I'm pretty sure the tako boxes are going to be replaced with ones that include vehicles soonish. The vehicle tutorial on PTS mentions that there's a chance to get a vehicle from dropboxes.
You know what's really amazing about these boxes, Cyn?
Nobody's making you open them.
Heck, nobody even makes you pick them up - I only do it because I hate seeing a room littered with little ! markers after I'm done beating up the villains. I haven't opened one yet, and I don't feel the loss. Managed to sell a few of them on the AH before everyone realized how common they had become, and the supply of sucke- ah, that is, customers dried up. Now they just sit there, taking up exactly one slot in my bag.
It's not like the lockboxes in STO, at least, where they only stack to 10, and every time someone anywhere in the zone gets the top prize your screen gets spammed with a message. These can be ignored, sequestered, eventually even discarded if you like. No big deal.
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
I'm with the OP on this. I defeat the bad guys and there are 5 white asterisks. I don't know until I look at each one which of them are these Takos. If the asterisks were at least color coded so that I knew which were gear/mods and which were other things it would be a bit more bearable, but when almost half of what is opened is stuff I have no interest in it is really off-putting. This is definitely the part of the game I like the least. At least grinding after Questionite gives me something in the end that I definitely want. I wish these things would just go away.
The Tako Caches are separate drops from regular loot. Yes, it is annoying that it appears you got a bunch of good stuff, only to find that like 90% are these boxes, but rest assured that they aren't cutting into your normal gear drops. Also keep in mind that they stack to 999, so while they do take up an inventory spot, it's only a single one and unlikely that you'll even fill that one stack...

But they do, THATS the biggest complaint. You have to constantly pick the annoying things up to be able to get at the normal loot! If they auto went to inventory people wouldnt mind much if at all.

I do not play or even care to play STO. I play CO. There is no point in comparing.
"At least I don't beat you as bad as I do your sibling".
And yes you do have to pick some up if there are multiple drops from one mob or they all die on the same spot.
Agreed. It's a shame that the Halloween event has turned into such a mockery centered around vendor trash of the worst sort. What's the real thing that irritates me, is we have nothing to show for it: No Vlad centered Alert content, and a barely tweaked version of the Blood Moon event.

See how this terribly flawed logic can be applied to just about anything?
Aside from that, we've seen how PWE has a tendency of taking a mile any time they're given an inch. We accept these lockboxes, we'll have ones as bad if not worse than STO's in 6 months. We'd be there already if we didn't put up such a fuss over Grab Bags. People need to align their efforts (and wallets when the time comes) to get us back on track with a production = profit based model.
...I just recently realized something really disturbing. We're all eating Sodapop3's "humble pie."
This is only a sound argument if we could see actual drop names and then choosing to avoid them entirely, without having to interact with the drop first to see what it contains. All we get is just a glowing exclamation mark.
On the other hand I think the OP is just overreacting. I'm not fan of lockboxes myself but as mentioned they take up only 1 inventory space and stacks up to a ridiculous amount. Also, I'm assuming that most people including the OP would just click/press on "Take Everything" and don't actually cherry-pick their drops (it gets tedious doing it everytime in the middle of missions/combat) while selling whatever trash they obtained at a later time. In the case of lockboxes being un-sellable, I don't know, just throw them away or dump them in your bank space I guess.
14 Levels, five hours of play time, zero drops for my Ice archtype, I had to get
everything I needed from supergroup stash, even the mission rewards were trash.
Strength, Presence, Dexterity out the wazoo, yeah my super stats are Ego, End, Con, thanks Cryptic.
Star Knight started off in the Tutorial at lvl 1, because I wanted to make sure my build concept was viable. (Based around Laser Sword; I had to add Invulnerable to make it survivable, but I could justify that as being an alien gadget.) I never got around to throwing out any of my Takoboxes. Just clicked lvl 17, and collected a grand total of 46 boxes.
Hardly "filling my bags"...
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"
We have had requests for a, "pick up all," option since game launch. I think that such, along with classifying drop boxes as "white" items so that they can be figured into need/greed selections in instances, would significantly reduce the negative impact of the drop boxes on those most opposed to them while preserving their function.
So, one hour at lvl 29/30, you got 38 boxes, or just over 3.8% of one slot-full of boxes.
Hardly comes out to "having to empty out [your] bags every four seconds"...

Your taking four seconds literally?
38 boxes in an hour is a tako box every minute and a half.
Thats one character, one hour, one player.
There were at least 600 people online while I did that run.
Lets say just 100 of them are as awesome as me, thats 3,800 tako boxes an hour.
Trash.
They should let us dump them with physics simulation and build a huge pyramid
until the lag of them all shuts the game down. Maybe thats why I can't connect.

The original plaint, the one I referred to as "hyperbole", was someone claiming that it wasn't even worth logging into CO, because he was going to have to empty his bags of Takoboxes "every four seconds". Apparently, the concept offends him so much that carrying a single Takobox in his bag is too much to tolerate.
My point was that I have yet, in all the time since Takoboxes came into play, filled so much as a single slot with them. I don't open the damned things, I just pick them up because I hate seeing little silver !s all over the place.

They need to separate Tako boxes from normal drops and create a second icon (like they did in STO, an actual box for the lockboxes and a football shaped container for normal drops)... that way it comes up as "Take Items - Press Z" and "Take Cache - Press Z" on separate bars instead of just the " ! " which could be either loot or a box, or sometimes both. That way, you can just leave the boxes in the street or the mission if you don't want them. Of course, if they did that then Millennium City will look like the Doctor Who episode "The Power Of Three"... I guess The Slow Invasion has really begun.

takofanes cache and drifter halloween store, despite the names are permenent fixtures, not part of any event.

45 Tako boxes and I even left some behind.
Loot table is a bit broken.

No means no, not twice, once.
Of course I collected and kept over 100 in the last 24 hours, whats that say about me?
