I grew up on one of the better reservations. We had paved roads, clean water, modern medical facilities, even proper schools. While people outside the reservation would learn the possibly fictional account of the settlers who supposedly shared a feast with an unnamed tribe, we were being taught about things like the Mystic River Massacre that happened around the same time.
Thanksgiving is a holiday predicated on the forceful and violent appropriation of lands and resources of the native tribes. So in honor of all those whose land was taken from them and poorly taken care of, Happy You're Welcome Day.

Hey! It's like Christmas!! A jolly holiday based in one of the most brutal religions, the abrahamic religions! >

I grant you that the origins of the holiday are steeped in blood. What I don't understand is the insistence that choosing to be thankful for the gifts you have received should make you feel guilty. I'm not saying "get over it"- i have enough native American ancestors that that would be extremely hypocritical- but I am saying: spend some time reflecting on what you have been given and try to be thankful for that.
OMG a grumpy kitty lording over a turkey! Its almost like he's saying "I'm gonna devour this entire bird and NONE of you can have any of it! NONE!!!"

I think s/he's thinking, "Ah, all is well with the world. Here before me is the turkey, a proper prey beast for the mighty house cat hunter. Hey, you, get away from mah bird!"
To all on this holiday and every other day, may the wind be ever at your back.

The origins of the holiday are quite peaceful. The surviving pilgrims who celebrated with Tisquantum and the Wampanoag at the first Thanksgiving enjoyed 50 years of peaceful cooperation and coexistence with them.
However, that which came before and after is certainly worthy of condemnation.
