Harmon Labs - To Speed or Not To Speed

I've noticed that some folks want to speed through Harmon Labs, not engaging any mobs that aren't in the way, getting to Warlord as quickly as possible.

I like to clean out the whole place, as I like the experimental power armor drops. I give them to my low-level toons and it really helps their damage output.

So, why do people race through the Labs? Are the rewards for simply completing the mission really that good?

Well from what i know you can skip the hostage saving as it isn't required, main purpose of these "speed" runs are to get Warlord costumes.

Well but someone said by saving all hostages have better chance for costume drop.

It's a consensus thing. Some will speed run in a premade group. If you are not in a full premade, the least you can do is alert the PUGs with a simple message in chat.

If I'm speed running, I make it a point to throw heals at my PUGs.

i speed through and then patiently wait for the team.
i have no desire to watch level 6s die and agro the entire room
i do clear the entire hall on the way

There are no "right way" but I like to do speed run personally.
But after I got everything I can get from Warlord (includes some Cores), I'll never Q again for Harmon Labs again just to say "Yes, UNTIL !!". :3

    I did this ENOUGH.

This - it's too painful an experience for a typical pug. IF I do q for it, I anticipate having to carry the entire team through it -

When its that random level 6 that spent the alert afk or dying most of the time getting the reward for all that effort, it really makes for an "unpleasant" experience.

People speed run because it's more fun than getting pingponged all over the place. To my knowledge there is zero point to killing the trash except wasting our time, you've got better odds of picking winning lotto numbers than of getting costume drops from the trash.

The trash doesn't drop anything but the temporary power devices, from what I recall. Which are alright (the FAW device is pretty rocking, in fairness). There's no need to rescue any of the scientists aside from the one at the end...so I can certainly see the rush. I try to stick to the walls and avoid some of the extraneous trash.

Of course, there's always someone that runs into the middle of the room, and gets pingponged through 2 or 3 groups, pulling huge packs of enemies.

I do these types of alert usually with SG members or with a friend, PUG's are too irritating for me, like running away from the healer or agroing Black Diamond(also my behemoth chars name >_>) and BlueJay etc from above with a misfired blast or something.

I do hate Harmon Labs through, the damage of the mobs compared to players nerfing is irritating and their knocks are so powerful! and usually ignore KB resistance.

Personally I like to take my time through these things, clearing out each room before continuing. I have been on attempted speed runs and I say attempted because some lvl 6 runs in and basically paints a target on themselves and agro's every living henchman.

Funnelling them helps in some situations but even then it can be overwhelming.

As a general rule, I only like Speed Runs if they are done by organised and level headed people.

This difference of opinion is why I gave up on trying this Alert. Like Smacky, I like to clear out all the goons and pick up the prototype equipment, but if I try to do that while everyone else insists on a speed run then I'm toast. For that matter, sometimes I can't even get through the first large room in the basement if the group has decided they're not necessary.

Really, these extra mobs need to be either removed or made to be part of the Mission requirement.
