Yes its still content we may hate then but its still extra stuff. Content is actual things put into the game for good or for bad.

We cant say CO hasnt been getting content it has just not the content we've been wanting.

Are we really going to have to start saying "new mission content" so we can avoid the ridiculous "grab bags/lockboxes ARE content" debates?

These stupid gamble bags/boxes aren't new and haven't been new since the first one was released last year. Changing the name, icon and highly desirable item(s) on their drop table every few months doesn't qualify as content updates.

I'm just sad that this is where Dev efforts go.
I don't have a vehicle now, I don't want one, and I won't play any missions that require vehicles. It's not why I play a superhero game.

Yup the question should have been when do we get mission content?

But my point is as far as PWE games go Champions gets a lot of love...I kid you not the others get like one update a year >_>

Yep, and this is why I hold little hope for new, playable content (as opposed to content that you play with).

Content in the mmo context has ALWAYS meant mission content, or in other words things to do. Other things like costumes, powers, devices etc ARE additions to the game but NOT content.

Sorry, Nepht. It's not. When it comes to MMOs, content has a specific meaning. Content is what you're doing when playing the game. The vehicles, becomes, and powers are what you're using to do that content.

Ahh but you see content to us might be more mishes to do which I want as much as the next person, but to our Chinese overlords its lockboxes and sparkle ponehs or in our case sparkle tanks @__@" .

Its sad to say but we expect to much from PWE.

If that's the case, that's a scary sign of things to come.

Doesn't matter. I highly doubt they're the ones looking at these forums. People like TrailTurtle are. TT knows what's meant when we say we want more content. So do the devs. This renders the arguement that lockboxes are content invalid when everyone involved in the discussion knows what's meant.

I just think its futile screaming for more proper content we've been at it for ages and our crys for the tiniest of new zones fall on deaf ears . It isnt how PWE does things were not dealing with Cryptic anymore :/

Maybe so but, being deliberately contrary by pointing at the lockboxes and saying we have content when you already know that's not what the people posting mean helps how?

Content is more stuff , these vehicles are more stuff so by definition they be content.

No, more stuff is merely more stuff. Things. Items.

CONTENT is stuff TO DO. Missions. Places to explore. People to meet (and beat up).

Unless you are somehow implying that a player can "do" a vehicle? Without actual content, vehicles might as well simply be travel powers.

Now, the UNTIL carrier defense technically IS real content. But it's only one bit of new content in the context of a whole world of possibilities which Cryptic has yet to explore. How about we get some new content that isn't vehicle-centric?

I think the problem with CO is that the game's creators and owners have NEVER made a real commitment to the creation of new content post-release. Not Cryptic, not Atari, and certainly not PerfectWorld.

Personally, I would love it if the creators and publishers of MMOs would publicly promise to spend at least as much money on the release of new content within the first five years of operation as was spent on the initial game's development, and to spend the equivalent amount for the next ten years after that. If it cost, say, $50 million to develop CO in the first place, then they ought to put another $10 million into it each year for the first five years, and another $5 million/year for the next ten. And this is strictly for the development of actual playable content (new missions, new zones, new villains to fight), accounted for completely separately from any additional game features, bug-fixing, server hardware, maintenance, etc.

    ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH YA BAMSTARDS!!! \o/

Yew are all missing my point -.-

PWE thinks lockboxes, alerts and vehicles are content and to be pedantic thats technically true but also a BS thing to do.

Us as players think new content is new zones a lot moar SERIOUS MISHES that aint alerts.

Trying to get PWE to understand that boxes , cars and alerts arnt real content is like trying to dig a moat with a spoon with a hole in the middle.

It took PWI players YEARS of narking before our Chinese overlords gave them a new zone ( have to admit that Decent expansion was rather big ). So if you start WE WANTS A ZONE NOWS thread and keep it running you might get a new zone say in 3 or 4 years time.

I started to write this at the Keys. Cryptic how profitable have these been for you all? thread, but I figured it would find a better place here, since it sort of deviated from the original discussion on the profitability of lockboxes and delved into some of the stuff being discussed here, so I'm posting the full thing here instead...

    Update:
Starting on Friday, you?ll be able to get the Hovertank Arsenal lockbox as an additional piece of loot from enemies, which you can unlock with a Cosmic Key of Power from the C-Store, available for 100 ZEN or 900 ZEN for ten keys.

Each Arsenal opened will include at least 2 Drifter Salvage, which can be exchanged for vehicle chasses and more. This lock box will be in addition to any other loot you could have gotten, it will not replace the chance for any other loot. This also means that the Takofanes? Cache lock box will no longer be available.

Prizes available from the Hover Tank Arsenal:
    *75x one Vehicle MOD (Rank 1) + 1 resource/XP boost/Skill boost
    *50x one Vehicle MOD (Rank 2) + 1 resource/XP boost/Skill boost
    *25x one Vehicle MOD (Rank 3) + 1 resource/XP boost/Skill boost
    *10x one Vehicle MOD (Rank 4) + 1 resource/XP boost/Skill boost
    *1 Vehicle Weapon Mod (Mark 1) + Vehicle MODs (10x Rank 4 or 5x Rank 5)
*1 Hover Tank Ridgeback with Heavy Cannon + Vehicle MODs (10x Rank 4 or 5x Rank 5)
*1 Hover Tank Manta with Plasma Beam + Vehicle MODs (10x Rank 4 or 5x Rank 5)
*1 Hover Tank Avalanche with Heavy Cannon and Incendiary Round + 5x one Vehicle MOD (Rank 5)

Seeing as they amended their patch just to include this, I'm going to go with that the keys are indeed VERY profitable. Agree / Disagree?

I agreed before you even started this thread. Hell, I would have agreed before they were even implemeted in this game that they would be. However, I DON'T agree with that business model or with the current direction of the game, and nothing Cryptic has done lately (either in terms of game development or their business practices) has been able to draw me in.

I payed $300 roughly 1.5 years ago for a LTS this game and I have barely even logged for half that time. And a considerable amount of the time that I was logged this year was at the PTS before the On Alert update. The rest of the time I have found myself more and more drawn towards other games to meet my content needs as I waited around for something to draw me back here.

Last time I was on for any considerable amount of time was around the Aniversary event, when I took a break from TSW (best story-based MMO this year) spent almost a month here taking advantage of the double XP to lv some old toons that had not reached 40 yet. Once I was done with that I made a new toon for old time's sake (using a Treant costume concept I wanted to try), started to plow through the same old leveling paths with my new toon, and in less than a week I was itching to get back to TSW because I was tired of the same old thing.

I've been waiting for this game to turn around but every time it seems to slip father away from something I would like to play, and specially from something I would like to spend my money on. I have stuck around all this time because of the visual customization, but playing dress up alone can only get you so far and that's not even the focus of this game anymore. Now the focus is the next cash grab and the next half-finished tack-on feature that the devs set their minds to implement so that they later can forget and never touch again once they're on to the next new (equally half-finished, tack-on, and likely non-playable or shallow as an Alert if there is any type of gameplay involved) "content" they can think.

Now I have to pay extra for vehicles and gamble to gear them up? And the only non-vehicle content we get is repeatable tank-n-spank fights in a square box (i.e. Alerts)? Sorry, but not interested. I think Cryptic/PW has seen the last of my money (for this or ANY of their other current or future games). This game isn't for me anymore, or for those of us that have been around long enough to bore ourselves to tears with the current content. Its not made for the players that they have, its made to draw the players that they don't have.

Lately I've been getting an itch to take a break from TSW again (though, I'll be back for more story-driven and investigative content), but vehicles alone (even if I didn't have to pay extra to get them and gamble to gear them up) are not enough to make me plow through the same old one dimensional content all over again--and even less considering that the draw for this game for me has always been about character customization, not vehicles.

I'd rather give (and already did, earlier this week) my money to Arena.Net instead. And unlike my considerably more expensive investment in this game's LTS, that is an investment that I won't soon regred, and it only cost me $48.99 (I found a sale in a UK site that accepted paypal ). I could have come back here, but THIS is what I've been doing instead...

I gotta say here, vehicles are definitely not content, nor at the stakes now will they draw more people in, cryptic, why couldn't we have gotten something like a 1000 zen expansion DLC pack, that would have probably did better than vehicles, more quality content that doesn't cost that much, the vehicles on the other hand, are overpriced become devices with mods, the thing here is that I think they could have did an expansion pack instead of vehicles, to me it seems as though they've poured all resources into them in hopes that vehicles would bring in a ton of money, at an overpriced rate, I don't think they will, if we had an expansion pack or something along the lines of it at say...1000 or less zen, then a huge portion of the playerbase would have probably paid for that, we would have easily preferred quality content over vehicles.
