Champions Online: Reloaded on Friday will introduce thirteen vehicles, some of which you?ll recognize as updated Hawkwings and some of which are brand-new.

With that many vehicle chasses, there are several different ways to get these vehicles, and even more ways to get the upgrades you?ll slot into them, including the new Hovertank Arsenal lock box.

Can you buy 'top tier' Vehicles DIRECTLY via C-Store points or not, Trailturtle? 'top-tier' meaning 4 weapons and 4 mod slots?

Right now, it looks like no.

And if that's the truth, shame on you.

Somebob, it's pretty clear - the top-tier vehicles are in a box. There are, however, several other vehicles available in the Store, or via Drifter Salvage.

Which leads to my question, TT - will the grab bags mentioned be available in the world via a daily mission, as has been done before, at least for a week or two? I really don't want to have to buy all my Drifter Salvage...

From the article: Currently, there are three sources for your vehicle chasses: direct through the C-Store, through the Drifter Salvage exchange, and through the Hover Tank Arsenal lockbox.

So the Tako lockbox is going away, and we'll have to buy keys (for 100 or 900 Zen for 1 or 10) to open the new ones and get a chance to get the loot within.

Also, Drifter Salvage is a joke. On PTS, the 'top tier' tank was for sale for 200 Salvage. Or about $80.

And from the very next paragraph:

In the C-Store, you can purchase the following vehicles directly:
    *Hawkwing Heavy Fighter Mark 2
    *Hawkwing Command Ship Mark 2
    *Hawkwing Interceptor Mark 2
    *Stealth Hawkwing
    *Hover Tank Tiger Shark
    *Hover Tank Flint Fire

You can win the following vehicles from the Hover Tank Arsenal lockbox:
    *Hover Tank Ridgeback
    *Hover Tank Manta
    *Hover Tank Avalanche (top-tier)

You can also exchange Drifter Salvage, won through grab bags and the Hover Tank Arsenal lock box, for the following vehicles:
    *Hawkwing Razor Assault Ship
    *Hover Tank Moray
    *Hover Tank Boulder
    *Hover Tank Desert Fox (top-tier)

So like I said, the top-tier vehicles are locked away behind a box (or a bag), but there will be vehicles available for direct purchase if you don't insist on top-tier. (And I don't, but I really want a grav bike.)

Based on PTS, you'd be a fool to not get the top-tier one. Non top tier vehicles have 2 weapon slots (compared to 4) and 2 or 3 mod slots (again compared to 4). Do you want to spend $15 to get a gimped vehicle? I know I wouldn't.

OK, make top tier flat out purchasable from the C-Store...

And get accused of Pay 2 Win...

This... I dont want to buy a vehicle for a skin I want... I want to color the vehicle myself.

Edit: Hey!! at least they made it easy for me, when it comes to spend my stipend. I know EXACTLY what I wont buy... so that leaves moar money for costumes and TPs

Pretty much, yeah. Just like when they listened to folks who didn't want these to just be a travel power, only to be excoriated for not making these just a travel power.

I don't mind a "gimped" vehicle, because I don't need to measure epeens with anyone. If the vehicle satisfies me for use with my toon, that's all I care about. (As a side note, I'll mostly use them for travel anyway, because that's why my characters all have superpowers. The ones that don't fly will need a Vehicle for the new mission, though...)

The vehicles are FAR from P2W, especially now that their range has been reduced to 120ft (so the AI actually fights back). Also keep in mind that the weapons are now capped at R3 (which aren't available yet according to the post). We were testing R9 weapons.

I'm with you on this although I will probably wait an see because I want the hover bike it will fit my toons I'm thinking of getting vehicles for much better.

I still have a problem with superheroes in tanks but thats is just a personal taste thing. Heroes smash tanks up not drive them and flying tanks are just a step too far.

The grab bags referred to there are the old grab bags, which had Salvage as prizes. To my knowledge, right now there is no Salvage quest.

So, being a soldier, driving a tank colored with bright orange and red is good camouflage to Canada?
I would need to buy urban, snow, desert, jungle camo colored tanks for all the maps we have and maybe bluish one for the Lemuria. I need to have same budget on military hardware as UNTIL got....
OK. I'm gonna stop beating my head to the wall. We gots what we gots. Well, i won't.

Doesn't matter. Forum logic dictates that, since top tier vehicles are better than lower tier vehicles, it would be P2W to sell them, regardless of how "powerful" they actually are...

So much time and effort has been spent on these vehicles, and only a small portion of the playerbase will actually use them.

The only new content is the carrier defense mission - all the rest are become devices that take mods.

Where are the new open world missions? Where are the lair reviews? Where are the new non-alert mission arcs that, y'know, actually tell a story?

So are the hovertank chests as well as the tako ones or replacing them?

If replacing what about cosmic keys people still have?
(on another post seems cosmic keys used for the new boxes - correct me if im wrong, but still need to know if these replace or are in addition to takos)

If in addition we get 2 seperate waste of space drops cluttering the game making us wade through to get to the normal loot??

I think someone said somewhere that Tako Bags are replaced with Tank Bags. Makes me wonder when the Bike Bags come, will the Tank Bags be replaced by them. So Tanks Bags are kind of, get 'em while you can?

More than likely, yes. And this is how STO worked as well.

Also, keep in mind that the Cosmic Keys open every kind of bag. STO also does the same thing. So you don't need to buy a different type of key to open the new bags.

Wow! I can get my vehicle by paying money (via zen), by paying money (via buying keys to unlock lockboxes and collecting the salvage) or by paying money (via keys to open boxes, and actually winning a vehicle). Being a "monthly paying members", 'money for stuff' is not my gripe. It's paying for the lack of "things to do" with all these new shineys I could hypothetically pay for. :frown:

Oh well. I, for one, do not welcome our new lockbox overlords. They're more like "absentee landlords" than actual "overlords", anyway. They just want us to pay our bills on time, and seem content to throw odds & ends at us while we beg for more urgently needed repairs to the vital systems in our residence. Grab a plunger, somebody, and get to work.

P.S. The only "bright spot" that a confirmed cynic can see about this bag-switch is that at least one doesn't need new key-types to unlock new boxes... Yet. They do that in a MMOHatSimulatorGame I'm slightly familiar with because of friends who play it.

Edit: Yes, I realized the "buying with Zen" option of my three listed above is now sometimes free thanks to the Q-exchange, but time is a currency of its own as far as I'm concerned.:)

Well the thing is if they replace tako chests, then theres no longer any way to get legion gear, thats something we need to know before the patch (in 5 hours time) that we should have been told about.

If there is never to be another Drifter mission, then why even mention that salvage can be obtained from grab bags??? :frown:

I just had a thought grav bikes seem to be one of the most wanted vehicles but their release has been held back. So if you want to get a vehicle for the new mission or you just want latest shiny you pay now.

If you then want to get your grav bike you pay again at a later date great marketing strategy. I may be cynical but it is this sort of thing I personally find contrived and distasteful. I know they have to make money but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    So, heads up:

It is CONFIRMED that the only way to get the 'best' vehicles is to open the new bag or pay an ABSOLUTELY ABSURD 200 Drifter Salvage ($80 to buy all the salvage you need) to buy one outright.

Thanks, Cryptic. I WANT to throw money at you for a 'good' one, but if I did that I'd buy a gimped ship with only 2 weapon slots and 2 or 3 mod slots.

No comment on this update. I will wait the next update (without any conviction anymore).

When will Swtor becomes F2p, that i can pay for new content to do, and know what i pay for with their next map in developpement ? Perhaps give new try to dcuo too, i don't like a lot this game but they have new lairs, bgs, very regularly, even complete hideout soon, and goldplayers have lockbox keys with their sub there.

Why am I still paying $15 a month for this game? (Besides the obvious answer that I'm a chump). I get the 'privelige' of paying for a gimpy vehicle or blowing up to $80 (at least) for the salvage needed to buy a top tier vehicle.

This game constantly disappoints and this is just another in the long line of recent disappointments.

Disappointed, this could have been huge and really revitalized the game if you hadn't locked the good things behind lockboxes :/ If you want money, you're doing it right. If you want longevity, you're doing it wrong. But what do I know? I hope you guys can reach STO levels of profit... but so far you're only making some of us vets distant...

Actually if they want money they're still doing it wrong. A key aspect of making money as well as adding longevity is quality. Yes you can still toss little filler items in there when you want, but if that's all you're adding it's not going to work well, as the forums are currently saying with the recent paths the game is taking. what they SHOULD be focused on is customer satisfaction. Adding things that are actually worth the money, but keeping prices lower. Gold players should be getting more for free since they're still paying monthly or have tossed huge amounts of cash for the life time. Silvers should pay for 80% of things, with maybe 20-30% reduced pricing. Spend more time developing something fully (hideouts and vehicles seem like they were rushed to live just for a quick buck, but lack any real substance and end up getting forgotten in about two months. Flesh them out better before introducing them.

Add more things that people want. The forums are a great source of inspiration for new content. Content people are WILLING to spend more money on. Plant powers, water powers, better travel powers. Upgrade existing powers for free, but the all new ones charge for. Expand existing zones as well as occasionally add new ones. People would gladly pay for mission packs if the price was worth what they got. Not just a few missions in a mission only zone, but make it a new zone all together with new missions, costumes and areas to explore. How many people want Multifaria as a Zone? A place where they can be villains instead of heroes? A new Zone where they can explore just how different a mirror universe can really be?

The more effort they put into making things worth the money they're charging the more people will buy. Adding new things to the game will give them more reason to keep playing in the long run. It defeats the purpose of being a free to play game when the new update is only something you can do by paying for it.
