty clash between hardcore PvP and farming PvE that would ultimate result in one side being neglected by the developers, I told ya so.

Maybe I have a point sometimes? Especially when I'm not the only one going "Whoa! What are you doing devs? STAHP!"

PS: Also for the record, while reviewing your post history I must commend that the vast majority of the time you make good points, you aren't afraid to standby your thoughts & opinions or even admit making an error, and I even agree with about half of what you say. So we see eye-to-eye on a lot, but in this case I don't think your RP background that you share does you credit in the discussion of gameplay mechanics. For example, in realism, a headshot from a highpowered sniper shot would end the life of most bosses in the game. For gameplay mechanics balance reasons, for the sake of fun, we try not to have things as such. Maybe that's a weak specific example, but as I've been lectured twice in other gaming communities for ME being the one too strongly on lore: gameplay mechanics > lore. Does that mean I put lore as a low priority? CERTAINLY NOT! Heck, my favorite thing in this game is theme building, and its detailed customization controls. I also find the PnP lore this game was based on to be interesting, even though I had never heard of it prior to this game. I LOVE a compelling plot.

Tank Girl had a track laying tank as I recollect not a hover tank. (It was in the movie so it must be true) Mind you her sidekick had a heavily armed jet...
I dunno bout the final products but on the PTS you could engage at 150 feet and this was way beyond the open world baddies range to retaliate. So if this is still so (and I doubt it) you can do open world missions in complete (and excrutiatingly boring) safety. Well some of them can be a bit hard to solo like.... Well do I have to think of everything?

Sobs me want an Electra Car and a Motorcycle and a Flying Horse.

If you want to drive around, vehicles do their job.
Since most of the missions are inside maps, the missions are not for vehicles.
And the mods, as nice as they are, too many different kinds and made way too complicated considering the straight forwardness the vehicle desing is.
And let's not talk about the vehicle customising.
So, i hope this 'New And Shiney Thing' passes fast and we move to another stuff. Like Nemesis System Overhaul for example.

Really? I am curious as to how you come to this statement. Do you have a vehicle with rank 6 to 9 mods? Would you care to post logs of your damage numbers? I have been testing out various vehicle weapons and mods and the results are far from impressive. So far the best I've seen is Plasma Beam which can (eventually, after you stack up debuffs) just about crack 1000 DPS. With Rank 6 mods across the board you might just almost get to 2000 DPS. Maybe. I wouldn't guarantee it. My Radiant AT hits harder than that. The vehicle weapons are pathetic. They have about the same base damage as character powers, but don't get the kind of buffs from role bonuses, passives, forms etc which provide characters with most of their damage. If you do have some secret formula that lets you squeeze 300% bonuses out of a few mods, please share with the class, the rest of us haven't figured it out yet.

And any given decked-out hero in R5's and decent blue or SCR gear could roflstomp any given vehicle, even with R6's and R9's.

Hence why they either make the vehicles worth the money, or decrease the price. Better yet, just abandon the vehicle system altogether and make something more worthwhile. ._.

Misterjust, I have some VERY wealthy friends in this game (one of which I've nicknamed him "Lord of Grabbags" as he probably spends easily $100 a week on them, back to whn they first came out too). Many of the Brazilian and French players are very nice once you get to know them and can speak a little in their language as a sign of mutual respect. It's beneficial to not stereotype groups of people. Also I've said this before: in live communication such as voice, in-person, or in-game I'm much friendlier than I come off on the forums. I try to leave my frustrations with the game at the forums before I go in.

But anyways some of these foreign friends had their vehicles decked out and wanted me to help do some comparison testing. Primarily we raced around in our vehicles, occasionally we shoot at each other just to see, in the name of science.

Jasinblaze and I for example did some speed testing with the Hawkwings (new v. old). A highly ranked up flight computer mod on either will make them almost identically fast (and when the afterburner is going they're pretty darned quick, outpaces a R3 jetboots in a second with ease)

As far as guns go, there's ways to really ramp down the cooldown  Or even use the rather cheap Allied Targeting mods to makes yourself a nigh-unkillable super-healer. Make that Inequity a thing of the past!

Oh? Prove it. ^_^ "It depends."

More importantly you're STILL missing the point: it's a setup for it heading to the extreme side of heavily pay-to-win, in the future. I've seen it happen before, recently, and especially in European and Asian run MMOs.
    keikomyst wrote:

Cryptic does that a lot in this game.

From the posts so far (thanks to each of you who have posted) I would say most of us see vehicles for what they are.

I haven't played in a good while. I am still refusing to spend any time in game until some things are fixed. I miss CO so I did stop by for an hour of Bloodmoon where I had a big stipend cache so I bought a Hawkwing for Marshal. Cowboy needs to get around. Wanted a Harley or a horse. Got neither.

Yes, most of the iconic superheroes had a vehicle. But much of the time they were a conveyance to get around or heavy fire power when things were going to get beyond freaky dangerous. And most of the time they were shot down, shot up or rendered useless necessitating the Mano y Mano fisticuffs to commence.

Short answer: get one for RP or if you are true to your concept and don't have some kind of flight. Otherwise, just bring the hero to the gun fight.

Really? Not really sure why you seem to think cooldown is important, most guns dont have a cooldown. As far as healing, I would like details of your build. I tried making a healer, Biosteel Regeneration Ray has a base heal of about 180 per half second, slot a few +Healing mods, it hits 250ish maybe. 500 per second. Hardly super, my Radiant, at rest gets about 1300/sec out of Arcane Vitality, thats without Compassion stacks and without considering crits. And Regeneration Ray can't self target, so how does it make me nigh-unkillable?

You talk like you know a lot about the subject, but your posts are high on drama, low on detail. If you actually know how to get good performance out of these weapons you could help a lot more by letting us in on the secret than by being dismissive and high handed.

Keiko you know what I'd love? More nemesis content, and more customizable too. Mysticism-using nemesis's do different things than science or arms one, and personality affects more than dialog. And maybe even a Dragon Age Origins kind of thing where you can give the AI a dozen or two conditionals to work with (i.e.: "lifedrain" if HP < 25% with 5 second delay on repeating the cycle, "block" on enemy at 50% charged up, etc.)

Other projects like revamping telepathy & ice, nature powerset, improving Heads & Hats, more UNITY missions, new adventure packs, etc. Things that were good ideas but for some reason were dropped.

I'm not saying people shouldn't have their vehicles which run on awesomesauce, but...

Well it's like in Independance Day (film) where they scientist/satellite guy figures out the alien ships are just moving into position to start the attack while you're that chick with the others under the main gun of the ship waving a sign saying "Take Me With You Elvis!"

    And I'm over here going...

    ._.

    Are they friendly aliens?

I am legit concerned. And after taking a closer look at Perfect World's portfolio and Shareholder's reports it only makes me more anxious.

Holy crap you check people's post history... On another tangent, how are the Grav Bikes? I really want one for my main because those are the only vihecles that let you see your toon. He will look very funny hehe. Can I get awesome speed out of them?

    1. Yes, I fairly often review people's post history from the past month before I make a counter argument. Is that creepy to you? I view it as strategical.

    2. Pretty darned fast. My R7 Flight Computer mod on Sabra's old/prototype Hawking Command Jet is slowly outpaced. It's not superfast but it's a blast to do arch-checkpoint races in Lemuria & the Desert zones. Want me to share some of the 3D race courses with you all? Maybe we can get some Star Wars style podracing competitions going? Would be a lot of fun now that I think about it... hmm...

Right now vehicles seems to be a rather failed initiative.
Not so many players are using one and it isn't really surprising.
Probably we'll see only hoverbikes (IF we are lucky) and then this project will be abandoned and mothballed like hideouts or nemesis system.

Vehicles are weaker than AT's -as they should be.
But also are weaker than regular becomes.
Of course player can upgrade his vehicle with better mods - but frankly, why he/she should care? There is no practical use for vehicle, anyway.

But I hardly care about vehicles level of power, though in their present form vehicles are ridiculously overpriced.

A saving grace for vehicles would be their visual customisation, even such simple thing like colorable textures, but they are denied even such basic feature.

Pretty much what i wanted and have said since they announced the whole vehicle thing.

And .. heck i would also say people should NOT get their vehicles until we get some real
    new content.

And i may be wrong but i think even John Sills wanted Vehicles mainly just as Travel Power
    and not as fighting machines.

    And about the Grav-Bike
    1. Beside that this is not TOR .. this may be the Carrot on the Stick that will never reach
the game when Vehicles are finally canceled .. the same as the extra Rooms for Hideouts
    or the second Rampage Alert.

Also consider the Grav-Bike is what a lot of people always expected when they wanted
vehicles .. and where they always told us it is not possible .. and why they then started
    the whole "BECOME VEHICLE" mess.

Probably we'll see only hoverbikes (IF we are lucky) and then this project will be abandoned and mothballed like hideouts or nemesis system.

Which is sad, because it's a good idea at the core and they're putting a lot of time & resources into it.
Vehicles are weaker than AT's -as they should be.
Yes... I sort of agree with this.
But also are weaker than regular becomes.
Meh... They're stronger than other Becomes IF you upgrade them, aka. "the grind".

The bigger issue (to me) is that Cryptic is making Become Devices that do things that no player can do, such as 1-click AoE insta-rez. Hell you have to spend a power point, 2 advantage points, and risk a charge time each time just to do that with Redemption.

How is that balanced again? Oh right, it's not. It's overly pay-to-win.

And you wonder why I'm concerned with the direction this is taking? The vehicles are weak, for now, but history likes to repeat.

But I hardly care about vehicles level of power, though in their present form vehicles are ridiculously overpriced.

Got to be specific... People will read that as, "buff them to make it worth the high price" rather than "these are luxury items not all can afford"

A saving grace for vehicles would be their visual customisation, even such simple thing like colorable textures, but they are denied even such basic feature.

You should DEFINITELY be able to color & customize your luxury vehicle (or pimpmobile or whatever). Luxury equipment OFTEN comes customizable, in the real world especially.

Heck you could even turn that into a community contest! Create-a-vehicle (with a model editor program), the developers choose the best ones & import them into the game.

That would be funny! But I don't think the devs would select it.

There's a lot of potential cost savings for the developers and new content creation power in user-creation contest stuff. There also precedence for that in this game: the Create-a-Villian contest (although Ao'Qephoth?.

Wow.... Really? You're going to go there?

Actually I did partly answer you if you bothered reading. Clearly you didn't read for comprehension if you're coming at me with personal attacks like that.

Other than that you need to chill the f*** out. I can't give you instant gratification results, and why should I bust my **** to hurry with collecting data so you can troll the f*** out of me, with personal attacks? Piss off then! If you really want instant numbers, do the tests yourself. Not everybody's schedule revolves around you, *******. Has it even occured to you it was Thanksgiving break? Do you have no family?

Basic playing around tests were done between friends, formal data collection and reporting will require me to go and arrange schedules and ask favors of the friends who have the highly ranked up vehicles to volunteer time from their schedule to help out.

It's the same reason I don't complain about Smackwell or O'Farmer being here to stop all flamewars and trolling, they volunteer their time and are not paid to do so.

I think the George Foreman grill is already in the loot table, it is just set to spawn only after ALL accolades are completed and then the odds are 1:999,999,999,999,999.7. It is limited to the lime green color option, is a recall version because it has a chance to start a house fire, but is working as intended.

Actually the only worth while vehicle is the hover disc device from the carrier defence mission, thats because its the ONLY vehicle implemented in the way people actually ASKED for!

    A travel power device!

Before someone says 'but you have that already as a travel power' The travel power device version is a lot better

    1) lets you take more than 2 travel powers to fit concept if required.
    2) Has no energy penalties
    3) uses no advantage points and comes out the box faster than r3 hover disc travel power
    4) doesnt slow down in combat
    5) Is the only vehicle you ride AND are still yourself using your own powers (a vehicle of the type actually requested!)

Nah, it's more like ... the aliens are coming in with cardboard ships and I'm just sitting there underwhelmed as I shoot one out of the sky with a BB gun of all things, and waving a sign that says "YOU FAILED. TRY AGAIN."

One part of me just wants them to bin the whole vehicle project, and the other part wants them to go back and make it WORTHWHILE so they can make some good, well-earned money on a well-designed vehicle system. I would really prefer it if they worked more on Nemesis stuff and went back to fixing up powersets and making new stuff to do, but they're hung up on this broken down sham of a vehicle system.

Protip to game devs out there: If making an expensive paid item GOOD via the mod system is harder work than getting gear and mods to make a character GREAT, then you have failed.

I can't believe people are buying keys to open the lockboxes in hopes that they get a vehicle. I can't believe people are outright buying the vehicles off of the Z-Store because the vehicles are garbage.

Performance-wise, vehicles are nothing special. Not that I can tell. They aren't worth the money.

I also love the statements I keep reading over and over and over and over again:

Why would Superman ever need a tank? Superheroes don't use hovertanks. This is stupid. I think it's funny how some of the same people who shrieked about people making clone characters and being unoriginal are... saying that because one superhero doesn't use it, then it isn't a superhero thing.

But none of mine... This also warrants a metaphorical slap in the mouth. So YOU don't. Big fuggin' deal. Only a couple of mine do. This self-entitled garbage needs to stop. I have no characters that use paranormal powers. I have no use for a TON of things in this game. Simply because YOUR concept doesn't need a vehicle doesn't mean that it's a waste of time. People who say things like this give me the impression that they are socially retarded and think the world revolves around their wants. Don't want, don't buy. STFU.

But yeah, the vehicles are garbage. And since so many people bawled about how much faster they were, they nerfed the only thing that made the vehicles useful. Overall, because of THIS it has been a waste of time. Take this dog out back and shoot him for his own good, fellas.

Would you also like to see if they do the next 6 months nothing than Wallcrawling Devices

    2. Yes I did reply. I replied to post #14 in post #17.

    3. I have not had proper data to respond to post #20, yet. There are certain things that you can do prior to going into "become mode", and even things where you can toggle out of become mode, use Revitalize, then go back into become mode. You need to show a little more patience and yeah, I'm pissed when you attack my character simply because you're impatient and when you twisted my words to begin with.

LOL! Well if you've already made up your mind you don't need me to show ways to get more out of your vehicles, move along and ignore me then. And you want me to do you a favor so you can just throw it in my face? Did I ever claim vehicles were super awesome? No, I said it's headed that way. I indicated there are ways to make vehicles not as terrible as Keiko keeps saying, IF you rank them up. And I stressed legitimate concern of my own that if people keep saying things along the lines of "vehicles are weak, the need a buff" (as several people who have them are doing as of late to some degree), then Cryptic will start buffing and buffing until you get a pretty nasty powercreep effect going on. It's happened before in other games. It's happened in other Perfect World titles in fact (not vehicles, but needing to pay to get your stuff).

Like I told JonSills in another thread where him and I argued about vehicles, what I want is options/choices and balance.
    • I don't want vehicles to be more powerful than superheroes, replacing superpowers for what's most effective.
    • I don't want powers in the game you get via lockboxes, instead of something you can get from the powerhouse (all powers should be available in the powerhouse).
    • I want people to be able to have fun with their vehicles.
    • I want people to feel they're getting their money's worth, or get refunded Zen as in-game credit for a vehicle (and Perfect World HAS been doing this, to my pleasant surprise)

Finally remember, vehicles are not applicable in instances, but they are ideal for open world exploration. This doesn't work for all character themes, but it does for some and those people should be able to enjoy them (but not at the expense of others, make sense?). Additionally, the prohibitive nature of means to acquire them for free players currently means they are luxury items, more akin to a luxury yacht that not everyone can afford. This should be common sense by now for most players that are up-to-speed with current events.

Personally, I have no real interest in vehicles either way. I never intended to buy one, but I happened to get one from a lockbox anyway. I decided to use it for 2 reasons, first, it might be fun, and second, I saw a complete lack of solid info about what these things could do so I thought I could throw some test builds together and maybe put a guide together or something, help out some players who don't have my resources.

Spent much of the past week farming, buying and fusing then testing weapons and mods in various combinations and concluded that there are no useful builds. At all. Basically, a vehicle with high rank mods is roughly equivalant to a character with no passive, no form and no superstats or spec trees, just running around with their basic powers plus some gear bonuses. Not really useful for anything, more importantly, not fun, thats really the key thing, I don't give a fig about power levels or any of that, if it aint fun theres no point.

And since I'm posting in this thread again, I'd like to apologise to Agentnx5 for calling him a troll and a liar. Sorry, I got a bit carried away  (although you did say some things that just aren't true, vehicles outhealing iniquity, lol )

    I think Cryptic's in a bind.

The CEO, Jack Emmert, is on record as saying new content would never be gated for for subs and LTs, the traditional way for an MMO to milk some $$$ out of people who already pay to play.

That leaves things like costumes, emotes, powers / frameworks, buffs and consumables for monetization.

    Well ...

I don't know about you guys, but I haven't spent a (virtual) dime of my stipend. I well and truly don't care what my toons look like beyond hitting "random" until I get something that doesn't make me gag. Emotes are too "RP-y" for my tastes. Powers? Unless we're into P2W territory, it really just seems like a "seen it before, only this time with a new animation" gimmick to me. And buying buffs and consumables? Meh.

Note: people have misinterpreted this statement before as my dissing my fellow gamers or advocating for pay 2 win. I'm not. P2W is toxic, I don't want it -- but in lieu of anything else worthwhile to buy ... And, as for customization? I'm well and truly glad we can change how our characters look; it adds some glam to the game. But it's a system, much in the same way that marketeering, PvP, and crafting are systems, that doesn't appeal to me. And that's cool -- I don't expect everything in a game to appeal to me.

And so we come up to gambling and vehicles.

I believe vehicles were hyped as a whole new area of gameplay. With customization. Unique content (the wheeze here is that you pay for the vehicle, not the content). That piques my interest. Something NEW to do in CO?

But ... gambling? The odds are good that, even if I wiped out every drop of stipend, I wouldn't get a vehicle. That's sketchy. That makes me roll my eyes.

And if I had to move on to using real money?

That amps up the ick factor considerably. If I pay money, I want the object of my desire, not a chance for it.

But, as I said, Cryptic's in a bind. The company's had a rough time making money off CO. It's on record that new content is free for subs. Consumables and customization don't appeal to everyone. And they don't have the devs (edit: and possibly the talent, at least on CO) to make something really, truly great that would make everyone line up for the privilege of giving them money (think Apple). So, instead, the devs made something OK (vehicles) and gave us a tantalizing chance to get them for cheap (but, realistically, for dear).

I get it, I really do.

I just don't want to buy into that kind of system. And it lowers my admittedly not particularly great opinion of Cryptic just a little bit more.

Personal opinion will always vary about any new content, as people look at it from what they, personally, get from that content. If it doesn't serve them, then it will be seen as a waste of time and effort that could have been spent tending their own needs.

Vehicles are seen as underpowered by those who expected them to overpower characters without them, or grant bonuses above that which their characters would have without them. They are seen as a waste of time by those who have no interest in vehicles due to character concept or just a general satisfaction of the game before they were introduced. They are seen as just right by those who don't want to see vehicles replace a character's own abilities or become the new 'I win' button in the game, while others think they could be improved to provide more personalization.

Ultimately, the worth of a vehicle will depend greatly on your own reasons for looking into them. They will disappoint the power gamers or those who want the ability to customize the vehicles appearance, while those who think having a combat vehicle would conflict with their concept of their character will probably be better off not buying them.

However, those who have characters with backgrounds that support fighting vehicles and who don't expect them to overshadow their characters will find they do offer an additional aspect to their gameplay they would have found lacking. My character is a military vet who uses military equipment, and the vehicle I have allows him to have flight capability without having to sacrifice the teleport ability that is part of his character background. For me, a vehicle is worth purchasing. Also, I find the vehicle provides better protection than normal, but that is a personal aspect that may not be the case for others.

So, if it fits your character and offers something additional to your gameplay, I think they can be worth it. If you are only looking at them to add combat power or already have the abilities they offer, then I'd say they are not. Note also there are more coming later, so you may also reserve judgement until more are available.

    My two cents.

    Hideouts
    Adventure Packs
    Comic Series
    Nemesis System
    Rampage Alerts
    and Now Vehicles(well soon enough)

All things that had alot of potential to bring something great to the game and were either introduced poorly or just flat out dropped for no (good) reason.

This is where vehicles will be by Febuary of next year. Forgotten about and on to the next gimmick to be forgotten about.
